...LSI : Life Styles Inventory MGMT591 – Dr. Hallcom 9/13/2013 The Life Styles Inventory survey, provided by Human Synergistics International, measures a person’s personal orientation toward thinking and behaving. The questions contained in the survey measure twelve styles related to the thoughts and attitudes that motivate a person’s behavior, how a person might relate to others, and how a person might problem solve and/or make decision (“What lsi measures”, 2012). Various psychologists and management scholars, i.e. Maslow, Hertzberg, etc., influenced the questions presented in the survey. The goal is to use the results to examine my strengths and those other areas that need improving. My styles profile is broken into three parts: constructive styles, passive/defensive styles, and aggressive/defensive styles (“Your lsi styles,” 2013). Of the twelve styles, my primary style is ‘achievement’ and my backup style is ‘approval’. These styles have the greatest influence on my behavior. In selecting that slice of my circumplex, the achievement style is characterized by “a focus on achieving a standard of excellence; the knowledge that individual effort counts,” and “a belief in the benefits of asking for and giving honest feedback” (“Your lsi styles,” 2013). Most of the items that comprise the achievement style manifest itself in my personal- and work-life. For example, I enjoy being busy, learning more, taking on difficult tasks and accomplishing them. I pride myself in...

...Alex Levy Mod 3 English 7/8 Ms. Herbst class College essay In my religion the people of the congregation believe that when you turn 13 and become Barmitzbad you take the step from being a child to adulthood. As much as I believe in it is not entirely true because you don’t experience life at 13. I had become a man spiritually but when I turned 18 everything became vigorous and challenging. Every thing changes from rainbows to somber in a blink of an eye. I didn’t have the same freedom as I once did. I had more responsibilities and needed to pull my weight around. You could say I was technically on my own because my parents wanted a performance on my behalf and the ability to respond to any type of problem they needed for me to solve. If I didn’t answer to them it would mean a loss of capital on my part, which hurt me on the weekends. I needed to be my parent’s solution to my parent’s problems and as time went on they wanted more and more. I was an athlete/ driver/ business man/ babysitter/ student. All this things were done on a daily basis. I wake up everyday for school at 7 and attend all my classes and work as hard as I can. When I finish school I have practice with the varsity soccer team for 2 hours. We run, play, and work relentlessly to stay in shape and become better players. After I am done with my day in school I rush to my sister school and pick her up and take her home to eat. Depending on the day if my sister is scheduled to have any after school activities...

... With new staff, that is changing. Ms Dantes is the kind of teacher students want to impress. Ms Dantes asks a question and hands shoot up. She calls on a lucky boy. Another squirms; Ms Dantes silences him with a quick look. The boy talks about Helen Keller's determination, then gets shy. Ms Dantes coaxes him on. "I feel like I'm in college", a girl says proudly. One day she may be. A teacher can have an enormous effect on a child in his classroom. No school factor—budget, class size, curriculum—is more important. But America does a horrendous job recruiting teachers. Highperforming countries select teachers carefully. In Singapore, for example, the teachertraining programme accepts about one in eight applicants. In America teachertraining programmes have a financial incentive to admit almost anyone who applies. In the old days finding good teachers was much easier. Talented women taught because they couldn't find work elsewhere. Now just 23% of new teachers rank in the top third of their academic class, according to a report from McKinsey (http://www.mckinsey.com/clientservice/Social_Sector/our_practices/Education/Knowledge_Highlights/~/media/Reports/SSO/Closing_the_talent_gap.ashx) . The share is even smaller in poor schools. The question is, how do we get better teachers in America's classrooms? Raising teacher salaries would help, but budgets are tight. One option, posited by McKinsey, would be to start by raising salaries in poor districts. Schools might also pay more money to fewer teachers—a big class...

...primary thinking style because as VP of Business Operations and Finance for our company I make many decisions each day that affect the company and the lives of each of our employees. We are a smaller private company with fifty-five employees so the decisions that myself and the other members of the management team make are critical to the success and the livelihood of our employees. I do not take our employees or their family’s financial stability lightly with the day to day decisions I am required to make. I also do not agree with the thinking style statement, “a person that has little control over their lives,” as I am a firm believer that people have control over their lives and what they choose to accomplish. I put myself through college and worked very hard to get to where I am today. I now want to grow to new levels and in order to do this I need more education, thus the MBA...

...Group Observation and Reaction Paper “Rum and Vodka” Substance Abuse Training Lenore M. Jackson HUS 340 Abstract In the art of war there is no room for making one’s own rules. Rules are set in place to ensure good discipline and order. When good discipline and order are compromised due to substance abuse, our national security is at risk. It is the mission of the Armed Forces to ensure training of all sorts is available to maintain a strong and ready force. Introduction From the time you arrive at the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), a new recruit can fathom that life in the military is going to be full of rules and regulations. It is easy to understand that rules must be followed. This is no different when one arrives at Basic Training and finally at their first duty station and beyond. It is engrained in every service member that rules are not only going to be a very prominent part of their lives, but rules are necessary for good order and mission accomplishment. Not everyone will agree with every rule, nor will every rule be easy to follow, but it will be in everyone’s best interest to follow them to the best of their ability. We must ensure our service members are ready. A ready force is a winning force. Substance abuse is one of the many issues the Armed Forces must address and combat to ensure a ready force. Each service has its own programs and policies but the premise for all are very similar. I will examine one of the programs used...
