Connelly, L.M., Miner-Williams, D., & Yoder, L.H., 2003. A qualitative study of charge nurse competencies. Medsurg Nursing, 12(5), 298-306.
Problem
The study was conducted to determine the competencies necessary to be a successful charge nurse (Connelly, Miner-Williams, & Yoder, 2003). There has been limited research conducted to provide information concerning the clinical role of the charge nurse. This study identifies the competencies necessary to be an effective charge nurse. The charge nurse serves as a valuable resource and leader for staff nurses in the absence of the unit manager. Effective charge nurses are needed to ensure optimal patient care in a time when patients are more critically ill and have shorter hospital stays.
Study Purpose
The purpose of this study is to have nurses identify their perceptions of competencies needed to be an effective charge nurse.
Research Question
"The research question was: "What do nurses at various levels perceive to be the competencies needed to effectively carry out the role of charge nurse in a military medical center?"(Connelly et al., 2003, p. 299). The study notes that military nurses do differ from civilian nurses however; the research team felt if would benefit both groups of nursing. This question is very broad and is appropriate for a qualitative study.

Study Design
The research design is the plan to outline how the study will be conducted. This study uses an exploratory qualitative research design. Exploratory research is often conducted because a problem has not been clearly defined or is unclear. This design is an appropriate method to study nurse's perceptions about charge nurse role competencies.
Subjects and Setting
This study uses a stratified, purposive sampling technique to select groups of informants. Purposive sampling is defined as "judgmental or selective sampling that involves the

The problem should not be broad, this is known as identifying the scope of the research. This will enable someone to familiarize him/herself to the topic of study and be able to create concrete ideas that will enable him do a good research. At this stage, the researcher is supposed to make important decisions on factors such as; the objectives, purpose of the research should be looked into. Also the researcher should make familiarize himself with the research problem by reading available literature on the problem (Scruggs & Mastropieri, 2006). The strategy on how the research will be conducted, this includes the methods to be used in data collection, tools to be used in data analysis. Hard Body Research Plan

...Eshon Howard Bus 339 Marketing Research Hard Body Research Plan Victor Olufeso Introduction The Hard Body Haulers is a local moving company that is not experiencing consistent growth in revenue. The company was founded in 2008 and is located in Cleveland, Ohio; one of the fastest shrinking cities in terms of population in the United States (http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/39/3916000.html, 2006). This along with the high number of home foreclosures in the area indicates that people in the area are relocating to other dwellings. In contrast, the level of people unemployed in the area indicate that people do not have the discretionary resources available to them to hire a mover and are instead utilizing do it yourself alternatives (http://www.cleveland.com/datacentral/index.ssf, 2011). Moving costs are expensive to consumers in a recessive economy. Much of the cost of that the moving companies incur are fixed costs in the form of equipment such as vehicle maintenance, packaging supplies, and lifting equipment. Secondly, there is a high cost insurance and licensing requirements that every moving company must have in order to be in compliance with the State of Ohio (http://www.puco.ohio.gov/puco/, 2011). The availability of the moving company can also increase the costs considering that most moving companies are busiest on the last ten days of the month (Cohn, 2010). Finally, moving can be a very time consuming process. So moving companies generally charge on an hourly...

Case Study Definition

...sciences, a case study (or case report) is a descriptive, exploratory or explanatory analysis of a person, group or event. An explanatory case study is used to explore causation in order to find underlying principles.[1][2] Case studies may be prospective (in which criteria are established and cases fitting the criteria are included as they become available) or retrospective (in which criteria are established for selecting cases from historical records for inclusion in the study). Thomas[3] offers the following definition of case study: "Case studies are analyses of persons, events, decisions, periods, projects, policies, institutions, or other systems that are studied holistically by one or more methods. The case that is the subject of the inquiry will be an instance of a class of phenomena that provides an analytical frame — an object — within which the study is conducted and which the case illuminates and explicates." Another suggestion is that case study should be defined as a research strategy, an empirical inquiry that investigates a phenomenon within its real-life context. Case study research can mean single and multiple case studies, can include quantitative evidence, relies on multiple sources of evidence, and benefits from the prior development of theoretical propositions. Case studies should not be confused with qualitative research and they can be based on any mix of quantitative and qualitative evidence. Single-subject research provides the statistical framework...

Critique Qualiative Research

...Professional Development: Critiquing Research The ability to critique (critically analyse and evaluate) research from both the qualitative and quantitative paradigms is an essential skill for occupational therapists. It is this skill, integrated with expertise gained from clinical practice that underpins evidence based practice (EBP). Although there are many definitions of EBP, Muir Gray (1997) defines it as “an approach to decision making in which the clinician uses the best evidence available, in consultation with the patient, to decide upon the option which suits the patient best." The purpose of this assignment is to enable the development of skills in critical analysis by critiquing a research article, which will contribute to further development of knowledge and skills in using EBP in clinical settings. A framework developed by Hek and Moule (2006) (see pages 3- ) has been used to guide the critique of a research article. A framework was used as Caldwell et al (2010 pg e1) argue that “ frameworks assist the novice healthcare practitioner with learning about approaches to research by giving consideration to aspects of the similarities and differences between the qualitative and quantitative research paradigms.” This framework was chosen as it is comprehensive and covers points/questions raised during the critiquing process, although it is important to remember that it is not a definitive checklist and other...

Employee satisfaction means different things to different people. For example, an employees’ motivation can range from basic pay to survive, to contributors that work for the satisfaction of contributing to the greater good (Thompson, (2004). Research indicates that satisfied employees are more likely to stay with his or her employers (Heathfield, 2012). According to this survey 82% of the employees at this hospital indicated overall satisfaction with his or her position with 35% reporting he or she was very satisfied. More surprising 62% said that the current job market did not play a role in his or her job satisfaction. Hospitals have a well-balanced diversity of people and levels of working...
