At the root of Fiesta the conflict existed in the extramarital affair of the Father in the story. This simple event expresses a complex effect within the family dynamic. Through the course of the story it’s not readily displayed that a strain is placed on the family which construes the dynamic and strains the individual relationships the family members share with one another. We find early in the course of the story that the two brothers are aware of the affair, having come into contact with the woman directly. Though they do not speak of the incident, they acknowledge that it is something which should not be spoke of. It is not until later that we see our protagonist lamenting as he feels the weight of the secret he carries. It becomes suspect during the course of the party that the extended family present is aware that something is amiss. Later in the story, our protagonist is even questioned by a family member in an attempt to secure information regarding the discourse of the family. The ending to the story seems to be concrete but the reader is left in ambiguity as to the resolution of the conflict. It’s stated just prior to the end that the mother of the protagonist senses there is something wrong, though no confession is brought to fruition our protagonist is left lamenting as to his decision to not reveal his knowledge. Thinking that to be the end of it, the reader is left to interpret their own meaning when left with these final words:
In the darkness, I saw that Papi had a hand on Mami’s knee and that the two of them were quiet and still. They weren’t slumped back or anything; they were both wide awake, buckled into their seats. I couldn’t see either of their faces and no matter how hard I tried, I could not imagine their expressions. Every now and then the van was filled with the bright rush of somebody else’s headlights. Finally I said, Mami, and they both looked back, already knowing what was happening. (Diaz/Fiesta, 1980, pg. 159)
Of course, he could have just been saying he needed to puke. I could be reading too far into it.

Ford Fiesta

...The Ford Fiesta campaign was a huge success and it met its objectives. The campaign created brand awareness, interest, and leads (50,000 consumers expressed interest in buying the car), and lowered Ford’s advertising costs. It also stimulated awareness and interest in its targeted audience group, the Millennials. In class we talked a lot about using social media to get the customers involved in the advertising process, and Ford did that by having 100 agents test out and promote the Ford Fiesta through multiple social media platforms. It was so successful because Ford’s agents engaged multiple social media sites to increase exposure and enhance customer interaction with the brand. The agents constantly updated information and communicated stories to interact with and engage social network users. The agents definitely improved the value of the Ford Fiesta through their usage of social media and changed the way other consumers perceived the brand. Ford allowed the agents to co-create value in the brand and the agents helped gain consumers trust in the Ford Fiesta. Overall, the agents were very successful since ninety-seven percent of the leads were from those who never owned a Ford before. While the campaign was very successful, it definitely could have been improved. The campaign did not seem to have a ‘core’ message since each agent was free to do what he or she wanted for the most part. A core message could have made the campaign easier to follow. Ford could have also increased...

...MKTG 301 Ford Fiesta When Ford was releasing the Ford Fiesta back into the U.S. market, it was facing a new demographic that they have not marketed to yet, Millennials. Millennials are characterized as to be born between 1979 and 1994. To further help Ford further identify who and what a Millennial is, they created Kristen. Kristen is a twenty three year old college graduate who studied journalism. Like the typical millennial, Kristen is fully intergraded into the social media construct; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram just name a few. Narrowing down the demographic, Ford can now customize the Fiesta to fit the lifestyle of Kristen. The next macro environmental factor that Ford looked at was culture. Ford figured that Kristen, being a recent college grad, would move to an urban environment. The two main focuses of Kristen are fuel economy and the ease of parking in a city. Equipping the Ford Fiesta with a 1.6L 16 valve motor with 29 miles per gallon in the city and 39 miles per gallon on the highway (Ford Motor Company, 2012) makes it a perfect for Kristen. And at 160.1 inches long for the hatchback model (Ford Motor Company), it further compliments itself to city driving and Kristen’s needs. The ability to squeeze into tight parking spots is a premium in such a city like New York. Ford had to be careful when deciding on what options they would put in the Ford Fiesta. The Millennial is budget conscious but likes the finer things in life. With that, Ford opted...

France Wine

...France has its wine. Germany has its beer. Eastern Europe has its vodka; And Puerto Rico has its rum. Puerto Rico is famous for many things but it is probably best known for producing some of the world’s finest rums. Not lightly do they call this small island the rum capital of the world. Over 80 percent of the rum sold in the U.S. comes from Puerto Rico; it's the island's chief export. Puerto Ricans do not take it for granted that they live on an island that produces high-quality product, and they consume it without prejudice. It’s not a stretch to consider it an intrinsic part of the culture - and of the Caribbean’s as a whole - as much as wine is part of the French way of life, or vodka in Eastern Europe. Rum serves as a link to the past, both the mythical and the real; from the decks of pirate ships to the sugarcane fields of the centrals azucareras Rum is a staple in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is the biggest producer of rum in the world. The list of rums, from mixers to delicate liquid gold that rivals the world's finest brandies, include familiar names like Bacardi, Palo Viejo, Don Q, Ron Llave, Licor 43, and El Barrilito. Rum is such a part of Puerto Rico that there is a festival called Taste of Rum festival dedicated solely to Rum which is held annually. Since I can’t afford to take everyone to the festival as part of my presentation what I could afford to do was make some Coquito, a popular coconut and rum beverage traditionally served around the holidays throughout Puerto...

...Launch of the Ford Fiesta Diesel: The World's Most Efficient Car In this case, the issue is that Ford launched an engine that use Diesel, the car itself has many potentials (lowest CO2) and follows all emission‘s standards and regulations. It encounter a positive reaction in Europe (Bestselling in Britain and sales has gone up by 40% the previous year) and Asia but it is not the case in the USA. Indeed, consumers still have a bad image of Diesel, in their mind Diesel is noisy, smelly and smoky. This bad perception of the fuel negatively affected the sales of one of the most fuel efficient car especially during an essential economic deterioration. Therefore Ford decided not to launch the car in the USA, but they argue that it it’s due to the cost of exporting from Europe but also the uncertain demand. Ford and also other carmakers are facing some challenges due to the elusive price of fuel but also the oil decline. Ford is mostly affected by people’s perception of Diesel, but the fuel represent 50% of sales in Europe due to its expensive price. Concepts of Business

...mean in my understanding of them, as well as describe how one of the Fortune 500 Companies of 2009 fit into these four components of business. Business, business to me is a company that buys, sells, makes, or provides services to products for an exchange of monies. Basically they make things, buys things, sell things, or fix things in the efforts to yield a profit. I decided to use Ford Motor Company (Ford) for my Fortune 500 Company to give a description of its organization. Ford fits into my definition of what a business is very easily. They are a manufacturing company, making several different products from Large Trucks like dump trucks and box trucks or what they label as a commercial vehicle, to small economy cars like the Ford Fiesta. So just by that alone Ford is a business as per the definition I gave earlier. The make a product to sell to the consumers, as well as products to service their products for the consumers and they do all this for the opportunity to make a tremendous revenue or profit, which profit just happens to be the second of the four components of business. (Cable News Network A Time Warner Company, 2009) Profit is simply this, gaining more money in revenue when selling something then the cost to make or sell it. Another way to look at profit is as an excess of income compared to operational costs. If you don’t make a profit you and your business will not survive let alone strive in the market place. Over the last few years with the way our economy...

...This past week, I read three social media case studies on Lady Gaga, the Ford Fiesta Movement, and the Greenpeace protests against Nestle` in the palm oil controversy. After reading “Lady Gaga: Born this way?” I was impressed by her utilization of social media to successfully interact with her fans. Her passion for her time-consuming work and building a following on social media took over many aspects of her personal life, prohibiting her from being able to own a home or even have a boyfriend. Growing up, Lady Gaga took full advantage of her privileged upbringing by receiving the best education and seizing opportunities that supported her musical talents. Once she was discovered, she actively built her image as an artist through the Internet and social media. Her success was attributable to connecting and interacting with her fans through websites such as You Tube, Facebook, and Twitter. She was able to build a bond with her fans that has not been matched by any other musician or artist. I was intrigued by her success outside of the music industry that seemed directly related to the social footprint that she built for herself. The case study talks about the “360 deal,” where music companies now share a portion of revenues from all aspects of an artist’s business. While I believe this to be a great business model for the music industry, and Lady Gaga has been tremendously successful in this model, I think it is premature to imply that her reinvigoration of outside brands...
