1. Introduction:
This essay will be focusing of the supply network of checkers supermarket that is operated by the Shoprite holding Ltd is South Africa. Checkers stores target a living standard measurement of 7 to 10 which means that they are targeting people of upper income class (Shoprite Holding Ltd, 2013b). In addition, the supermarkets offer a wide range of products from fresh meat to kitchen accessories (Shoprite Holding Ltd, 2013b).They have currently 167 checkers supermarkets in South Africa. However, they are also operating in some neighbour’s countries such as Botswana and Namibia (Shoprite Holding Ltd, 2013b). Their specialized departments are the bakery, meat market, cheese and delicatessen counter and wine stores. One influential limitation encounter was their current strategy are, checkers would not tell anyone because then they would not being able to drive the competition away from their main competitors such as Pick and Pay. In order to do the assignment, a supply chain will be developed in terms of suppliers and consumers (Pycraft, Singh, Phihlela, Slack, Chambers, Johnston., 2010: 138). And then, the typology of the firm will be developed and finally a polar diagram will be established to compare checkers to a small retail organisation.
