...of the gift of sex from God The Gift of Sex: A Guide to Sexual Fulfillment A Student’s Critique Jeffery T. Treadaway Liberty University Abstract It will be the intent and purpose of this dialog to five the student’s perspective and interpretation of the textbook: The Gift of Sex: A Guideline to Sexual Fulfillment (Penner & Penner, 2003). Discussed will be the topics of sexuality as a gift from God and what the Bible says about sexuality and the role of sex within the marriage. The topic of the physical dimensions will also be explored to include our bodies and discovering and sharing of our body, as well as, how our bodies work and the sexual responses. We will also discuss the experience of our sexuality and methods to explore and meet our and our partner’s sexual needs and desires. An exploration of the topic of sexual dysfunction will also be addressed and the methods of dealing with these issues. Lastly we will discuss the methods by which one may enhance their sexual experience to make it more meaningful and pleasurable. One’s sexuality and desire for intimacy is a gift from God and it is to be treated as such in accordance with God’s guidelines and laws. The Bible tells us in Genesis 1 27-28: “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number”. (Holy Bible, NIV, 2003). The textbook: The Gift of Sex: A Guideline...

...in private. Masturbation is only the “manipulation of the genital organs for pleasure, usually to orgasm… [also known as] self-manipulation, but it can also be used to describe manipulation of or by a sexual partner, exclusive of sexual intercourse”, people speak of it as if it is a secret(“Masturbation” Encyclopedia). ‘Why?’ the question some people may wonder. It is because masturbation is an immoral act. Masturbation is an immoral act because it denies a chaste life and gives a false sense of what sex is about. Masturbation also leaves a feeling of emptiness leading to actual sex or chronic masturbation. Masturbation denies a chaste life that was meant to be saved for both God and spouse for after marriage. It denies this chaste life because a chase life is “having the strength to use your sexuality according to God’s plan… [doing this] glorifies God with your body” (Evert 17). God gave everyone the gift of virginity to be shared with another who will also share their own gift of virginity. This was the original plan God had in mind, and whenever God’s plan is carried out it makes Him happy. Others may argue that “the Bible does not actually address masturbation directly… that much of the religious opposition to masturbation is based on an interpretation of a biblical passage about a man named Onan who used the withdrawal method to prevent pregnancy… [Realistically, masturbation is] really just a matter of personal conviction, as there is no scientific evidence that masturbation...

...Evolutionary Interpretation of Gift-giving Behavior in Modern Norwegian Society Iver Mysterud, Department of Biology, University of Oslo, P.O. Box 1066 Blindern, NO-0316 Oslo, Norway. Box 1086 Blindern, NO-0317 Oslo, Norway) Tore Slagsvold, Department of Biology, University of Oslo, P.O. Box 1066 Blindern, NO-0316 Oslo, Norway Abstract: We have studied gift giving at Christmas among 50 graduate students in Norway. The students invested more the closer the coefficient of relatedness. However, partners ranked highest, which is natural for people at the start of their reproductive career. All students gave to their parents, siblings, and children, most gave to their grandparents, and only a third gave to some, but not all, of their genetic aunts/uncles. Twenty percent gave to first cousins, and none to second or third cousins. Similar patterns for gifts received were found. There were also sex differences (e.g. women had larger exchange networks than men), and birth order effects. Firstborns spent more on relatives than laterborns. However, middleborns gave more to their male friends than both firstborns and lastborns. We conclude that the results are consistent with theories of kin selection, reciprocity, sex differences and birth order effects. Keywords: gift giving, kin selection...

...to this. The Bible has an abundant amount of wisdom to speak to the subject of sex and the Penner’s do quite well to explore this at depth. They begin with the encouraging truth supported by the book title itself, that sex is a gift from God. Giving support to this encouragement, the Penner’s communicate that God places value not only on the sexuality of the individual, but also on the sexual relationship within marriage, elevating it to a high view worthy of being cherished (Penner & Penner, 2003, p. 19). The Penner’s remind the reader that sex was created by God, and that humankind is made in God’s image,...

...better listening skills. Many times when a person believes he or she is listening, most of the time the person is day dreaming or thinking about something else than what the person is actually trying to say. A person listening might not be paying attention to non verbal cues, which would help portray the message better. In this video a married man and women are trying to celebrate their anniversary. The husband comes home with a some beautiful jewelry for his wife, and the wife is ecstatic. When the wife tries to give her husband her gift that she got him he misinterpreted it, and that is where the communication failure begun. There were several cues that went wrong in this video. One cue is before she brought out the baby sitter the wife was telling her husband that she has been saving up for this for awhile now, and she is really excited that she can finally give her husband what he wants. She then explains to him about how their sex life has went down hill ever since they had kids. After all this building up and she brings out the baby sitter, and the husband believes that his wife bought him a hooker to have a threesome. There were also misleading non verbal cues in this video. When the wife told the baby sitter to come out, the baby sitter had a sexier than normal outfit on with her belly showing and low cut jeans. The wife did not realize that her husband was thinking in a totally different way than what she was thinking. The listening habits of both...

...Estate Planning for Same Sex Couples I. Introduction The benefits of marriage are unavailable to same-sex couples. Moreover, outdated intestacy statutes fail to recognize the close family bond between same-sex partners. Moreover, most intestacy laws discriminate against same-sex couples in that gay or lesbian relationships are generally considered invalid for the purposes of distributing the estate of a deceased partner who dies without a will. Accordingly, in order to reap inheritance and tax benefits that are automatically afforded to traditional married couples, these same-sex couples must rely on extensive and creative legal planning. There are several tools that provide solutions to this issue. Contract based estate planning techniques are the most commonly used tools for distributing a decedent’s property at death. Though the following planning mechanisms provide certain advantages, they are also accompanied by various disadvantages. II. Wills A will is an instrument by which a person directs dispositions of property to take effect upon death. It is the only document that allows a decedent’s probate assets to pass testate to persons of his or her choosing as opposed to passing via the strict laws of intestacy, under which the surviving partner would receive nothing. Even in the presence of strategies used to avoid probate such as intervivos trusts, wills are an essential precautionary measure to demonstrate the intent to pass property outside of probate, to...

...For the five love languages quiz I scored a nine in acts of service and in quality time. I scored an eight in words of affirmation, a three in physical touch, and a one in receiving gifts. I feel that these results definitely match up with my own personal love language. One way in which they match up is my score of receiving gifts, in my family or in my love relationships gifts were never a big part of the relationship and receiving gifts did not make me love the person more. Another way is through the physical touch score of three, I have never been a touchy feely person in any of my past relationships. However, I do like some touch and to hold my boyfriend’s hand when we’re walking or for him to give me a kiss on the check in public. I was...

...After observing and analyzing what I have seen, I can say that Christ Church has a Pro-Choice view of the world. Takes this term from Kristin Luker who wrote the article “World Views of the Activist” where in her article she discuss the different views, beliefs, and meanings that pro-life and pro-choice activist have when it comes topics such as gender roles, parenthood and most important abortion. And when it comes to pro-choice activist and their view on sex, Luker states in her article that Pro-choice activist see sex more than just producing children and it more about the pleasure, the human contract and most important the intimacy. She furthermore and says, “Despite the claims of some pro-life people, pro-choice people do believe that sex can be sacred but it is a different kind of sacredness that they have in mind…. It can be achieved only when people feel secure, when they feel trusting, and when they feel love for themselves and for the other” (Luker...

...different things together depending upon interests and preferences. The time spent together determines whether the pair will continue to see each other and further establish their relationship or end things and date someone else with whom they might feel a stronger connection. This research intends to question the differences in the practices of dating between gender, race and socioeconomic status and why these differences persist. Is it just the societal norms that further reinforce these practices or is it because of other factors, which tie in to gender roles, cultural values, or social class status. Throughout the research there were similar ideas of social norms that are accepted when one is dating. The most common ones appeared to be gift giving, meeting each other’s family, dressing up and going out, and labeling the relationship when asked. These are all considered important moments that signify to society that two people are in a relationship. As far as genders go the results when looking into dating habits seemed...

...In the book Walk the Blue Fields by Claire Keegan, there is a common theme amongst the stories of “The Parting Gift”, “Dark Horses”, and “Walk the Blue FIelds. All these stories take place in the late 20th century Ireland and feature characters and stories that are melancholy and depressing. They all have a common theme of loneliness hindering success where the the girl in “The Parting Gift” is both scared of moving away and staying home, Brady in “Dark Horses” no longer being able to do simple tasks effectively, and In “The Parting Gift”, the main character is a young girl who is set to move to America from Ireland. For financial reasons, she was forced to drop out of school and move away for a greater opportunity. But, it isn’t this simple. This is also an attempt to escape Ireland from her family troubles. ...of a new kind of novel and short story that expressed ideas about subjects that were normally taboo or avoided in this society. A year before his death in 1896, Henry Cuyler Bunner wrote the short story “Our Aromatic Uncle” which presents an unreliable narrator and very strong allusions to same-sex love . This essay will analyze the homosexual subtext in Bunner’s short story. This text will explore how the phrase popularized by Oscar Wild “the love that dares not speak its name” express itself as well as on what and how same-sex love is displaced in the short story. To analyze the homosexual subtext, this essay will also examine what discrepancies can be observed in Bunner’s story and how they lead the reader to question the reliability of the narrator. First of all, the short story, written by Bunner in 1895, presents the story of a judge’s son and a butcher-boy who leave the United States to go to China. The only contact David, the judge’s son, has had with his family is short and brief letters that he sent few times per year along with some gifts that had all a particular aroma prior to his death. However, further in the story we can realize that the letters as well as the gifts have not been sent by David but by the butcher-boy, Tommy Biggs. This aspect brings the reader to some interrogations regarding the actual relation between David and Tommy. We can read in Bunner’s story that “the butcher-boy worshipped him with the deepest and most fervent adoration” (203). By...

...For the love of grade, I said yes to volunteering. Had it not been given as an opportunity for Theology Class incentives, I wouldn't have attended. Well, as far as I can honestly remember that's how my attitude to this event was. I didn't know anything about Evert and I got no romance issues. All I know then was that Catalyst has been organizing a part of this love talk series and that I had a bitter loveless February. And because the only preparation I got for this big event was the orientation for the volunteers (which were only of logistics and ushering/crowd control instructions), I did not know what to expect of the talk. It turned out though, I'd thanked that cold shrug. I appreciated my self not peeping through trailers and coming there with nothing but my self as an usher. Why so? I was rewarded with an experience and a not-so-fresh-message good as new! Contrary to what was the common notion of talks where everyone seems to make the 15-min attention span rule as an excuse, the talk was farthest from boring. In fact, I had lost track of time. Everyone was like 'It's done? That's it?' by the unanticipated end. I guess none even looked at his watch because all were glued on their seats – ears and eyes to Jason and his fun and lively speech. That was about more than 2 hours. Kudos to us attentive crowd yet more salute to Jason who kept more than 7,000 people locked on and with minds open to a highly sensitive issue. So what was so interesting of this Chastity talk? ...

...With sensuous advertising, provocative PG 13 movies and risqué clothing teenage girls are bombarded with the idea that it’s okay to look sexy, feel sexy and have unrestricted fun. Since the intent of persuasive advertising is to get the viewers to take a specific course of action, think a certain way or to change their beliefs about something, gullible teenage girls could be influenced to look, live, dress and behave in an exaggerated sensuous manner. In some cases the teen may enter into a world of sexual fantasy until it becomes a reality for her. Collins, Elliott, Berry, Kanouse, Kunkel, Hunter, and Miu (2004) in a research about the effects of adolescents watching sex on television found that adolescents who watch large amounts of television containing sexual content are twice as likely to begin engaging in sexual intercourse in the following year than their peers who watch little such TV. Even adults are influenced by what they see and hear and will sometimes crave the experience portrayed in an Ad or movie. Sensuous dressing and sexually appealing conduct will excite young boys and unrestrained adult males, making them want to have...

...used against women, which is why I think it is such a huge topic as well. Many women today feel they are the only ones who are criticized for their sexual behavior and often called sluts for it. One thing the world tells us today is that if women are involved in numerous sexual encounters or behaviors then they are considered to be sluts. Men, on the other hand, are often praised for or encouraged to have as many sexual encounters as possible. Men are high-fived for “hooking up” with a girl, while girls are called sluts for “hooking up” with guys. This is what the world tells us today. This is why slut shaming is often focused more on women. It is sad to me that this is what the world tells us. I grew up in a household believing sex is meant to be with one person within marriage. I also grew up believing and still believe that if someone breaks that then we are to love those people anyways. Slut shaming cannot only hurt someone’s self-esteem, but it can also hurt their physical and mental health. We hear stories everyday about people falling into depression and harming themselves because of slut shaming. I do not understand why women are considered sluts for having multiple sexual encounters and guys are high fived for it. In my opinion, men are meant to lead the women, and I think this is one way how we are failing at that miserably. Taking advantage of girls and then calling them sluts for it is something that makes me sick to my...
