According to the results of my Ethical Lens Inventory, my preferred lens is the Rights/Responsibilities and the Results lens. This did not come as a surprise to me. Especially after reading the meaning behind each lens. I have known for the majority of my adult life that I am a person who strives to balance what is right with the understanding that each situation is unique; therefore, it is not possible to predetermine a course of action regarding a scenario without knowing all of the details surrounding the situation. When the best course of action is not clearly identified, I turn to my values and applicable rules to help me make necessary decisions.
One of the core values identified for me through this exercise is Autonomy. Although I do agree that I highly value and respect self-determination, I am not sure if I agree that I prioritize its value over equality. This would be highly dependent on the subject. For example, one controversial debate in today’s current events is “ObamaCare”. Although I believe that each individual should have the right to choose whether or not they want to have health insurance and which insurance they want to purchase, I am heavily inclined to believe that it is more important as a Nation to ensure that every person in our country is able to have access to reasonable and adequate healthcare. I do not want to turn on the news to hear that another little boy has died due to a treatable gum infection that spread to his brain simply because his mother did not have health insurance! This true story is constantly in my mind when I listen to the “ObamaCare” news and debates. If I have to pay extra for my health insurance to ensure that each person (that includes children!) has access to health care through affordable health insurance, then I am willing to accept it. For me, it is the right thing to do!

...Personal Responsibility is the Key to College Success Personal Responsibility is the Key to College Success Although there are many unexpected occurrences in life; one must take on personal responsibility in order to achieve a college degree. First, one must take the initiative by researching colleges and the courses they offer. A prospective student should make sure the college they wish to attend has good reviews and high graduation rates. After finding the right college, one must enroll and meet all requirements the course demands; participate in class discussions, turn in assignments on time, and above all, ask questions. Only you are responsible for what you do or do not understand. There is no blaming anyone else for your failures. If you want to do well in college classes, you must make sure you ask for any clarification you may need to be successful at any given task. Personal responsibility and college success go hand in hand. If you want that degree, you must hold yourself accountable for your actions. If you slack, you are setting yourself up for failure; however, if you take your life into your own hands, and make choices conducive to reaching your goals, you will receive that diploma. For instance, think positive “Generally, the higher the positive affect, the higher the GPA” (Nickerson, Diener, & Schwarz, 2011, Positive affect and college success, p. 719). Personal Responsibility Paper

...Educational Success Through Personal Responsibility Educational Success Through Personal Responsibility Personal responsibility encompasses everything that makes us who we are, what allows us to succeed throughout our lives. To me, personal responsibility is critical because to know its definition is to be a pro-active human being willing to stay focused on themselves and their overall goals, especially when it comes to a college education. Achieving educational success is vital in that it allows us to be taken more seriously in the real world; it’s common knowledge that a majority of people won’t be hired into or attain well paying employment unless they have at least a Bachelors degree from an accredited university. The link between personal responsibility and college success is a clear one, without focus and self-discipline then it would be impossible for someone to succeed in school. A person has to want to be in college, they need an affinitive reason for pursuing their degree, or else their personal responsibility will prove to be considerably low. Before anything else, it’s important for people to know who they are inside and out, to be comfortable and happy in their own skin. According to respected professor D.R. Garrison, self-monitoring is synonymous with personal responsibility to construct meaning. He states “to be responsible for one's own learning necessitates a willingness and ability to self-monitor the learning process” (Garrison, 1997). The value of...

Corporate Social Responsibility Reaction Paper

...Vladimir Putin said “We need business to understand its social responsibility, that the main task and objective for a business is not to generate extra income and to become rich and transfer the money abroad, but to look and evaluate what a businessman has done for the country, for the people, on whose account he or she has become so rich.” Corporate Social Responsibility is a set of policies and functions whereby a business monitors and ensures its active compliance with the spirit of the law, ethical standards and international norms. It is a model in which economic, social, and environmental responsibilities are satisfied simultaneously. Companies these days are issuing corporate social responsibility reports that detail their environment, labor, and corporate giving practices. Also some firms have employed a position of director of corporate social responsibility. Although many firms are endorsing a culture of ethics and social responsibility, some believe that it is being done was a public relations campaign. One of the most common ways to approach CSR is corporate philanthropy. This includes monetary donations and aid given to nonprofit organizations and communities. Donations are made in areas such as the arts, education, housing, health, social welfare and the environment, among others. Reaction Paper on Corporate Social Responsibility

...Jay-Ar C. Dimaculangan In business, we should bear in mind that we have lot of responsibilities to perform not just only with our specific tasks in the organization where we belong but with the community and society where our organization belongs. A company whether profit or non-profit in its form should give back whatever it can contribute for the development and betterment of its society. For me that is what Corporate Social Responsibility is all about. As reported, corporate social responsibility encompasses human rights responsibility, financial responsibility, political responsibility, and environmental responsibility. Like for example, a business has the responsibility to treat employees fairly and with respect, operate with integrity and in an ethical manner in all its business dealings with its stakeholders like customer, suppliers, lenders, general public, and other affected by its operation. It has also the responsibility to sustain the environment for future generations and be a responsible neighbour or member of the community. Having said these, we can see that corporate social responsibility are of growing importance to government and community as they promise to meet challenges of social problems within the changing welfare environments. The government today although given different issues like for example CSR is only a window dressing of the government for their responsibility in the society, have increasingly and continuously considered CSR as an alternative...

Term Paper on Corporate Social Responsibility Practice in Bangladesh

... WHAT IS CSR? Corporate Social Responsibility is a management concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and interactions with their stakeholders. CSR is generally understood as being the way through which a company achieves a balance of economic, environmental and social imperatives (“Triple-Bottom-Line- Approach”), while at the same time addressing the expectations of shareholders and stakeholders. In this sense it is important to draw a distinction between CSR, which can be a strategic business management concept, and charity, sponsorships or philanthropy. Even though the latter can also make a valuable contribution to poverty reduction, will directly enhance the reputation of a company and strengthen its brand, the concept of CSR clearly goes beyond that. Key CSR issues: environmental management, eco-efficiency, responsible sourcing, stakeholder engagement, labor standards and working conditions, employee and community relations, social equity, gender balance, human rights, good governance, and anti-corruption measures. A properly implemented CSR concept can bring along a variety of competitive advantages, such as enhanced access to capital and markets, increased sales and profits, operational cost savings, improved productivity and quality, efficient human resource base, improved brand image and reputation, enhanced customer loyalty, better decision making and risk management processes.  ORIGIN OF CSR CONCEPT In...

Personal Responsibility Paper

... staying organized and time management. It is very important to stay motivated and focused on one’s personal responsibilities. In my opinion, personal responsibility means taking responsibility for one’s own actions. Keeping in mind that one’s own actions always have consequence. Those consequences can directly or indirectly effect one’s self or the people around them. Everyone has their own personal responsibilities. They can be specific like picking the kids up from school every day to wide in range like a general responsibility to the community to raise those kids to respect laws and abide by rules. The relationship between personal responsibilities and college success is a strong one. It involves being accountable for your actions to both yourself and to others. While working on team assignments if you do not follow through with your personal responsibilities the team as a whole will suffer greatly. Assignments will be handed into the team last or at the very last minute. This allows for very little discussion and editing if needed. Everyone on the team will essentially pay for your lack of responsibility to the teams assignments. When one is not willing to take responsibility for their own action the idea of success becomes impossible. Being accountable it the key to long lasting growth. My preliminary plan to practice personal responsibilities in my education are to use the three keys in every class. Setting goals to ensure I stay motivated. This will...

Institutionalizing Mentoring In Police Departments

...The progress on my research paper is a work in progress. As I write my research paper, I find that I am having a difficult time focusing and being able to put my thoughts on paper in a comprehendible way. Today, however, has been the most productive day for me as far as homework and writing, since the arrival of my daughter. Sleep deprivation is definitely taking a toll on my body and mind. Two interesting facts I have found so far on the benefits of mentoring comes from an article I found in Police Chief Magazine, Institutionalizing Mentoring in Police Departments, written by Harvey Sprafka. Sprafka discusses the difference between a Field Training Officer (FTO) and a mentor. Sprafka describes the roles as “distinct yet complementary”....

...Bambang Elementary School Los Baños Laguna Pay-per Me-ché Livelihood Project I. Rationale Appreciation of the arts is most prominent in children during their primary education. Two of the key values necessary for community development are entrepreneurship and creativity. Thus, it would be advantageous to implant these values at an early age so as there will be more room for development in the future. Personal Responsibility Paper

...Maintaining Personal Responsibility to Achieve College Success Shelby Mack GEN 200 2-4-14 Abstract It is essential that personal responsibilities are maintained in a person’s life in order to reach one’s goal of having a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Personal responsibility is being reliable for one’s own actions. Personal responsibility is important because one will be personally accountable for their failures, their accomplishments and their family’s future. It is vital that a person maintain personal responsibility. There are a few ways they can maintain personal responsibility. First, one would need to set realistic goals. It is important for a person to set realistic goals because it can be beneficial, if you stick with it. People who set goals are more likely to succeed than those who don’t set goals. (Merritt, Berger, 1998). A person can do this by setting short term goals and following through with those goals and then setting long term goals and following thru with them, as well. There are 5 steps you can take to accomplish your goals: 1.) Identify the nature of your goal. 2.) Determine how the goal may be accomplished. 3.) Set time limits 4.) Obtain feedback and 5.) Remain patient. ( Austin American Statesman, 1998) Secondly, if one is having health problems and/ or finance issues you should not let this hold you back. This can be a big stumbling block for many but we should not let this defer us from what we know we need to do. You are pretty...
