...past year I have had many experiences contributed to my growth as an aspiring dentist, including volunteering in a dental office in Turkey, working as a Moh’s technician, and earning a Master’s degree. While I was visiting Turkey, I was given the opportunity to meet many war refugees, and I learned about their stories while volunteering at “Disperisi” dental office. When I returned to the states, UCSF ASDA predental chair requested that I write about my experiences for UCSF pre-dental newsletters. I did, hoping to inspire others pre-dental students, not to give up in this competitive field of application. Through all the volunteering, I know manual dexterity is one of the major aspects of dentistry so I continued to develop my dexterity working as a MOH’s technician. When I am not in private offices, most of the week I am in UCSF dermatologist’s clinic. I worked behind the scene processing the tissues into histology slides. Working in a clinical setting, I felt that the job environment was similar to that of a dental environment. It was fast paced, stressful, detail oriented, demanding, and long hours, but it gave me an immediate satisfaction when I knew that I was helping a patient become free of skin cancer; the experience was both gratifying and heartwarming....
