Nursing is consistently named one of the most trusted professions, year after year. Nursing is the profession or practice of providing care for the sick and infirm. This profession has evolved tremendously in the past century from the methods practiced to even the technology used. Many students enter these programs based on their personal expectation they have for their possible career. There are many aspects that promote nursing as a great career for individuals such as: the high demand needed for nurses, the servitude a nurse will provide, and the variability of roles in nursing.

Playing a direct role in life’s most meaningful moments is emotionally rewarding. Nurses are able to use their training and compassion to make a significant change in a patient's life and well-being. Nursing fulfills that desire to want to help and care for people. In the role of a caregiver, nursing “includes those activities that assist the client physically and psychologically while preserving the client’s dignity,” (Kozier, p 13). This is done one patient at a time. This is the particularly most satisfying part of nursing. In this profession, an individual will find that the benefits outweigh any of the challenges. A handful of nurses interviewed by Deborah D’Avolio, PhD, ACNP, ANP, an Associate Professor at Northeastern University’s Bouve College of Health Sciences School of Nursing, had made statements such as, “Although it requires commitment and dedication (and sometimes sweat and tears), nursing is one of the most rewarding professions.” D’Avolio even commented herself saying, “Nurses are helping patients and families during their intimate times of need, such an amazing career…whether helping to deliver a new life into the world or providing expert end of life care as someone transitions to their last phase…it is diverse, exciting and always evolving,” (Why).
