Preface

I am not a professional writer. I had never written a book in these twenty years of my life, and never thought I would. I just tried to do a work that would be liked by everyone. But thanks to Lahore School of Economics, which made me write a book of my own, in form of a project, but still, a book is a book and I am proud to say that it’s mine. The purpose of the book is to share my experiences, observations, studies and sentiments with the readers of the book. The book includes a collection of articles, poems, short story and a travelogue which I am sure anybody will love reading. And also I am very grateful to my friends Hamid Ali, Shahaeb Shehryar, Hafiz Shehroz, Babar, Ahmed, Abbas and many others who have helped me in writing this book. Without their support I could not have done this.

SHORT STORIES

STRENGTH OF MIND

(He was sitting in his small house which was far away from the town. It was winter season. He was not very good socially. He was thinking about his future plans in a very stern mood.) Ali was a son of a car driver; his family consisted of five members including his parents, his two elder sisters and himself. He was fifteen years old. His father was a very hard working person but unfortunately was not educated enough due to his worst family conditions. That’s why he was hardly making his both ends meet. But he was giving best education to his children and he never compromised on it. His one daughter did her masters and one did graduation. However, Ali was in matriculation. His father always taught him to work hard with determination to succeed in life. And he filled his mind for not to leave his studies in any case. He was a good boy. He was enjoying his life. His studies were going well. He was succeeding in his class. His mother was a house wife but besides this she used to stitch clothes of people to earn livelihood and also to help her husband in running their home in a better way. Both of his parents were working hard just to give a good, prosperous life to their children. He never thought of all this, as he was free of all these thoughts due to his main focus on his studies. In free time he also used to play with his neighbor friends. His elder sisters’ marriage was coming near and his matriculation was also going towards completion. His parents fixed the marriage date of his sister just after his matric exams which were after two months. His mother started collecting things for his sister’s dowry and she had also prepared some jewelry for her. His father was also working overtime to save some money for his daughter’s marriage. His exams were coming near and he was busy in their preparation. He appeared in his exams and did very well in it. After his exams, he was very happy as his sister’s marriage was coming near. It was immediately after five days. Just before two days of marriage, he was sitting in his house. His mother came to him crying. He asked his mother what happened. But she kept on weeping and told me in a stumbled voice that our shadow has gone away. I didn’t understand at that time. Then his sister calmly told me that our father is not between us. He has died in a car accident. He asked her again in agony, but she replied him the same. He was totally stunned at that time. He wasn’t accepting it. His father was very happy about his sister’s marriage but all this happened very unexpectedly. His mother was out of his senses at that time. She did not believe in this incident. In the mean time, the dead body of my father came home. It was like there was no earth under his feet. His actual source of inspiration had gone. In all this painful period of our life, they did manage sister’s marriage. After that they were very much worried about how to run their home, as their main source of livelihood and their shadow had passed away. His father was the only source of encouragement for him. He used to share everything with his father. But then his mother gave him strength and gave him hope to be successful in his life. She advised him to be a good and an honest person and asked him to prepare his mind to face the challenges of life manfully. He promised his mother that he would act upon his parent’s advice. He would always work hard as his father did in his life and he would continue his studies as advised by his father. Those were very aching moments of his life. He determined at that time that he would use all the strength of his mind to become a good flourishing person in his life. He did his inter in very good marks. He took admission in a well-known university on a full merit-based scholarship with his astonishing efforts. He also kept doing a part time job after his father’s death to earn livelihood for his family. He also had a burden of one sister’s marriage. He started saving money for her sister’s marriage by doing overtime work just like his father did. He kept on doing the work with his strong willpower. He did manage the marriage of his other sister in a very simple manner. He supported his mother as well. He didn’t let her mother work after his father’s casualty. He did his best in his graduation and with the prayers of his mother; he got a good respectable job which led him towards his achievements. He worked very hard to reach that place, otherwise in such critical conditions where there is no source of funding and inflation is touching the sky, it is very difficult for a person to support his family in such a small age but he did it in a very humble way. Allah also helped him a lot and he gave Ali the reward of his uphill struggle. Then his mother thought of Ali’s marriage, as it was important for her mother to have someone who would care about her and also give relief to his son. Ali did his marriage in a very gentle way. Allah blessed him with a very good wife, who was very much loving and caring towards him and his mother. This was all because Ali was modest and humble. These were the rewards given to him by Allah for his utmost efforts and struggle which he did through all his life. He always thanked Allah for whatever he had. And in return he got a very happy and successful life. This is what a man gets after a vast struggle. He always acted upon what his father said to him. It was all about the strong faith he had and great efforts he did in his life because hard work is never left unrewarded.

HOPELESSNESS OF TURAB (Turab was sitting in the TV lounge at six o’clock on the Saturday evening. Weather conditions were pleasant. He was thinking about her fiancé, Anum in a very romantic mood as he was sitting alone.)

Turab was a young man of age 25. He had completed his education and was searching for a job those days. He was very happy because he was going to marry her fiancé after six months. It was his love marriage. He had only one girl in his life. He never thought of anyone else than her. He loved her from the core of his heart. They were the best days of his life. Her fiancé also loved him so much. She was very much sincere with him. She was very happy with Turab. She wanted to spend her whole life with him. Hence both of them loved each other a lot. As soon as their marriage was coming near, their feelings were increasing. They were very excited and glad about it as it was the decision of their whole life. Although they were very happy about it but due to the fact that Anum had to leave her home, her parents for the whole life. And had to settle in another home, Turab was noticing that Anum’s health is going down but she didn’t realized Turab about it. With the time, she was going down in health. Hence she was not telling anyone about it. One day he was sitting in his TV lounge. His cell phone rang. The call was from Anum’s home. Her mother said that his fiancé had got cancer and she is in hospital right now and doctors are saying that it is on last stage. And she had only one month to live. There is no cure of it rather than prayers. Turab was shocked at that time. It was very deadly news for him. He immediately rushed towards the hospital. But at that time it was of no use. The case was very complex and everyone was very much worried about it as was a sudden incident for all of them. He became so much disappointed that he came back home thinking about what happened with him. He was thinking of finishing his life. Then his parents gave him patience and taught him to accept the decision of Allah. But he was not accepting it at that time. Turab went into his room, slammed the door. He knew in that moment that his life would never be the same again

REALITY OF LIFE

In the wheel of life, no one is yours in this world. You have to do everything for you. No one will work for you. No one will die for you. No one is there to help you. Nobody bothers about you. The whole world is selfish. Everybody has his own things to do. People just show off. They don’t mean what they say. Everyone is jealous of the other, whether he/she is your friend, your own blood and every one you know. In the midst of life, every one leaves you alone. It seems like it’s their obligation to make you hate the life and lead you to become hopeless. Not even a single soul is there to make you feel life good. What people bother about are the material things. People don’t value, but the things do. This beautiful soul doesn’t matter for them. Unfortunately what matters to them are the luxuries of life, the money and all the things that we buy from it? They don’t ever think that money can give them the luggage for happiness, but it can’t give them the real happiness inside. They don’t bother about others when they are good in strength but when they lose their health even then they don’t consider that they can buy the equipment for health from this lush plush world, but they can’t buy health itself. Money can make you rich in wealth but it can never make you prosperous. People know how to take work from others, but they don’t know how do work for others. They know very well how to hurt others, but they don’t know how to make others happy. They can manage time to tease others, but sorry to say they don’t have time please others. They just want their happiness. They only know about their emotions. They only care about themselves. They only think about the ways to trap others, but they don’t try to facilitate others. Also there are many people who just want to make others home a hell, by spreading rumors about them. They just want their own home to be prosperous, but not of others. It seems like everyone is here just to eat you. Unfortunately, we are a part of this world. So we have to face all the difficulties, all the hurdles manfully. We have had to be brave enough to face the “Realities of life”. No one is there to teach us except our own experiences. So after having such experiences, we should be as bolder as necessary to fight with the challenges in life. We should always be ready to dare the tests of life. We should be straight forward. Do well and take good. This world is all about “give and take”. Everything here comes with a price tag. Whatever service you take, you have to pay for it. Nothing is free of cost here. Even if you ask your friend to do your assignment, you have to pay for it in the form of a burger or something else. Honesty doesn’t pay you enough to survive here. It crushes you in this world. If you don’t have any reference you cannot get the job. If you don’t money you cannot do any work. And your degrees are of no use. Each department asks you for a bribe, otherwise your life is like a hell. And this is what the reality is all about. What one should do is that he should be strong enough to defend this mashing world. He should face the things courageously. Apart from all the things, honesty should be his first priority. Having good at his place, whatever post he is at, he should be caring and helpful to others. He should do his work with honesty, he should give others the way to do the things around and he should be an absolute example for others to follow.
MY SCHOOL DAYS

I remember that it was my first day of school, when I was crying due to the fear of school and leaving my home for the school timings. I was four years old when I got admission in Aligarh Public School. My elder brother and sister were already studying in that school. They were a great source of inspiration for me. It was all because of their motivation that I got settled their, otherwise I was very scared of going to school. It was my first day of school. I went to my class, nursery blue. When I saw that many other students like me were also sitting there, then I got relief. As the days passed, I became habitual of going to the school. My teachers were very loving and caring. They were the foundation of encouragement for me. Then of course my parents, they urged me to go to school. So that one day, I would be able to stand on my own foot. At that time, I was a child and I didn’t know all this. But now when I see myself at a good place, I appreciate their efforts but they can’t be expressed. Then I started excelling in my school due to great support of my parents and my siblings. In grade one I got first position in the class. My father came to my school to collect my result card on parent’s teacher meeting. I was very happy and I was saying that no one is more genius then me. I am the only one. After that I stand out in all the grades. In each grade, I always took some position. From grade two I started taking participate in every school function. In each and every tablo that was performed in the school, I was always the part of that performance. The performances included dramas, song shows and also I remember that in grade three, I had a couple dance. Now when I look back, I smile on myself. Also I memorize that in grade three, I had a girl friend. She was very good and caring. She remained with me till grade five and I still remember her. And also once Abrar-ul-Haq, our great singer came to my school, along with the chief justice, Naeem-ul-hassan shah. I remember that in front of Abrar-ul-Haq I gave performance on one of his song. My teachers always supported me in this aspect. They always encouraged my work and gave me a lot of chances to polish up myself. They also gave me chances in debating, which gave me a lot of confidence to present myself in a good way. I also took part in the sports. I was an important part of my cricket team. I played a lot of matches there. I also won a cricket match in grade five. I also participated in hundred meter racing every year. And every time I felled in top three positions. I also took part in sac racing and got second position in it. After having those achievements, I completed my primary education. That school was only till grade five for boys and it was mostly for girls till college level. Then I joined Custom Public School, which was already joined by my elder brother. In that school, I started from grade six and remained there till grade eight. In that school, many people know me, as my elder brother was there. I became the first monitor over there. And I was always the part of school assembly there. I always leaded my friends over there. My teachers always cared about me. They were very much concerned about me. They always helped me in worry. I also took part in extracurricular activities over there. I also played cricket there. Once I was also selected in the under sixteen national team of Pakistan at the age of thirteen. When I was in grade eight I took first position in the whole school out of a great competition and got the gold medal. My parents and my siblings became proud of me. I was also feeling very glad at that time. That was a great achievement for me. After that school I did my matriculation from another school, there I got ninety percent marks and an A plus grade in matriculation. This was my unforgettable school life from which I can’t etch even a single moment out of my mind. I would say that it was magnificent.

ARTICLES

CREATIVITY OF MEDIA Creativity means innovation or something new. Creativity itself is an art and having an artistic mind is amazing. Creativity relating to media refers to many things. It includes the ads, films, talk shows and many other things. It also delivers some informational and inspirational programs. Nowadays, we all know that media has full freedom. No one can restrict media. So, sometimes it’s creative, imaginative and sometimes it exaggerates things. Also there many wrong things which media is delivering, but actually they don’t exist. Everything has its positive and negative effects. So the media also have some positive and negative effects, but the negative effects are enhancing these days. They are a source of destruction for children and also they are spoiling them and making them lazy too. Let’s discuss the negative effects first. As far as the dramas are concerned there is no creativity anywhere. But they are attractive and making house wives addicted to them because they contain the content related to everyday life. However, when we look at its effect on children it’s quite depressing. It is filling their minds with trash. By watching scary movies, fearful cartoons and terrifying documentaries children become afraid of many things. Children also play fighting games and games including wars, which have made them do whatever they see. Sometimes they do perform unethical actions even. They also implement what they see. For instance, if they watch fighting, they start fighting and punching with their friends. This thing is making their future dark and making them not to study. Hence, it’s increasing wrong perceptions in their minds. On the other hand, it also has some positive effects. It is very creative and imaginative. To illustrate, if we look at the ads of Ufone they are very creative and interesting too. They always have something new. Also there are some shows which are very creative. They bring creativity in the minds of children and also make their brain artistic. There is a program called “MAD”, it comes on POGO TV channel. There is a man who always creates new things. Sometimes he use rough and trash things to create some innovative things. He teaches children how to convert scrap into gold. Another quite interesting channel named “NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC” channel is very informative one. It provides people with effective, helpful and up to date knowledge. There are many other programs which are very useful for children and as well as for elders. They can use this information to make themselves imaginative and artistic enough to achieve the goals and meet the challenges of their life but they can also use this in the other way round. Therefore, it can be a basis for our destruction and as well as a foundation for our well-being.

TRAVELOGUE

TRIP TO MURREE

I was in college at that time when my college arranged the trip to Murree for three days. They were giving the whole package including residence and transport service. So it was very safe and sound for all the students to go. My friends asked me to be the part of the trip as it will be a source of recreation for us. I said that it seems quite interesting. I had never been to Murree before. I want to go, but let me ask my parents for the permission first. I came back home. I asked my parents for the permission. They happily allowed me to go but just asked me to be aware and careful the whole way. I jumped up in excitement and became glad. And I said thanks to my parents. The very next day I told my friends that I will also be going with them. They became happy too. Then we submitted the charges for the trip in the accounts office and got the tickets. After waiting for two days, the time came to go. It was Thursday evening when we boarded the bus for Murre which were arranged by the college. Meanwhile our journey started. We started off with the pray for journey. We were very glad and curious to reach Murree. We enjoyed the whole journey by having chit chat and playing various indoor games. Finally we reached our destination. The weather was very cold over there. We hurriedly wore our jackets, gloves and woolen hats. Then our teachers took us to the guest houses. They gave us the keys for our rooms. We went into our rooms, put off the luggage and freshened ourselves. We were very interested as we were there only to enjoy, no studies, no tensions. We locked our rooms and went to the mall road of Murree to have our breakfast. After that we decided to visit some other places nearby. All of my friends agreed upon to go to “PATRIATA” first to get the chair lift. We booked a town ace car to go there. In the way I was observing the nature of God, the mountains, trees, huts, twisted roads and also the chirping of beautiful birds and a healthy feeling. I was totally indulged in that place. Meanwhile, we reached “PATRIATA”. It was very good place. We got the tickets for chair lift. There was a great crowd there. When we got into the life, the whole scene was fantastic. It was a pleasure for us. In the way, the view was very heart touching. However, all the distance that we covered in the chair lift was very awesome. After that we decided to go to “NEELAM VALLEY”, as everyone told us to must go over there. We were on our way to Neelam River. Suddenly a place came where there was land sliding area. Some part of the road was dig into the ground. It was so severe that our wagon was not able to go on the other side. We all became worried then. We lose all our hopes. We became sad. But after few minutes a car driver from the other side came to us and asked us that he was going to the way to river. We instantly booked his car and became happy. We started our journey again. After sometime we reached Neelam point. The place totally trapped our hearts. It was the pure manufacturing of nature. The view can be described in words, but feelings can’t be. It gives relief to the heart and soul. At that point, there were two rivers combining each other. One was cold and the other was warm. Both of them had different colors. But even after they were joined together, there colors were still different. It seemed that they were not mixing with each other. The waves of the river were snatching our souls from us. I was very happy over there. I captured the whole scene in my mind. We took a lot of pictures for our memory. And also we ate hot “PAKORAS”. The weather was very chilling. We played a lot with each other. I called my home and told my siblings that I am enjoying a lot. After screening that sight, no one of us was willing to leave that place. We were at the extreme of our enthusiasm. But unfortunately time never stops so we had to go. Then we again sat in our wagon, and took our way to Murree. It was getting dark outside when we reached Murree we were very tired, but our stomachs were also filled with appetite. Then we went to a restaurant, took some food to eat, and then went to our guest rooms. We slept at late night and got up early. The very next day was our last day in Murree. That day we decided to go to “Ayyubia” and “Nathia Gali”. We went to Ayyubia first. In the way, we saw a lot of monkeys. They were staring at us. And they were looking so cute. We bought some maize’s and gave it to them to eat. They became very happy after eating it. In the meantime, we reached Ayyubia. It was famous for monkeys and a comfortable and long chairlift. We wanted to take the chairlift, but the row for buying the tickets was enormous and it seemed that our turn would not come till the next day. Then we hanged around for sometime over there and started our journey again. We were on our way to Nathia gali. We saw striking sceneries of nature. When we reached there, we saw that it was a very nice place to go. People were going around. That street was a shopping mall and also there were some amazing restaurants and guest houses. We viewed that place. We enjoyed a lot. We saw some magic shops there. They were having some marvelous magic’s with them. We saw them and I bought one which I liked the most for my little brother. Then we went on further, we saw things made up of cat’s skin. From there I liked a ladies hand bag. It was beautifully made. I bought that one also for my elder sister. My friends also bought some gifts for their siblings. We saw many wonderful things there which astonished us. After having a lot of fun there, we went back to Murree. But the whole day was unforgettable. After reaching Murree in the evening, we were invited by our college on a dinner in “Usmania” restaurant. We hurriedly went to our rooms and got prepared for going to the dinner. All our teachers were there to welcome us. The dinner was very good. We had a lot of fun there. It was the last evening of our trip. We were very happy, but somehow sad too. As the trip was concluding and our hectic routines had to start again. The last night there, we enjoyed much. We didn’t sleep for the whole night. The very next morning we had to leave for Lahore. At ten sharp, after having breakfast we boarded the buses and left from there for our way towards our home city. In our way, our bus got some mechanical problem. In that time, we stopped there at Jhelum river point. We had fun there for some time. After the bus got fixed, we started the journey again. We reached Lahore in the evening. My parents were waiting there for me to take me to home from where the bus stopped. My parents became very happy to see me safe and sound. It was my first trip, but a memorable one. Each and every moment I enjoyed there. All this happened because of my parents and of course all my friends that I went for such a long trip. After that trip I became able of going out of city alone for such an adventurous trip fearlessly. All in all, those three days made my life magnificent.

TRIP TO LAS VEGAS

I was on the airport to depart for America. I was going there to meet some of my friends and also I was having some important tasks to do. After having a long journey, I reached America. My friends were waiting there to welcome me. I was so happy to meet them. It was a pleasure for me. They took me to their home, served me some food to eat and after that they gave me a room to freshen up myself and to take rest. The next morning after having breakfast, I said that I have to complete some tasks. They said sure. Then I completed my tasks within two days. After that my friends asked me to have some outing or to arrange a trip somewhere. I asked them about special places to visit there. They gave me some good options, but out of them we decided to go to “LAS VEGAS”. They told me about the specialty of that place. I became very curious to visit that place. Then we got into the car and started our journey to Las Vegas. We enjoyed the whole journey having chit chat and listening to the music. When I reached there, I imagined that I was seeing the whole world a one sight. In that suspicious moment, I started visiting that place. The whole view was very touchy. Las Vegas strip is in the state of Nevada. This Las Vegas Boulevard is the most concentrated collection of lights in the world. This is the heart of this place. It is actually a replica of special places of different countries like Eiffel tower in Paris, statue of liberty in New York. It’s like seeing the whole world around. It is also known as the “SIN CITY”. It’s due to the fact that it is a good place for gambling and sordid fun. Also there are casinos over there. Moving besides the strip I saw Eiffel tower which is actually in Paris, but I saw its same replica over there. It was five forty feet tall copy of Eiffel tower in front of Paris Las Vegas hotel. Then we took the elevator ride to go up and view the whole strip of Las Vegas and the fountain show of Bellagio across the street. It was a very pleasant view that was very attractive. Then we moved on to Bellagio, which was the combination of elegance of old world with modern luxuries. There was a fine art gallery which was representing their artists. It is a country famous for buildings that surround water. Then I saw the water show over, which was giving an enchanting view. Water shows are also being performed in Dubai. Although that place is a desert and water is very rare even for home usage. But to create a beauty of that place they used water and many other things which were not there. It was only to make that place a worth seeing. Then we saw Wynn, a very beautiful resort. It was a great source of attraction for people. It provides an extra guest experience. There was a lake of dreams, which was amusing people a lot. It is also well known for world’s best casino, which attracts the gamblers all over the world. And also there were nightclubs, where people come and enjoy. There were some boutiques for shopping too. Overall it’s a very good place.

Caesars Palace, as the name suggests it is a glory of Rome and a must-see destination. It was giving a complete view and soothing effect of the places in Rome. There were also several swimming pools with graceful fountains around and classic statues. At night, it was giving a great sight. It was covered with beautiful lights. It seemed like someone has entered in paradise. It was a place surrounded with water all around. And there were much more things to see. The place Excalibur was giving a view of a great castle. It looks like Manchester or a big watch house. There a lot of heart catching buildings. They were the pure source of attraction for the tourists. It was a place giving a relaxed and calm environment. It was giving a royal treatment to everyone. The Venetian is a replica of an Italian city, Venice. It is a place like town. People were hanging around like the streets of London. There was a canal at that place, which was very finely made. Poker was seen everywhere. Many of its hotels got rewards due to their best service. It was such an amazing place that I was totally dissolved into that place. At that time I was thinking of spending the whole life over there. It was the most memorable trip for me which I can’t forget ever in my life.

CRITIQUE

TAARE ZAMEEN PAR

The movie was produced and directed by Aamir Khan with a theme that “Every Child is Special”. The story is about an eight year old child, Ishaan Awasti who is a slow learner, but no one recognizes him even his parents didn’t understand him. He has his own world. He does not perform anything rightly. He does his work in his own way. He was always found fighting with his friends in neighbor. His teachers always punished him and complained his parents that he is abnormal. However, his brother was very brilliant. But even then two brothers can never have the same nature to do work. After giving bad performance in school, his teachers asked his parents that he is abnormal. So they should admit him in a boarding school. His father became very angry with him and decided to admit him in a boarding school. Then they admitted him there. He does not want to go there because he loved his mother a lot and he was unable to live without her. But his father forcefully sent him there. After going there he became very sad. At that moment he sang a song named “Maa”. In that school, there was no one to value him. He was alone there. He became very dull. One day a new art teacher came in his class named, Ram Shankar. This teacher was Aamir khan itself. He emerged as a great source of inspiration for him. He let the children think in their own way and in a mode they want the things to be like. He asked them think artistically and constructs their thoughts on a piece of paper. Everyone started doing work except Ishaan. He realized that this child has some problem, but he is very special. He let Ishaan think and do what he wants to. He made him put his thoughts out of his mind. He also let him find himself. Then Ishaan started taking interest in thinking about what he has in his mind. And also he started imagining things. In the start, other teachers thought that Aamir khan is wasting his time, but then they sooner realized that he was doing well. He remained doing all this for a long time. He realized that with time that child was changing. As he was a slow learner so he was learning by thinking. It was all because of Ram Shankar that he was excelling in his field. He started liking his art teacher. He started doing the things which his teacher does. It seemed that he wanted to be like his teacher. After a long time, when his parents saw him they shocked to see a positive change in his life. He started knowing himself.

In the end an arts competition held in the boarding school. Everyone made his painting with best of his efforts. Ishaan also made a painting which included all the thoughts in his mind. His teacher supported him a lot in the competition. When the competition ended, there was a prize distribution ceremony. The judges were really impressed by his painting and the thoughts coming out of it. They gave him the first position for that painting. When they called him on the stage for taking the prize, he didn’t bother about it, as he was indulged in his own thoughts. Then his teacher, Ram Shankar took him to the stage and asked him to get the prize and an appreciation from the judges. That painting was having so much depth in it that it was made the cover page of his school magazine. Ishaan became famous in the school. His parents thanked his art teacher on the success of their child. They were unable to express their healthy feelings in words. They became proud of their child. They encouraged him a lot and his mother loved him. His brother also gave him a big appreciation. There is nothing worthless in this world. Everything has its own significance. Nothing is useless here. Each and every thing has a purpose, but we don’t know what its purpose is. Even the animals have a purpose. They provide us meat, milk, and clothes. Just understand others. Not even try to degrade anyone. Because disgracing someone else, always lead to your own disgrace. So we should ponder upon it and understand others. And also we should give others a way to find themselves and make them hopeful in their life. One should always be an optimistic person and he should think broadly in all the perspectives.

SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF LSE I was sitting in Shumyla garden, pleasant weather; cool wind blowing, sun shines coming down giving vitamin D. I was feeling safe and sound. I was seeing people here and there. I saw a boy rushing towards Aud 3 and a girl coming out from main library having books in her hand. Some groups of boys and girls sitting in the garden, discussing some topic or about a certain project. Some were having a funny chit chat. Then I saw a couple. The girl was having an umbrella to cover her head from sun shines and the boy was writing something. May be they were sharing something. Then I saw three girls going from the entrance to walk through main library. They were talking to each other. Then one of my friends came late and asked me that what are you doing? I said that I was observing the sights and sounds of LSE. Meanwhile I was listening to the background music of generators running all the time due to continuous load shedding of electricity. There were a lot of plants and trees. I was also listening to the rustling of leaves which is a pure product of nature. Also there were some bushes around. There was chirping of different beautiful birds which was giving a soothing effect to the ears. Also there were sounds of boys and girls talking around. Two boys were having their funny fight due to some reason. May be they enjoy to beat each other. There were also some benches for the people to sit. Then I saw a boy doing some work sitting in a sleeping position like he is in his bed room. Then I saw the stage in front of the garden where some students were I think preparing for some event. Besides that garden there was a track for people to walk. The garden was very well maintained, its grass was very finely cut. Then I saw some laborers working around, taking files to the class, taking water from the tanks and also some were busy in making the floor clean. Then I saw a booster in front of me which was I think for the mobile signals. On the back side, there was a main shed where some boys and girls were sitting on benches. I saw three girls sitting in the garden. One was giving some money to the other to bring a juice pack for her. Then I saw a girl sitting very sadly on the corner of the garden besides the tree. She was I think sad due to the reason that someone had left her alone. She was talking to herself. She was very sentimental about her reason. She was degrading herself and was throwing her things away. On the other side I saw a boy who was very happy. His face was so much blushing that one can judge and measure the extent of his feelings. May be he had achieved something very valuable for his life. At the same time, I was also looking at the people walking and talking around. Some were happy and some were very sad. Some were depressed and worried about their work. However some were very happy and chill. Then I observed two crows sitting on a branch of a tree. They look like as they were talking to one another and beside that branch there was a nest of birds, their baby birds were chirping in a very pleasant voice. However sitting over there is very charming, and if there weren’t the time constraints, I would be sitting there the whole day.

Chutki: Ayesha is getting married to his cousin and the ceremony will take place after fifteen days.
Fahad: What? She can’t do this to me, she loves me.
Chutki: Yes but her parents wanted a son in law who is rich and well to do, so they engaged her to Osama her cousin.
Fahad: I damn care then, is this the result of my love? Everyone wants money nowadays, no one looks for values and principles, the world has become a living hell!
Fahad calls Ayesha to change her mind but she refuses and surrenders herself to the will of her parents. SCENE 19:
Ext. Grave yard. Day
Fahad enters the grave yard, and goes straight to the grave of his father. Fahad is all gloomy and depressed. He is standing before the grave of his father and is lost in his deep thoughts. He in his own mind is talking to his father.
Fahad: (sarcastically) your principles Abba! Wow they have changed my life, a life quite comparable to hell, I always thought that honesty and principles lead you to a peaceful and comforting life, this is what you told me; but I think that you are in a very better place than I am, you are at peace Abba; I wish I could I die but you left me with no option,

Why Do I Read

...news and science articles from the internet, and occasional bed time stories with my son. I enjoy reading news rather than watch or listen to news, mainly because it allows me to gather and analyze information from various sources without the filter or the bias of television or radio networks news anchors. In addition to news and various articles I prefer to read short stories. My fascination with short stories began at around age 12 or 13. At the time, since access to television in Iran was very limited. We had to entertain ourselves and being a mischievous child I spent a lot of time in my room (being punished) either listening to radio or reading. My favorite books at the time were horror books. I remember buying these paperback books and reading them cover to cover in two or three days and be scared out of my wits for a few days. I recall at the end of some of these books were teasers about the next story that was due to arrive next. However, at the end of one of the books there was a short story by Edgar Allan Poe titled “The Cask of Amontillado”, I read that story several times and every time I found something new that I Had missed previously. That was the reason I got interested in short stories. My fascination with short stories always have been with a given writers ability to develop main characters, , story plot, and a that in novels might take chapters to develop, in a page or two. The stories are rich in content and packed with symbolisms that requires multiple...

Short Story

...Short Story/Film Analysis Wilson Chandler Short Story/Short Film Comm. 411-35 11:30-12:45 Spring 1997 The three short stories are similar because they all involve jealousy. This type of jealousy surrounds the main characters who are envious of the achievements or the attention that another man receives. The first story is about an old man who is taking his wife on a second honeymoon when she encounters an old suitor, creating jealousy for the husband. In the second story, the jealousy surrounds Smurch who is envious of Charles Lindbergh's fame and accolades. The jealousy in the final story is the envy of the attention that any man with fame can receive from a woman. Each person's own insecurity allows envy to control their actions and creates trouble in their lives. The three stories all have jealousy, in some it is more clear than others. Jealousy lead two of the characters to make a fool of themselves, and it cost another character his life. In the first story, Charley took his wife Lucy on a second honeymoon, or Golden Honeymoon, as it is titled. While they are in St. Petersburg Fla., Mother was at the doctors office and began a conversation with a lady, only to discover that she is Mrs. Frank M. Hartsell, Lucy's ex-fiancee. This made Charley uncomfortable because he had rivaled Frank for Lucy's hand in marriage. A story that began as a second...

Life

...Life “Alive” is a short story written by Sharon Solwitz. This short story is included in the book Best American Short Stories of 2012. Solwitz is a professor at Purdue in Indiana. “Alive” is part of a currently unpublished collection that is based on Solwitz’s thirteen year old son who died from cancer. The main plot of the story actually happened, but some of the events and characters were changed to make a better story. My analysis of this story will include a summary, my opinion on the story, and why I think the editors included this short story in Best American Short Stories of 2012. The short story begins with the main character Dylan trying to get his brother Nate to play with him. When Nate turns him down, Dylan goes to his mother to try to find something to do. She comes up with the idea to go skiing. The reader gets the first hint that something is wrong with Nate when the mother says they will go skiing if “Nate’s feeling well enough” (269). This also shows that Nate gets most of the attention from his mom because of his condition. As they are on their way to the mountains, the reader sees the daredevil inside of Dylan when he tries to get his mother to drift their car in the snow. Next, Nate’s problem is foreshadowed when Dylan says, “I wish I had cancer” (271). After Dylan says this, his mother slams on the brakes and begins to scold him. When they arrive at the slopes, Nate immediately spots a beautiful girl with a group of teenagers. Of course, when his family...

...with stones representing the most ancient sacrificial weapons (2). Apart from that, the name Martin signifies monkey or ape. The above is juxtaposed intentionally with Dickie Delacroix and Harry Jones with an aim of urging the people to be aware of the Ape residing within them. Indeed, “Delacroix has been vulgarized in the story to “Dellacroy,” who becomes the first person to pick a large stone something that encourages others to stone Mrs. Hutchinson. The above is a clear indication of forces against change in the society. The presence of Old Man Martin further symbolizes conservatives whose role is to undermine any attempt to discard old traditions (3). In a nutshell, this is a reliable source for my research since Nebeker has made every possible attempt to identify various facts about the historical context of the short story. Jackson, Shirley. The Lottery. Mankato, Minnesota: The Creative Company, 1948. In this short story Shirley Jackson describes one of the smallest towns in contemporary America. The story revolves around an annual event or ritual referred to as “the lottery.” The author seems to have kept the intended meaning of the short story to herself with an expectation that it will become clear overtime. Everyone in the class will pick a short story that they want to read, research, then re-write. There can be no more than three people per story. Good Country People

...Good Country People Author Institutional Affiliation Good Country People Introduction Good Country People is the first and famous short story among the writings of Flannery O’Connor. The short story was published in 1955 in her collection of short stories titled, “A Good Man Is Hard to Find”. The characters in O’Connor’s book are seen to have embraced and rejected some platitudes that have fully taken control over their lives. They give ‘Good Country People’ a lesson based on the dangers humans are prone to as they mistake platitudes for original perceptions. Moreover, there are various themes acquired from the short story: betrayal, grace, nihilism, redemption and blindness. The setting of the story is on Georgian tenant farm. Irony Flannery O’Connor’s short story Good Country People is filled with ironical objects and characters starting from the title. The end of the story gives a lesson on how no-Good Country People exists in the contemporary world. There is irony noticed in the names of the characters in the book. For instance, Manley Pointer’s bible turns out to be a carrier for a small printed blue box, a pack of cards and a pocket flask full of Whiskey. Mrs. Freeman is Mrs. Hopewell’s tenant farmer. From her name, “Free-Man” has no sign of freedom as she is an employee though privileged by being Mrs. Hopewell’s cliché exchange ally. Despite Hulga’s extensive knowledge, she attempts being her own light both intellectually and spiritually. The irony...

Use Of Literary Devices In Thomas Rivera's And The Earth Did Not Devour Him

...In the book, And the Earth Did Not Devour Him, the author Thomas Rivera has many literary devices that help give a better understanding of the book. One main literary device that stood out to me was events. The events in the book allows the audience to grasp an idea toward the character’s actions and help develop the mood. The character’s actions have a relationship with the events because the events help explain what the character will do next. One short story that has the most emotional stress on the main character is, “It’s That It Hurts”, (Rivera 92-96). This event explains how emotional the main character got which leads him to take a drastic turn. The character feels mixed emotions of embarrassment and anger when he is at school. The...
