Is the education system working for everyone or just a select few? Is the system that is in place only working for the up class and singling out minorities? The educational system can have its flaws in the learning outcome of students that come from lower income families and neighborhoods. After researching some information on the problems of the American Dream and the issues of the reasons to the outcome of the future of the educational system. In the article From Linda Darling-Hammond “Unequal Opportunity: Race and Education”. discusses about the problems of the educational system that students face in the United states and the causes that make this happen in the prosses of learning. Sometimes a problem can be when students don’t get the …show more content…
In the book by Putnam, gives the problems and the solutions to the American dream in in Crisis. The problem is that students don’t get the fairness and equal opportunity to the learning prosses of the educational system. I will share some ways that the school system is not equal and not having equal opportunity for success because of social class and segregating minorities from the full benefiters of the school learning environment. I will share contributing factors to ways to combat this and to take control of our education system for a better learning opportunities but to also show how students can learn and move forward for the better.
Not having equal opportunity is a problem that can manifest other problems as time goes on. It is only fair and right to give the same teachings styles and curriculums that others get from higher end schools. These kinds of problems can be seen in the future of the students’ jobs of choice. For example, if students don’t get a good education, students will end up with some kind of low end minimum wage job or a job that is not desirable. Equal funding can play a significant role in the learning process for a good learning outcome of students in school. I can relate to this when I was younger in high school that was very minority dominated. I was looking in to careers that I may have an interest to get in too. So, I ask my teacher that I was interested in becoming a EMT Emergency Medical Technician and that I would like to get more information about the filed. She then sent me out to see a school career counselor on campus. As I talk to the counselor about the career that I would like to get into and shadow, I was told that this is not something that cannot be arranged due to lack of funding by the state government. The career choice that the counselor said that were available were very limited and more labor ready jobs then careers. The list of careers that the counselor showed me were forklift training, serve safe food handlers certification, home building and contracting. Also, there were not enough career guidance counselors to help every student on campus due to lack of funding for the educational system to have a bigger staff for students on campus. From the book by Putnam writes, how students have a crosscurrent of economics, family and school influence of students and the outcome of their opportunities to a better education (138).
