Brittany released a second video days before she died again calling for support in the movement for assisted death. Brittany’s videos gained the attention of media outlets across the nation. And, by publically telling her story, she sparked many activist groups in the State of California to push for a Death with Dignity Law to be established. This time, Legislators listened.

The video showed that she felt that she should not be forced to leave her home or the community in which she lived in order to have peace of mind. It also showed that she believed that she should be able to escape from her own suffering, and her plan for death was her choosing, and she had to right to choose. The Governor released a statement indicating that after consulting with his own physicians, religious leaders and many activist groups, as well as reading many letters from various outlets, that he still felt conflicted. It was only after considering his own personal demise that he was able to come to the conclusion that he would want the choice, the choice to live or to die, and that was the deciding factor in his position and agreeing to sign the bill into law. (Lin & O’Neill, 2015) Coincident to the State of California, there are 12 other states considering the same type of bill that has passed in California. It appears that the predictions that had been made were correct. It was surmised that with the passing of this law in the State of California, many other states would re-evaluate their position on assisted
