...that we need to have prayer. There are many reasons that we why prayer should be back in schools, as the Declaration of Independence states that "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by God with certain unalienable rights..." (10 reason). ¨Indeed, it speaks of God, creations, God-given moral rights, the providence of God, and a final Day of Judgment - all of which are religious teachings. Indeed, the Supreme Court affirmed (Zorach, 1952) that We are a religious people whose institutions presuppose a Supreme Being. And school prayer has been an important part of...

...I have a lot of things that have changed my life. There are some that are good and there are some that are bad. I would not change any of them because they are the reason that I am who I am today. They are also the reasons that I decided to get back in school. The reasons are to make a better life for myself and my loved ones; to set an example that it is never too late to go back to school, and to meet new types of people. I decided to go back to school to make a better life for myself and my loved ones. To get a decent paying job now days, you must have some form of higher education. I have done some shady things in my past and now I am trying to do it the right way for my loved ones. Without my help, my loved ones would struggle to make ends meet and I do not want them to struggle. This way they do not struggle as bad and once I get my degree they will not struggle at all. Another reason I decided to go back to school is to set an example that it is never too late to go back to school. The younger generations think that once you reach a certain age that it is too late to do anything productive with your life. They are asking me why I went back to school and I tell them to better myself. I am proving to them and setting an example at the same time that it is never too late. I am proud to show them that if I can do it that they can do it also. The last reason I decided to go back to school is to meet new types of people. Like I said before I have done some shady things...

...Returning to School Alicia M. McGee ENG121: English Composition I (ABC1201G) Instructor: Allorah Wyman January 24, 2012 Returning to School There are so many reasons on why I returned to school that I don’t even know where to being. Or could it be the fact that I had a hard time when it came to graduating from high school and maybe I’m here to prove my family wrong. Maybe it my kids and wanting a better life for them then I had for myself. Or it could be the fact that I just want to be here. There are many reasons why I should be here. Returning to school was something that took a while for me to decide to do. Mainly because I said that after all I went through to leave high school that I wasn’t going back to school. I had to do night school, summer school, American school that’s where they mail you the work and you mail it back. And even went back to do a half semester the following year. So once I went through all that I said I was done with school. I was happy I did it, but it was all just a little much to be going through for a simple piece of paper. But after years of doing nothing and having a child I knew that I wanted to be something if not for me for her. Growing up I was looking for a role model and for some reason I just couldn’t find it. And then it felt like no time ever seem to be the right time and there was always a reason to put it off until the next time. Then having another child just made me come up with every other reason why I should do it...

...What's any grown ups first reason for why they went back to school? They wanted to get a good job, so they can make more money. Study shows that the more education you have, the more money you could potentially earn. Being the mother of five kids,I definitely needed the money. Money was one reason for my decision to go back to school. When I was younger, I had dreams as well. I wanted to be something every other day. It went from being a super hero, being a fashion designer, and finally a lawyer. I wanted to be the first lady astronaut to walk on the moon, A firefighter .My dreams were endless. It seemed like the more I grew up, the more time was running out (well in my eyes it was). All of my hopes and dreams came down. I had kids. I thought "ah man, I'm young, I've got kids, I cant keep going to school, I have a family I have to support." So yes, I dropped out of school not caring for anything but my kids. Me just thinking that since I had kids, There’s no way I could have a steady life of my own. Soon I had gotten a job working at McDonald. With the simple mentality of my family being more important (forgetting that school was even an option). As time progressed and soon passed by, my children now reaching the questioning and curious ages of their lives, "mom, why didn’t you finish school and get your high school diploma?" was soon asked almost everyday. Me thinking oh well they'll understand, their old enough, "I was young and I had kids, I had to support my kids," just...

...decision that I made to go back to school was because my mom graduated and got her degree, to get my own degree, and for career advancement. When my mom got out of the Navy for serving her country for 20 years, she went back to school to finish up her degree. Seeing her being focused, going to school when she got off of work, or when we got home from church, she would be right there on the computer, doing homework or in the book studying for her exams. When I went to her graduation and saw her walk on stage to receive her bachelor’s degree, I was very proud and excited. Now she’s working on getting her master’s degree. Seeing my mom accomplish so much in life made me go back to school and get my own degree so I can feel like I accomplished something out of life too. Another reason that I decided to go back to college was to get my degree. I’ve been in school for six years and have nothing to prove for it. I’m in school to get my bachelor’s degree so I can feel proud of myself and show the world what I have accomplished. Getting my degree is very important because now jobs are looking for people who have their degrees. Finally, another reason I’m going back to school is career advancement. I want to be able to get a better high paying job, so I don’t have to work paycheck to paycheck. I want a career that I love to do and not be stressed out all the time figuring out how I’m going to pay my bill, or will I have enough money to buy groceries. Deciding to go back to school was important...

...based off of historical events. Keywords: Education Education in the late 1970’s For my oral history interview I chose to interview my soon to be father in-law about his experience in the late 70’s. The reason I decided to interview him was because he had attended Dominican University back when it was Rosary College and I figured it would be great to see how different the school is now vs back then. During my interview I got to know a lot more about the person I was interviewing as well as their experience in school and the overall experience to education in the 70s’. Throughout this interview I’ve come to notice a couple of things that really stood out to me and one of those would the diversity of students in the 70’s was lacking, although segregation ended it was like there was still and unwritten form of one. Another thing that caught my attention was the advanced in technology from the 70’s to today, it may not seem like much but when compared to how that applies and effects the education systems it’s a big deal. And lastly, I’ll be talking about is the differences in education and how drastic events have changed our education system. Diversity 1 When I started my interview I couldn’t think of many questions to ask, I kept getting stuck on general questions such as “where did you attend?” “What was your major?” and when I would think about Dominican I wanted to know what would be...

...How many people do you know that have went to college and can honestly say that they are still working in general to graduate? Personally, there are not many people that I know who have graduated from a college which is why we see most people going back to school after so many years. There can be many reasons why a person does not finish school the first time around. May it be because of money issues, their interest were elsewhere at the time, a change in career directed their focus elsewhere, but whatever that may be it happens more than we would like to think. I just so happen to fall into this category of people going back to school after I had been once before but never finished. Throughout this essay I will inform readers on why I am returning back to school, my purpose behind it all, obstacles that have gotten in my way because I am returning and my ambitions that drove me to even consider going back to school. There are many reasons that I am going back to school. One main reason that I am going back to school is because I needed to further my education in order to receive an Associate’s degree in early childhood development. By pursuing to earn this degree I will be that much closer in achieving my long term goal of becoming a day care owner. When I complete this long term goal I will be able to give back to my community where the people in the community can receive employment close to...

...Four years ago, the thought of ever going back to college was something I thought I would never consider again. Actually, even six months ago, I would have laughed at the idea of going back. However, life is a funny thing, and people say, "never say never," for a reason. In order to understand why I thought, there is no way in hell I am ever going back to college, I need to backtrack to a few years ago. When I was eighteen, I thought I had it all figured out. I had just moved to Grand Valley State University to pursue a Biomedical Science Degree. It was my first semester there and in the beginning, I was excited. I was going to be a doctor, but I am sure that was only my dream because I watched too much Grey's Anatomy episodes back then. I quickly learned that watching Patrick Dempsey on Thursday nights pretending to be a doctor was way more intriguing to me than actually studying to become a doctor....

...f your parents are like mine, then you should already know the phrase “back in the day”. My parents say this phrase all of the time. Especially when me or my brother gets into trouble. For instance, every weekend I either hang out around the house or go out with friends. One time my parents were telling my brother and I about their childhood, saying that every weekend they would clean the house and on Sundays they would go to church. I’m pretty sure every parent has said something about their childhood to their children as a lesson for the child to learn. Child behavior today is worse than it was 20 years ago or back in the day. One reason supporting my opinion statement is new technology and social media. I feel like the new technologies today are devastating the new generation of children. 76% of students say that they use social media 2 hours a day (Hatch 26). In 1996, 70% of parents purchased educational software for children (NAEYC 3). All of the different computers and social medias today weren’t even thought of back in the day....

...the world market. I am if the firm view that the success if each and every country should be judged based on the quality of education and the educational system that prevails in that country. The first democratic president of South Africa once said in his famous speeches: “education is the most powerful tool we can use to change the world”. Education serves as a primary back-bone for every developed and developing country. In essence, education plays a very fundamental role in addressing the country’s socio economic issues. With the number of policies and school’s act having been introduced and implemented in the new democratic dispensation in South African post 1994, the education sector of South Africa has taken a major shift away from the apartheid education system. Many teachers start off teaching learners through formal learning and when learners’ battle or struggle, corporal punishment is used by teachers. Children should be treated as children not as adults. Mkhize (2000) maintains that “primary learning for young children in school comes not through direct teaching, but with social and intellectual interactions both with the teachers and the children’s social allies”. For example, during the times when I was still in primary school, the grade 6 teacher conducted direct teaching to learners and if they fail to understand, corporal punishment was an order of the day One major noticeable shift was that of banning or abolishing corporal punishment in schools. According to chapter...

...Final paper A huge issue that the United States has is the High School education system. Students have little or no preparation for life after high school compared to other nations which poses a disadvantage when trying to further their education. The United States is one of or the most powerful countries but continually flows short in the educational system. One of the major issues is the lack of the arts within the academic system. They focus today is typically how to take an exam. For example, Florida focuses so much on the FCAT that they typically focus only on English and Math. High Schools keep using this “Teaching to the Test “technique, which only teaches students how to prepare for the FCAT and this narrows the curriculum a lot. This issue leads to the question, “Is the Geography and Math knowledge of an American student as good as European student?” Every year a test is given to every student in High School. This test has basic questions about Geography and it measures the level of every student within their grade. Back in 2010 after collecting back the test from students and grading it, the National Assessment of Education Progress publicized that only a 25% of American schoolchildren passed the test and that only a 20% of 12th graders passed. This is probably one the saddest news America had to deal with when speaking of education. After the news was published to the public, Daniel Edelson, vice president for education with the National Geographic Society...

...Why BSN? Returning back to school to complete a BSN is often the last thing many nurses would consider. Why would anyone want to do this? How do I come up with the money? Who will take care of my family? How do I manage with my kids? These are few of many questions what will raise when thinking about going back to school. There are three main reasons why I choose to go back to school to obtain my bachelor of science in nursing. For me it has never been a question not to continue advancing my education. When I finished my ADN (associates degree in nursing) I always dreamt about one day getting my bachelors degree and I have never given up on this goal. There are many reasons why I want to complete my degree. First and the fastest approaching reason is to secure my job and give myself option to practice in different states. Second is being able to continue advancing my education along with evolving myself. Job security is very important to me. In some hospitals it is already a requirement to have a BSN in order to get hired. When I got my job, I signed a letter that I will get my degree within five years of employment. Also having completed the BSN it gives me greater job mobility, increased salary and more job opportunities. It is a stepping stone closer to NP (nurse practitioner) and a future requirement to improve healthcare quality. I have always enjoyed learning new things. I feel that I am missing out if I am not taking a class or reading up on unfamiliar subjects...
