Show Business: The Business of Show

Because my job in the performing arts is not like most other occupations it can sometimes be difficult for people to compare it to other businesses in terms of standard structure and management practice. However, it is called Show Business for a reason, and that is because it is the Business of Show. Any successful business must have a well organized management system in place, and even though it may seem different at first glance there are many standard management practices utilized in Show Business just like any other. Management organization within a company in Show Business takes planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling functions to provide a quality production and ensure audience satisfaction.
Planning
The company I work for is called ‘NETworks Presentations’, and they are a company that produces Broadway tours. NETworks required extensive planning to become one of the largest producers of Broadway tours in the United States. Planning is a systematic process in which managers make decisions about future activities and the key goals that the organization intends to pursue (Baack, Reilly, and Minnick 2014).
Further more, according to Baack et al. (2014), “business organizations are founded with a major guiding principle in mind. A company's mission statement expresses a clear and concise reason for the organization's existence (p. 2.1).” Simply put, one of the foundations of planning any successful business is creating a mission statement. For example, the mission statement of NETworks Presentations is:

The article explains that ‘stage-managed’ and real-life management presentations are treated as important devices for representing the organization and for managing the impressions of targeted audiences The publicity of such events: * Increases participants’ efforts to engage in theatrical behavior * Increases participants’ attention in big corporate events such as annual general meetings (AGMs) * Increases the effectiveness of the messages delivered in these events in a theatrical manner * Importance of theatrical-style presentations These presentations target important people for the organization: shareholders and public stakeholders, at employees, and at financial journalists and analysts; All these are important audiences in annual...

Assuming that Frantic Soda Co. does hire someone and Fuse Soda Co. does not this will result in a 20% decrease in market shares and profit revenue for your client. It is in my highest opinion that your client Fuse Soda Co. proceeds in hiring a celebrity spokesperson and reap the benefits of higher profit. If Frantic Soda proceeds to hire someone your client will still have at least a 10% gain in profit, if Frantic Soda decides not...

Econ Final: Industry Paper - Trade Show Industry

...The reason I have chosen the trade show industry for my paper is because this is the industry I will be working in after I graduate. This industry is very different from other industry because it has its hands in so many different industries. This is because trade shows are organized for industries to get together and interact. The industry I am focusing on are the companies that put on the trade shows. Along with research I am also knowledgeable about this industry because I interned last summer for a company call Reed Exhibitions which is one of the largest trade show companies world wide. Reed Exhibition is one of the large companies you will find in this market. They have a portfolio of about 500 events and trade shows in 39 different countries. This industry is mostly dominated by companies such as this one. Fashion Show

...“Fashion Show” A fashion show is an event put on by a fashion designer to showcase his or her upcoming line of clothing during Fashion Week. Fashion shows debut every season, particularly the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter seasons. This is where the latest fashion trends are made. In a typical fashion show, models walk the catwalk dressed in the clothing created by the designer. Occasionally, fashion shows take the form of installations, where the models are static, standing or sitting in a constructed environment. The order in which each model walks out wearing a specific outfit is usually planned in accordance to the statement that the designer wants to make about his or her collection. It is then up to the audience to not only try to understand what the designer is trying to say by the way the collection is being presented, but to also visually deconstruct each outfit and try to appreciate the detail and craftsmanship of every single piece. A wide range of contemporary designers tend to produce their shows as theatrical productions with elaborate sets and added elements such as live music or a variety of technological components like holograms, for example. Types of Fashion Shows 1. Ready-to-Wear Ready-to-wear shows feature more practical, down-to-earth looks that the mainstream population might want to buy. Many middle-class name brand retailers draw inspiration from the ready-to-wear looks of high-end designers, including Gucci, Prada...

Acc 290 Financial Statements Paper

...The main goal of most businesses is to gain profit and have less spending costs all together. If a business is not making money, the owner of that business really has no reason to keep that business open. It is both a waste of time and a waste of money if there is no profit to be made. Many businesses deal with money all the time but how do they really know how much profit was made at a certain point of the year or a certain time of the month. If a business cannot keep track of the money coming in and the money being spent it cannot keep track of whether it is making money or loosing money. Fortunately, we have a solution to keep track of the money our businesses are making and the money our business are spending. Our Solution to our questions about cash flow is financial statements. Financial statements can be beneficial to internal and external sources that are interested in making a business grow. There are four basic financial statements that makeup the backbone of financial accounting. These four statements are balance sheets, income statements, retained earnings statements, and statements of cash flow. A balance sheet is used to show your business’s assets, what your business owns, and the business’s liabilities, what your business owes. It can paint a picture of your business’s finances at a specific point in time. An income statement shows how successful the business was for a certain season of the year or a certain period of time. Expenses are subtracted from revenues...

...For Lucy to gain a better understanding of how well her business is doing, she could uses accounting ratios. By following these ratios, she can therefore measure the financial performance of her business. Gross Profit Percentage The first ration is Gross Profit Percentage (GPP) this ration show how much of the company’s revenue is retained as gross profit. This is shown as a percentage. If the overall percentage is a high figure, it shows Lucy is in control of purchases she is making. GPP= (Sales-Cost of Sales) / Turnover Looking at Lucy’s Profit And Loss Sheet, we can see that Sales = 150000 Cost of sales = 50000 Revenue = 100000 This means the ratio for Lucy’s Gross Profit Percentage would be £150000 - £50000 / £150000 x 100 = %25 This figure is low and this is because she is using some of her profit money to buy more stock than she needs to. Net Profit Percentage Net Profit Percentage shows the percentage of turnover after all expenses have been taken out. If the business was to have a high GPP but a low NPP, it suggests the operating costs of the business are too high as they are taking too much profit out of the business. If NPP is substantially lower than GPP, it would mean the business needs to take action to decrease their daily running costs. NPP= (Gross Profit-Expenses) / Turnover Looking at Lucy’s profit and loss, sheet we can see that Gross Profit = 100000 Expenses = 53800 Turnover = 46200 This means the ratio for Lucy’s Net Profit...

Your organizational feasibility study should include: 1. Description of Your Business Structure 2. Description of Your Organizational Structure 3. Internal and External Principles and Practices of the Business 4. Professional Skills and Resumes 1. Description of Your Business Structure This section contains a narrative description of the legal requirements for establishing your business and why you feel this is the right structure for your business. Discuss the pros and cons of different business structures. For example, a sole proprietorship leaves the sole proprietor open to both financial and legal liability risks. A high-risk business should never be set up as a sole proprietorship because it will make it difficult to attract investors as well as clients and customers. It is also the hardest and most expensive form of business to insure. If you wish to become a tax-exempt organization, you will need to incorporate, file for tax exemption with the IRS (and, in some cases, within your own state), and set up a board of directors and officers of the corporation. You will also need to decide if your organization should be a membership, or non-membership organization. 2. Organizational Structure Discuss your business’ organizational structure...

Unit 2 P7 Ratios

...Ratios I have been asked to illustrate the financial state of a given business by using ratios, to do this I will use accounting ratios to show the financial sate of Scrumptious. One of the ways a business can measure how it is doing is through ratio analysis. Ratios can help Scrumptious to see how it is doing now and how it compares to last year of the year before and against competitors. For these ratios to be useful, they should be compared over time to see if there are any trends and also compared between businesses within the same industry. I will be using the following ratios Solvency Ratios, Profitability Ratios and Efficiency Ratios, to illustrate the financial state of Scrumptious. Solvency Ratios Businesses can use ratios to work out their solvency by using current ratio and acid test ratio. These ratios allow businesses and potential investors to see how well they are able to meet their liabilities. A business is considered to be solvent when it can pay its debts as they become due. In day to day terms, this means it can pay its suppliers by having enough working capital. There are two key ratios that help business determine whether their business is showing a solvent position. Current ratio This ratio shows how many assets a business has compared to liabilities. It shows how easily it would to be paying its creditors to current ratio looks at relationship between current assets and current liabilities. These figures are always shown on the balance...

The Four Financial Statements

...to each other to show a specified amount of time. Without one of them, an accountant cannot see accurately the state of a business. Accountants are not the only people who find this information useful. Internal and external users can find the information that they need about the state of a business and its finances through these four statements. The income statement shows a broad view of how successful a business is. It shows how much the company earned in revenue and how much the company spent in expenses. By deducting the expenses from the revenue, the net income is the leftover amount. The net income is how much pure profit the company earned. This statement is important because it not only documents past and current success but also can predict future success. The retained earnings statement shows how a business pays dividends to its stockowners. If the business is profitable, the accountant takes the net income provided from the income statement and deducts the dividend from it. The net income minus the dividend is the retained earnings. It is the retained earnings that provide the most accurate portrayal of profits. If the company does not make a profit in the time posted, the dividends come from the previous time’s profits. The balance sheet is the most complex of the financial statements. The purpose of this sheet is the make sure that there are enough assets to cover the claims to assets. Assets are the resources that a business has. Claims to assets...

...EMPLOYED)*100 R.O.C.E=159.2/300*100 =53.066% Return of capital employed is when investors receive money back on their capitals. For business the results of ROCE in 2007 show that the business made a return of 53% out of 300 of capital employed. The high return of 53% shows that business has made high net profit and the business making is being profitable. This will then give the investor money on back on their capital. On the other hand in 2008 the result shows that the business made 49% out of 334 employed. This is the money they receive after net profit was taxed. This means that the higher the capital employed the less money investors would receive. They need to improve this by preserving operating profit as well as minimizing the amount of capital employed to increase ROCE FOR 2008. ROCE should be higher than the company capital employed. This is a long term ratio, which shows how effectively assets are performing while taking in thought long-term finance. Potential investors are interested in the ratio to see how efficient a business uses it capital employed and their long term financing strategies. ...Chapter I EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This study encourages the researchers to come up with the study entitled “The Restobar Industry at ______________ and ____________: An analysis” because of the fast- growing and profitable business such as restobars in the provinces. Wherein, restobar industry is essentially retailer of prepared foods, prepared drinks and its operating performance is influenced by many of the same factors that affect traditional retail stores. For the most part, restobar has business models that are relatively easy to understand. Nonetheless, there are a number of unique factors to consider when making investment decisions regarding this large and segmented industry. Competition between restobars is intense, since dining and leisurely drinking options abound. And, while there are certainly dominant players in this industry (especially among fast-food purveyors and large fast- food chains that offers to drink and dine), no one company has the market cornered. Indeed, virtually every restobar location must compete not only against other publicly traded chains, but also with a wide array of small, local establishments with a touch of marketing strategies and advance advantages. Competitors include everything from advance technology lighting, romantic atmosphere and ambiences to boldly flavored drinks to fine- dining and drinking style. Furthermore, it is relatively easy to forgo to prepared foods and drinks which is usually a less expensive option. Statement of...
