A vegetarian is a person who does not eat meat or fish, and sometimes other animal products. In most cases people become vegetarians because of: moral, religious, or health reasons. Usually people become vegetarians above the age of 20, this is when you realise and take interest what goes into your body and how it can affect you. Some people are born into vegetarianism because of religious reasons or family preferences. In a religious point of view, most people think that it is unfair to take the life of a living thing and eat the flesh of it. In my opinion I think that, everyone should become a vegetarian and not slaughter them for the satisfaction of the taste of their flesh on their mouth. They are loving things too, most animals do not even feel the sunlight and the grass on their bodies until they are taken out of the rows of their animal and are taken to the slaughter house. Over 56 billion farmed animals are killed every year by humans. More than 3,000 animals die every second in slaughterhouses around the world. These shocking figures do not even include fish and other sea creatures whose deaths are so great they are only measured in tonnes.
There are many advantages to your life and the world around you if everyone becomes a vegetarian, some of which follow: Becoming a vegetarian means less environmental problems. The evidence of a USA report "one of the ... most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global." In just one example, eating meat causes almost 40 percent more greenhouse-gas emissions than all the cars, trucks, and planes in the world combined. This shows that if you become a vegetarian you are doing good to the environment and your body.
Secondly, Vegetarians live a much healthier life than non – vegetarians. Healthy vegetarian diets support a lifetime of good health and provide

Gluten Vs Meat

...Sitting down, friends and family all around, scents of grease and salt encaptures each soul at the table. Plates clink as they are set down and blood spills from the meat-filled entrees. In front of one lonely soul sits a singular salad, a disappointing garden blend of lettuce that only belongs in a taco and one lonely tomato. “That’s what you’re eating?” “Aren’t you sick of salad?” “Where’s the meat on that thing?” Typical questions and a boring meal every vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free person becomes bombarded with at any restaurant or family meal. When eating at either a school event or even a typical restaurant, choosing an entree becomes an almost impossible choice, every item on the menu is engulfed with meat or gluten except a simple...

Vegetarian

...Vegetarianism is a big topic nowadays. Many people are for it, but some think that it has no point at all. Being a vegetarian, I have a big opinion on this topic. There are many benefits to being a vegetarian. For example, they usually eat healthier, have better medical benefits, and show more compassion towards animals. If you ask me, these are good reasons to become a vegetarian. Have you ever stopped to think about if what you are eating is healthy or not? Well, usually, the meat people eat is extremley unhealthy. Vegetarians who eat their fruits and vegetables consume more vitamin C, vitamin E, phytochemicals, which helps fight off desiese, and many more. Some of the meats, like red meat, have people fooled. Those who eat red meat, have a better chance of getting heart desiese, cancer, and having strokes, but many think that it is healthy for you simply because it has protein. There are numerous things that you do not know about the meats you eat. One thing that scares me about meat, is you never know what was fed to the animal, and exactly what part you are eating.. For example, McDonald's chicken nuggest are a big thing. Do you know how they are made? They completley grind the chicken, then make the nuggets out of the meat and who knows what else. In addition, many slaughter houses feed their animals steroids and antibiotics to make them grow at a faster pace. When we eat those animals, we are eating the medication fed to them. These medications are not ment...

Why Eat Meat

...Why Eat Meat Matt Moffa DeVry University Why Eat Meat Think of it this way, if everyone turned vegan or vegetarian eventually there will be no fertilizer and then eventually no plants. If we were all vegetarians we would have to turn all our livestock covered farm land into edible plant fields, which means no livestock and therefore no fertilizer. Then we would have to invent some kind of chemical fertilizer to fertilize the fields, but then wouldn’t that being hypocritical? People should eat meat because it is healthy to eat meat and there is a good meat. People need to eat meat because eating meat is healthy for the body. The human body gets many consumption of meat that fruits and vegetables cannot give them. Many vegetarians or vegans could argue that you can substitute those nutrients with pills. This is a viable argument, but how do you think they created those pills? Most vegetarians would say that eating a vegetarian diet is healthier then eating any meat. Well how much healthier is it really? Beef, chicken and fish are all extremely high in protein. This protein, which is not found in plants, is said to improve the overall health of the body, repair and building of tissues, the production of anti-bodies used to strengthen the immune system and contains all the essential amino acids. Other nutrients found in meat are iron, zinc and selenium. Iron helps in forming hemoglobin that transports oxygen to different...

Going Vegetarian

...29 April 2013 Going Vegetarian In today’s fast-paced, modern and practical society people are becoming more health conscious. This includes trying to choose the best available options for a beneficial lifestyle. They are becoming more concerned these days about the increasing health risks of a meat-based diet. On the other hand, others have taken a step further and believed that animal cruelty involved in killing animals and using them for their products is inhumane and should be outlawed. Vegetarianism used to be an unusual lifestyle choice. Today it is becoming more common and accepted by mainstream society. While there are many reasons for choosing a vegetarian diet, the most important are health reasons, environmental and economic reasons, and, above all, ethical reasons. Well as my sustainability project, a lifestyle change that is good for me and good for the planet, I decided to go vegetarian for a week meaning no meat, no gelatin, or fish. I knew I wasn’t going to have any trouble with fish because I don’t like seafood but meat, I didn’t know if I could last a whole week. March 11 was the first day I started the experiment and of course I had no trouble at all since it was the first day. I actually felt really good going into this and … It felt like nothing on the second day also and found myself just getting another César salad. From the looks of it, I thought I might actually be able to do this and accomplish my goal by not eating any meat. But I spoke too...

Holy Cow

...Holy Cow! In today’s world the issue of meat eating raises a lot of controversial questions. Many people believe that human intelligence should guide us to forbid from killing animals. This belief is far from my opinion. I was raised in an omnivore family. My father eats over five kilograms of meat every day. He’s strong and healthy. I find it funny how depressed he sometimes gets when he comes home from work and sees that mom made a soup for dinner. It seems like he’s closer to the primitive caveman than any modern human can still be, and this leads me to think that forbidding of meat eating is just as unethical as, some may think, eating it is. Humans are carnivores designed to eat meat. The evidence of thorough research proves that the human body is more of the carnivore than herbivore. The length of our digestive tract is similar to carnivores’. Our stomachs produce hydrochloric acid that breaks down a variety of food by activating protein-splitting enzymes. The HCL is nowhere to be found in herbivores’ organisms. Also, the presence of the multiple stomachs declares a tremendous difference between us and herbivores. These few and a lot more differences destroy the popular claim that people should follow a non-meat diet. The answer to what we should eat is deeply encoded in the structure of our bodies (Comparison Between). The studies also show that going back to Stone Age nutritional habits can be very beneficial. Dr. Staffan Lindeberg, an expert in this field, proved...

Going Vegetarian

...Going Vegetarian Many people believe that vegetarians aren’t able to find meatless items at restaurants. It may seem to be more difficult, but according to the “Vegetarian Times” eight out of ten restaurants in the United States offer vegetarian choices. Although being a vegetarian can be challenging, the benefits outweigh the burdens. Today, there are many healthy, vegetarian choices in restaurants around the world. For example, apples and yogurt can even be found at McDonalds! “Farmer’s Weekly” says that not only is a vegetarian diet healthy but it also helps cut greenhouse gases, conserve water, and conserve land. Today, many people are trying to become eco-friendly and don’t know what they can do to help. Giving up meat is a healthy choice for you, for the animals, and it could even help solve world hunger. Many people, when they think of becoming vegetarian, wonder how they are going to get enough protein and iron in their diet. According the book, The Case for Vegetarianism, people are mistaken in thinking that protein comes from animals. Protein actually comes from plant food, meaning that all animals get protein through the food they eat. When trying to figure out what foods have protein, whole grains, beans, nuts, eggs, and peas are all high in protein, as well as all dairy products. To be the healthiest, one’s diet should include a variety of whole foods. Excess protein actually puts stress on the liver and kidney and is also linked with calcium...

You Are What You Eat

...affect us in many ways.   Food is something that can’t only be something that tastes good.   It needs to be something that doesn’t hurt your body.   There are so many benefits to eating healthy.   For example, it can give you more energy throughout the day.   Studies show that something like a bowl of oatmeal is one of the best ways to start of your morning.   Eating healthy can also make you stronger physically.   Putting the right food in your body can do as much as burning off fats.   Overall, it keeps your body at its best and can help you move forward at your best. Some people in the world like to see you are what you eat as describing the particular foods that people eat.   For example, someone may only like vegetables such as a vegetarian, and others may only eat sushi.   To narrow it down, some people may like mashed potatoes, and others may like to eat macaroni and cheese.   The food that people prefer can characterize them in many different ways.   To say that you are what you eat, can mean a variety of thing to other people.   Depending on how you look at it, it can mean anything from a healthy stand point to the way you characterize people in the kinds of food that they prefer.   Eating healthy is a major part of the body that can give us many benefits in life. What we choose to eat, can define us in ways that we may or may not like.   Choosing what we eat can also show what kind of person we decide to be.   Either way, this statement has been around for as long...

Pros And Cons Of Slaughtering

...Far too often, not enough thought goes into the food we consume, particularly when it comes to meat. Typically, we grow up simply eating what is on our plates, never stopping to think about the ethical, political, or environmental consequences of our diets. Why should we? Everyone eats animal products— this is the way things are and always have been and always will be. Social psychologist Melanie Joy perhaps says it best: “Many of us spend long minutes in the aisle of the drugstore mulling over what toothpaste to buy, yet most of us don’t spend any time at all thinking about what species of animal we eat and why. Our choices as consumers drive an industry that kills ten billion animals per year in the United States alone. If we choose to support...

Vegetarianism Research Paper

...Vegetarianism. Vegetarianism is a healthier, more beneficial lifestyle than non-vegetarianism because it is better for your health, the environment, and animal welfare. (“Animals”) According to a recent poll 6 to 8 million American’s do not eat meat, fish, or poultry. From these people studies have been done about the affects of a vegetarian diet on the body. Compared to meat eater, vegetarians consume less saturated fat and cholesterol from not eating meat. This diet leads to better long term health. Research so far has shown that a vegetarian diet reduces the risk of heart disease. In recent years a study was done using 76,000 participants and the results showed that vegetarians were 25% less likely to die from a cardiac event such as a heart attack. This is because vegetarians tend to consume more high-fiber, whole grains, and legumes which have a low glycemic index and the body digests slowly. This keeps blood sugar levels steady. Another food item that helps reduce the risk of heart disease is walnuts. The omega-3s in walnuts help reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol (“Becoming”). Heart disease is not the only health factor to a vegetarian diet; studies have also shown that it can reduce the risk of certain cancer, like colon cancer, breast cancer and others. This...

Vegan Diets

...Hayley Sweet Ms. Richard English 1103 November 3, 2011 Analyzing Arguments: Is Vegan/Vegetarianism Diets Healthy? Eating is a necessary task humans undertake every day to survive and thrive. Food has become a huge part of society’s everyday culture and an essential aspect in our economy. As humans, we are capable of choosing the types of food we put in our bodies and these choices define in part what we look like and what we stand for. People choose whether they would like to be carnivores, vegetarians, vegans, or a combination. Author Ben Kim, a chiropractor and acupuncturist in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, states his thoughts on these choices in his article “A Strict Vegetarian Diet Is Unhealthy for Most People.” His article was written in 2010 to discourage people from adopting 100% vegan diets because in his opinion these diets are dangerous to the long term health of humans. Kim addresses his article to people who have adopted or are thinking of adopting 100% vegan lifestyles. He is trying to convince these groups that it is unhealthy long-term to limit yourself to a 100% plant-based diet. The main ideas Kim states in order to dissuade his audience from adopting vegan diets are that 100% vegan diets lead long term to the development of nutritional deficiencies and significant health problems, that the morality of vegan lifestyles are questionable, and that the organizations that promote vegan lifestyles have ulterior motives. While Kim makes a weak argument against 100%...

We thought that asking people at the gym would give us different perspectives than those who were not at the gym. Regarding time, we did not expect any highlighted differences in the responses that we accumulated in the morning and those which were accumulated in the afternoon or evening. Our hypotheses that were related to gender differences were that men would jog more than women, almost all participants would say that they drink coffee to stay alert in classes, and females would take vitamins more than males. We also generated other hypotheses like that all people at the gym would not be vegetarians, and maintain their breakfast so they can keep...
