“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” When Steve Jobs said this he was already one of the world’s superpowers when it came to technology. The perpetual idealist was right. Technology has become part of our everyday life. Technology is a ticket to things that many people though they could never do. This reigns true especially for people with disabilities. For a person in our day and age, technology can open new horizons and provide a quality of life and experience that they once could never have dreamed of. However, technology, like any change, can create unforeseen problems and barriers. Technology today is in a grey area in many ways. iCloud, Google, and Windows, are the basis for what is to come. The ability to store all information and services from one centralized location over many devices is imperative for technology to work seamlessly. The fact of the matter is that as these various companies grew, they became more and more competitive. In the early days of Silicon Valley, the companies communicated more and were willing to provide support to one another. Today is a different story, Apple, in 2010 dropped its partnership with Google, the two companies parted ways and so did many of the services we loved. The world of technology has become world money, money, and more money. Technologies aren’t talking to each other and it is creating huge divides in people as they use these technologies.
Technologies have made it possible for deaf people to communicate, for blind people to be better able to see what is going on around them, in a figurative sense of course. The device that many of us hold in the palm of our hand, has helped shape the way that people can communicate with eachother. Now, a deaf person can simply have a conversation over text message or chat. This, is an amazing new idea but one I feel takes away a

Website Analysis

...Website Analysis Paper Website Analysis Paper I am going to evaluate the page layout, navigation, and performance based on my knowledge of www.worlds-worst-website.com, website that from my knowledge was designed to be a bad designed website. However I for this paper I will treat it as if it was a website to give facts or information about things on the internet or world. I well discuss what the website has as content, who was this content made for, the way it navigates, and how it can be improved. This website is really bad so my goal is to try to come up for a way this website is bearable. There are meaning things wrong with this website that make it bad. What is on www.worlds-worst-website.com? Well there are many links on this site that take you to different websites. Two of the links send you to same website just to two different pages of that site. One like seems to take you to a game that has something to do with Obama. One is just a video of cats. Then there are links on different dinosaurs and one link about bicycles. There is also a link that makes you take a quiz of a show. This sites content is well everywhere. There is no actual main content on this site. There is just random links to different sites and it makes the site more like a share link site if anything. I am also going to say that the websites it sends you to are better than this site; however I still do not think they are better or really look that impressive. The look really old and need to...

Healthy Eating

...Associate Level Material Appendix D Research Plan As part of your research plan, you must first draft a research question for your research paper that will guide the rest of your writing. A research question, which is more specific and focused than a general topic, is the question that your research paper will be answering. For example, if your general area of interest is social security, a possible research question might ask, “How can low-income families save more money if the United States had a reformed social security plan that includes personal retirement accounts?” As you develop a research question, keep in mind that you will need to research sources to support your topic. Do not pick a one-sided question that will limit your research. Instead, develop a research question that lends itself to further exploration and debate—a question you genuinely want to know the answer to. Try to pick a research question that is neither too broad (covering too much) or too narrow (covering too little). It should be broad enough to be discussed in a short research paper. Part 1: Complete the Research Plan |What is your general topic or area of interest? |Healthy eating | | | | | | ...

Fallacy we write papers and give talks mainly to impress others, gain recognition, and get promoted Good papers and talks are a fundamental part of research excellence Papers communicate ideas   Your goal: to infect the mind of your reader with your idea, like a virus Papers are far more durable than programs (think Mozart) The greatest ideas are (literally) worthless if you keep them to yourself Writing papers: model 1 Idea Do research W rite paper Writing papers: model 2 Idea Do research W rite paper Idea    W rite paper Do research Forces us to be clear, focused Crystallises what we don’t understand Opens the way to dialogue with others: reality check, critique, and collaboration Do not be intimidated Fallacy You need to have a fantastic idea before you can write a paper or give a talk. Talking While Driving

...DuPuis 10/3/14 Mrs. McKinnon English 112 Blood Bath A very recent study by AAA Foundation, using driving stimulators, says that talking on the phone while driving shows the same behavior as when you drink and drive. They also found out that when people talk on the phone and drive they are more likely to get into an accident than someone drinking and driving. The ad that was chosen for this paper is the ad against talking on the phone and driving. This ad had many points to consider when choosing it. They go against women in this ad, even though it based on only one women in the ad. They really depict why it is so bad to talk on the phone and drive and what it can do to you and your family if something bad were to occur because of it. They also show an amazing and eye catching effect of blood within the ad that makes you really focus on it when first seeing it. After reviewing the ad, it has both good and bad features to it. The woman, and only seen person in the ad, is an Indian lady in a kitchen that is reacting to the phone call she just received. The placement of the woman really shocked me. They put her in the kitchen, “where women are supposed to be”. This lit a spark showing how disrespectful ads can be against sex, race, and religion. They did not think about how the ad looked towards women. The saying had a lot to do with that disrespect. They used “he”, as if women cannot drive. They also made it seem as if it was her fault that she called him. Did he call her or...

Towels Vs Air Dryers

...Paper Towels vs Air Dryers Washing your hands has been important for many ages. But, as technology advances we want alternatives, first we used either a towel or paper towels. Then we came up with air dryers, that we thought they were revolutionary. But after many studies they have been found that paper towels are better than air dryers, because they remove more bacteria, air dryers waste energy and water, and finally air dryers spread bacteria. Most people are blinded by the new tech that they don’t realize these things. Over all after many studies have shown that paper towels remove a lot more bacteria than air dryers. Some people think that air dryers blow off most of the bacteria, but that is unbelievably untrue! “A 2012 study in the...

Personal Narrative: My Literacy Experience

...My literacy experience was shaped differently from my peers because of the fact that I wanted to be a teacher. When I had bad teachers all I could do was tell myself the things I did not want to do in my own classroom, and there were no good teachers to compare them to. Until I came to college, I did not have any teachers that influenced me in a positive way. By not having those positive factors in my life, my idea of literacy was very negative. When I was younger I would always get in trouble from my teachers because I was very social. My teachers would send notes home to my parents asking them to control my talkative habits because I was distracting to my peers during class. They would stick me away from my friends, which would not work because...

Self Diagnostic

...describe my health as a writer will be obese. I consider my health as a writer to be obese just for the simple fact that I’m so lazy when it comes to writing. Procrastination is like a permanent disease when I know I have a paper due. It will take me two to three days to start a paper. I have a hard time figuring out the words to express the base of my topic. To be honest it took me my whole weekend trying to get an idea on how I was going to write this essay. My brain will sit there in a daze trying to figure out what to write about then I get writers block. I’m a simple guy so when I have a paper that I need to get done I will try my best not to think or write using simple minded words because I stress so much on what my teacher or professor might think about my writing. Therefore that whole stress factor on writing makes me insecure on my writing abilities. I have never attended any writing groups. The idea of having individuals that I’m not comfortable with is the reason why I never been interested in writing groups. I even get nervous sometimes when my teachers or professors have my classmates read over my work for corrections. I know that it’s good to get feedback from others but I would prefer that feedback to be from the individual that assign the paper or essay. I grew up as a picture book...

My Approach to Writing

...My Approach to Writing By: Michael Czeczeli My goals for this course are fairly simple. My biggest goal for this course is to learn how to write a paper and get my point across without going overboard with run- on sentences and un-needed info. In my career field it’s going to be very important to be able to get my point across with minimal errors and mistakes. Another goal of mine is to learn to overall like writing. When I first started school I couldn’t stand writing papers or sending emails, but since that is the biggest line of communication today I need to learn to love it. I plan on using my writing in many different ways. One major way I plan on using writing is sending emails and letters to customers and employees at work. I hope to be a General Manager or at least Assistant General Manager of a major company or corporation after graduation. I plan to also use my writing throughout my college career. My college career is looking to be a long one since I plan to continue until I receive my masters’ degree in business. A really big use of my writing will be helping my daughters as they journey through school over the years to come. When I set out to write an academic paper I usually set a few goals for myself. The major goal for me is to insure that the reader gets all the information that is intended for them. I want to make sure that they fully understand where I’m coming from without drawing it out too much. Sometimes I have problems with run-on sentences...

The Importance Of The Fifth Amendment

...I think the Fifth Amendment is a really good one we have. One of the most important parts of it is that someone cannot be punished without the process of law. There are also some other parts that can benefit us all. Like the power to take personal property to benefit the public. In my paper I will give reason and evidence of why the Fifth Amendment is one of the best. First I will talk to you about not being punished without the process of law. This is a really good law, so someone who is innocent doesn’t get punished for something he didn’t do. This is not the case in other countries. There are a lot of countries that just punish people for no reason. People get killed and thrown in jail in other countries just because maybe someone in the government doesn’t like you. One case of this is in Russia when they had the Olympics there, something went wrong in the opening and the guy who directed it was found dead the next day. A lot of people think that was from the Russian government. That’s why that is a big part of our government. Third I will talk to you about not being forced to talk to the police when arrested. This is a good law because you can be forced to tell them what happened. This is good because you can talk to a lawyer first so you don’t accidentally say something that makes you look bad in the case. This...

My Writing Class Analysis

...took it because my sister told me that it’s a good class to take, especially because it is challenging. I was not so sure about that because I do not always like to be challenged in school. I am not the biggest fan of writing. Papers are not exactly my forte. I would much rather take a test over a unit than write a paper. I am open to writing a paper, but I think it takes me a lot more time to write a paper than it really should because I overthink things too easily, which could be both good or bad. I am excited for this course because I have been enjoying The Life of Pi, and I think I have a good idea on what to write for the paper. I am also very nervous for this course because I have heard that the grading is pretty hard. I heard that you have to be pretty perfect in your paper in order to get a good grade....

I know that we are probably going to have a lot of topics like video games, cartoons, or how our vacation went during a holiday or something like that cause all that can tie into writing a good story that people may or may not get. One of my fears besides bad handwriting is getting my papers corrected by someone else and maybe getting a bad grade on it, so I really hope to get used to that happening, cause we all know that there is going to be a lot of grading on papers in this class, so that’s something I want to overcome this quarter. Now about you, I hope that you will be a better teacher in English then some of my teachers that I have in high school and make this class more enjoyable to sit through and not fall asleep in miss most of the class until break. Throughout this quarter im going to be looking out for the exciting stuff that you said was going to happen because hopefully it will be really cool and make me actually want to write something for once cause ill be honest im a bit of a lazy guy that likes to play video games a lot. The Great Divorce

...Looking at “The Great Divorce” C.S. Lewis is a wonderful writer who manages to place the supernatural with the spiritual in a single book. In his book, The Great Divorce, Lewis again puts the divine in a setting that would be more appropriate to a fantasy or other work of extreme fiction. This paper shall provide a summary of this book, followed by a personal response to it. The reader will come away from this paper with the knowledge of both The Great Divorce as well as my personal feelings towards this book. The Great Divorce is at its most basic level the quest of a single person through both heaven and hell. The reader could easily make a comparison between this theme and the works of Dante, but in Lewis’ book the reader sees more humor and more realistic occurrences. For example, the narrator enters into the gate to heaven and hell when he steps aboard an ordinary city bus. The book begins with a sad person – the narrator – who is walking in a very evil city. The narrator looks around and sees that everyone in this city is suffering in some way. He then gets on the bus and finds that all the passengers are ghosts. However, as the bus comes close to heaven, these ghosts once more become people and the land becomes less evil. When the narrator steps from the bus he finds that the landscape is very real and because of this he is physically hurt. Yet the ghosts are allowed to pass through this land in order to reach a city that is apparently Heaven. When...

In fact, I have even started to write my own story for fun. As a writer, I’d say I use pretty good language. I can describe things well, I’m good at organization, but I can improve on all of these. I also need to work on concentrating so that I don’t have to work late. A writer always has room to grow. While one may be excellent in some parts of writing, they’re not the best at everything. Assignment-Sheet Self Assessment

...Assignment Sheet Self-Assessment For my universe I decided to go with the X-Men (superheroes) universe because I really love superheroes and what they can do. Going back to the syllabus I had Logan, a.k.a. Wolverine, as the teacher of a history class about mutant history. And just for a quick overview of Logan, his personality is somewhat of a “dick” personality. So whenever there is a rude or offensive comment in the assignment sheet, which is intended. For my assignment sheet I decided to go with the class writing a paper. Woohoo

...very paper needs an introduction. In fact, the introduction is the most important part of your paper, because few of your readers will ever read beyond it. And there's not much hope that any of them will if you don't grab their attention from the start. So it's a mystery why so many papers begin with twaddle like this excerpt from a conference on high performance computing. Massively parallel computers (MPCs), characterized by their scalable architectures, are a viable platform on which to solve the so-called grand-challenge problems. These distributed-memory systems are expandable and can achieve a proportional performance increase without changing the basic architecture. In order to take full advantage of scalable hardware, the application software must also be scalable to exploit the increased computing capacity. If you find your thoughts drifting away, don't feel bad; we have evidence that the authors felt the same way - consider the near-meaninglessness of the second sentence. The real weakness, though, is that this extreme form of ``grandmothering'' has no other function than to tell you something you already know, and wouldn't be comprehensible if you didn't already know. The paragraph is entirely superfluous to any reader who knows the meanings of ``scalable'' and ``grand-challenge problems.'' Other readers, who don't know the buzzwords, are discouraged from continuing. Everybody loses. I'm not going to give you the usual advice that you fuss and fret over...
