...University Abstract This research proposal is a study to look at the preventive maintenance in pre-adolescent girls, before they reach puberty. This is a longitudinal study designed to research how preventive maintenance can help lower anxiety and depression in adolescence. This is an ongoing investigation with other research that has implemented other types of intervention models for depression. However, the focus of this study is to help young girls in discovering their true identity when reaching a period in their life where stress from school, social pressure and media have an effect on their way of thinking. Introduction There is a significant difference in depression in adolescent girls compared to that in boys. A lot of research has been developed to find reasons which may explain the increased rate of depression, but very little research has been done on the preventive side to help adolescents in dealing with stress and anxiety. The reason for this research is to help facilitate a better way of coping and managing a young person’s stress and anxiety; by helping minister better alternatives to solutions that they may not be fully aware of. The groups which will be examined are pre-adolescents girls, ages 8 to 11, more specifically the 4th and 6th grade level. Proposal Earlier studies concluded that young girls experience more anxiety/depression then boys around the ages of 13 to 15 years old. (Stephanie J. Cox, 2010). One research concludes that adolescent girls...

...POSSIBLE MISSING LINK: The primary and secondary questions you have proposed for research seem very well developed. The only potential problem I can see with your questions is the possible problem that you didn’t thoroughly link sustainability to your major field. I see that you have a very clear link with sustainability but it seems as if you have possible left out the link to your major field. I would suggest that you specify what your major field is and what kind of field biosorption deals with. I am guessing that biosorption has to deal with either the chemistry or biology field but I am not sure and I would recommend specifying which field it deals with and making that connection clear. Other than the potential link to your major field possibly missing the questions look very good. POTENTIAL FOR RESEARCH QUESTIONS: The questions you have provided for research seem to me like they have a very good potential to yield a very successful research paper. I think that your primary question is specific enough to be answered thoroughly with well-developed answers in a short research paper. The questions you have provided also do not have a yes or no answer and require a more in depth answer which will be beneficial to you when writing your research paper. The questions also seem to cover the area of biosorption very well and seem like they link that topic to sustainability in a very good manner. The only suggestion I have for you is to revise your questions and make sure...

...Review of “Research Summary and Bibliography for Structured English Immersion Programs” of the Arizona English Language Learners Task Force Stephen Krashen University of Southern California Kellie Rolstad Arizona State University Jeff MacSwan Arizona State University The “Research Summary and Bibliography for Structured English Immersion Programs” of the Arizona English Language Learners Task Force purports to present a scholarly and balanced review of current scientific knowledge regarding effective programs for English Language Learners (ELLs) in general and Structured English Immersion (SEI) in particular. However, we find that the review neglects to reference significant research bearing on the questions raised, and frequently draws inappropriate conclusions from the research presented. Perhaps most disappointing is the tendency in the review to neglect important conceptual distinctions which could have usefully guided the research summary. Below we address each area of literature review in turn, pointing out significant limitations and incorrect interpretations as they arise. 1. What is the current state of scientific research in the area of effective instruction for English Learners? The review cites references to make the point that there are relatively few high quality studies regarding program effectiveness for English Language Learners, with estimates ranging from five (Gersten & Baker, 2000) to fifty (Genesee, Lindholm-Leary, Saunders...

...| Research Article Review | Proactive encouragement of interdisciplinary research teams in a business school environment: strategy and results | | | Research Article Review Proactive encouragement of interdisciplinary research teams in a business school environment: strategy and results Author: Susan M. Adams, Nathan C. Carter, Charles R. Hadlock, Dominique M. Haughton and George Sirbu Introduction: This article describes the importance of interdisciplinary research and teaching that has become a common theme in assessing the state of modern university. The US National Academies have issued a self described ‘call to action’ to universities to upgrade their attention to this issue and the retiring president of the International Economics Association has argued strongly for more to be done to connect the disciplines. Many academic work of business school faculty still tends to focus on the interests of disciplinary academic journals. The pressures for a disciplinary focus encourage individual investigators to pursue common phenomena. It is convenient to view cross-disciplinary collaboration using a social network Paradigm. Research findings indicate that, in general, diverse teams promote more innovative solutions provided they can work well together. Individuals working on teams are bridge to external resources from their own social networks. In this way a team benefits from members that have connections to outside networks that can provide access to additional...

...Research Study Review Lauren Jones May 17, 2014 ENGL305 Lisa Burkart-Chalmers Article Summary This article discusses the idea of being in compliance with HIPAA transaction standards is reducing the cost of submitting health care claims. At the beginning of 2006, Bob Brown reported that there was little evidence that the administrative simplification provisions of HIPAA had produced any savings in health care costs. However, a new research report indicates that the standards for electronic transactions may be responsible for savings of over $1 billion. (Brown, 2006) Bob Brown relied on the research that he did a few months before to compare his findings about health care claims and saving money on costs of the claims that were being processed at the time of this article. He analyzed both time frames and nearly 25 million claims. He also pulled data from America’s Health Insurance Plan’s (AHIP) Center for Policy and Research for his research too. Although he didn’t look at too many resources, the couple that he used were solid references. Thesis Statement The author did his research about being in compliance with HIPAA transaction standards leads to a reduced cost when a health care claim is submitted. He convinced his audience and backed up his data with interesting facts. Strengths and Limitations The author did a good job with his research but it was limited. He used information that he already had and added to it. He did look to a couple other researches...

...Casey Smith Parenting Stress, Social Support, and Depression for Ethnic Minority Adolescent Mothers: Impact on Child Development Over the years teen pregnancies have seemed to increase higher, but girls of African American and Hispanic/ Latino ethnicities seem to have the highest pregnancy rate. Also African Americans and Hispanic/Latino have higher school dropout and economic disadvantages. Adolescent mothers also seem to have a higher risk of having depression or parental stress, rather then adult mothers. The mother’s depression can affect the child, and the child may be at risk of depression or development delays in life. If the mother seems to be having signs of depression they may not want a lot do with the child, and that could have a severe impact on the child. If the mother is depressed and doesn’t take care of their child properly, the child may have health problems or deal with substance abuse later in life. The purpose of this study was to see if parenting stress and social support impact child development especially in ethic minority populations. If the mothers parenting stress is high they will likely have negative parenting behaviors, which could impact the child and cause them to have depression. The child and mother then have an unhealthy attachment if she shows high levels of parenting stress. According to Spencer (2002) found that adolescent mothers continued to experience high levels of parenting stress 2 years after their infant was born. Since adolescent...

...Web Search Assignment #1 (Quantitative Research) Kayla Tranbarger Tabor College Wichita Instructor: Marlene Pietrocola NUR 410: Evidence Based Nursing Practice January 25, 2015 I chose the article titled “The effect of nurse-performed preoperative skin preparation on post-operative surgical site infections in abdominal surgery”. This quantitative research article is an experimental study to determine the effect of preoperative skin preparation procedures by nurses on post-surgical site infections in abdominal surgeries. The research question that the authors Dizer et. al are asking is if pre-operative skin preparation will decrease the risk of post-operative skin infections in abdominal surgeries. This study was based on previous research done that states pre-surgical skin cleansing with antibacterial agents greatly reduce the risk of infections. This study is to provide more evidence to support its use into nursing practice. The research design was experimental in that there was an intervention; preoperative skin preparation, a sample group that received the intervention and a control group to compare the sample group to. The methods used to answer the question were that the experimental subjects of the study were 272 patients that had been hospitalized and underwent abdominal surgery during a specified time period. The population of patients that made up the two groups met certain criteria for the study, and then were randomly separated into the sample and control...

...The Research of Medical Marijuana: A literature Review One of the most controversial subjects not only in health care but also in the United States right now is medical marijuana. The subject of marijuana is not new to the U.S but medical marijuana is just beginning to evolve. Medical marijuana also referred to as cannabis, is meant to be a form of medical therapy to treat certain diseases and alleviate symptoms. According to a current research, “Cannabis has been used to reduce nausea and vomiting in chemotherapy and AIDS and to treat pain and muscle spasticity” (Werner, 2012) Since July 31st 2014 there are now 23 legal medical marijuana states and also DC. As many people know, Illinois has just joined on the medical marijuana bandwagon and legalized it in 2013. Becoming a nurse, the use of medical marijuana is going to keep growing and there is still a large amount of research and studies to be done on the subject. Efficacy and safety of medical marijuana in selected neurologic disorders Researches Koppel, Brust, Fife, Bronstein, Youssof, Gronseth, and Gloss came together to focus on how medical marijuana would affect people with neurologic disorders. The main purpose in this study is to determine the efficiency of medical marijuana in several neurologic conditions. One of the most common neurologic disorders seen is multiple sclerosis; which is an autoimmune disease that affects a person’s brain and spinal cord. (Koppel, et. al, 2013) Key points The question the authors...

...Research Article Review Transition to Professional Nursing Practice NUR 230 Research Article Review The authors DeMille, Deming, Lupinacci, and Jacobs published the research article entitled, “The Effect of the Neutropenic Diet in the Outpatient Setting: A Pilot Study” The authors aim was to discover if prescribing a neutropenic diet to patients receiving care in an outpatient setting was beneficial in reducing fevers in those patients. They also sought to find out how compliant these patients would be with a neutropenic diet and what the resulting number of positive blood cultures for gram-negative rods would be among the participants using or not using the diet. This article was interesting to me because I did a case study on patient with severe aplastic anemia with resulting pancytopenia, who was also being administered the immune suppressant, Cyclosporine. This patient was severely immune compromised and part of his neutropenic precautions was a neutropenic diet. This diet was easy to provide while he was hospitalized but I was curious about when a patient is discharged do they still follow the strict diet? This article gave me some answers and some insight to my questions. This study of the effects of a neutropenic diet in outpatients was geared toward patients who had neutropenia, the study defines neutropenia as an “absolute neutrophil count (ANC) of less than 1,000/mm3” (DeMille, 2006). The study criteria required patients who were between the ages of 18...
