...Drinking and driving has been a highly debated issue over the last three decades. It has caused frenzy among alcohol licensee holders, alcohol consumers, legislation, and victims of alcohol related deaths. There have been many deaths caused by alcohol impaired individuals that could have been prevented, if there was certain legislation in place at particular times in history. Even though there are still a staggering number of fatalities caused as a result of alcohol and impaired driving, the numbers have decreased exponentially since its awareness has been made public and stricter legislation has been enacted. The activist group or movement organization that I decided to discuss on is the widely known and respected MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) organization. The organization’s purpose and aim is to aid the victims of crimes performed by individuals driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to aid the families of such victims and to increase public awareness of the problem of drinking and drugged driving (MADD, 2010). This organization has been around for 30 years and its founder, Candy Lightner, is a victim of repeated occurrences with impaired drivers. On May 3, 1980 Cari, Lightner’s 13 year old daughter, was walking down the street in a quiet suburb of California when she was hit from behind by a man named Clarence Bush. Cari was hit so hard that she was thrown over 100 feet and which the impact from both the car and the ground ended her life. Reports indicated...

...Introduction to Homeland Security CJUS254-1602B-01 Connor Tibbetts 6/15/16 Unit 5 – Individual Project The Department of Homeland Security is one of the most important departments in our federal government. It is largely responsible for ensuring that the United States as a country is kept safe from harm, whether through natural or terrorist events. However, even a department as large as the DHS is unable to fully protect the homeland from every threat possible. There is no way to always cover every avenue for potential threat to the U.S. To combat this unfortunate reality, the DHS relies on help from private enterprise. The DHS includes an office, known as the Office of Policy, which includes the Private Sector Office as one of its sub-departments. The Private Sector Office provides the Secretary and Department leaders with advice on issues relevant to the private sector, including academia, non-profits, NGOs, and businesses (dhs.gov). In addition, the PSO helps create and foster strategic communications with the private sector to enhance the primary mission of the Department to protect the American homeland (dhs.gov). This paper will explain the involvement of the Department of Homeland Security with private enterprise via the PSO, explain why this involvement is crucial to the mission, and explain how the DHS uses private enterprise in the protection of critical infrastructure and key resources. This paper will also give examples of programs that address governments...

...Running head: THE BENEFITS OF RECYCLING 1 The Benefits of Recycling AIU Online THE BENEFITS OF RECYCLING 2 Introduction Is recycling beneficial? Yes. Here are some reasons why recycling is beneficial. Recycling is the process that takes used materials and turns them into new products. First of all, this process reduces the amount of waste in the landfills which helps the environment. This would help with using the land for other beneficial reasons and also reduce the pollution risks of our environment. There is already too much land that has been taken over by these landfills. Secondly, recycling also promotes environmental awareness. It’s important to be aware of what the waste is doing to our environment. We wouldn’t want our generations to live in an unhealthy environment. We need to show the future that reusing materials saves energy, provides resources and can also provide more job opportunities. Third of all, recycling will also help with the economical aspect by providing job opportunities, reducing the cost of waste disposal and also providing more land for other beneficial resources. This would be a great benefit for people who cannot find jobs. The environmental, political, and economical situations would all benefit from the recycling industry. THE BENEFITS...

...MGMT350 - Unit 5 Individual Project American Intercontinental University January 3, 2012 How to have a successful interview Introduction (the intent and purpose of the paper) An interview is the most important element in the job searching process. When an employer contacts you for an interview, they are indicating that they are interested in bringing you on board. Employers hire by personality, confidence, enthusiasm, positive outlook on things, and whether or not someone has good interpersonal and communication skills. Identifying 5 general (common) questions you believe will likely be asked by most interviewers. After each question prepare a “response” for each question addressing how you personally would address each question (be detailed and thorough in your replies): • Question #1 – What do you expect to be doing in 5 years time? o My personal response to that question: 5 years from now, I would like to see myself in an executive position at Allina Hospital. ...Grade Received, "A" Healthcare Scenario Regarding Asthma 1. Do you think this girl is receiving adequate care? I do not think she is receiving adequate care. If she was getting adequate care, the E.R. would have put her on a preventative asthma medication. This would control the present, nerve-wracking symptoms. Being that her mother and father can’t purchase health insurance, she is not receiving adequate care. 2. Should she be able to see a primary-care physician before her condition gets so acute that she must visit the E.R.? Yes, she should have been able to see her PCP before her condition got so bad that she had to go to the hospital. The PCP can help her to understand what triggers her attacks, how to stay clear of those triggers, and give her a possible treatment/action plan. If she could get in to see a PCP, he/she will give the girl medication explain the medication, as well as how to take it. Also, if she were to see a PCP, she could let the PCP be aware of any changes in her symptoms. She will also be able to talk about any side-effects of her medications with the PCP. If the girl had a PCP, she more than likely would not end up in the E.R. as frequently. 3. Should everyone be entitled to a basic minimum of healthcare or to the exact same healthcare? Yes, I feel everyone should be entitled to a basic minimum of healthcare due to the fact that basic minimum healthcare is essential. If an individual doesn’t have basic minimum healthcare, that individual...

...Unit 5 project 1: pollution, labor and public goods Research on coal burning plant – Releases of pollutants’ are Carbon Dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and mercury compounds. These limits are from the EPA (environmental pollution agency) and its 2249lbs/Mwh for carbon, 13lbs/Mwh for sulfur, 6lbs/Mwh for nitrogen. Water is used to cool the plant and the company has to have a permit to release the water back into the environment. The water may contain lead and arsenic and will have to be managed. Wisconsin Power & Light’s just settled a lawsuit that ended up with WP&L paying out 2.45 million for alleged violations of air pollution laws. WP&L agreed to pay out 8.5 million for environmental projects and that will include 5 million to solar power investments, 2 million to boast power from wind and hydropower plants. This is to be over the next 5 years. WP&L did not install the proper environment control equipment and that is the reason for the suit. The big thing is paying 1.2 billion to keep the big plant up and running with installing the needed pollution control items. Wisconsin is discontinuing about 17% of their coal burning fleet and that is about 1500 Megawatts of power and two plants are the Nelson Dewey plant in Cassville and two of the three boilers in Sheboygan, 590 megawatts of coal will be retired, or the equivalent of one large modern coal plant. Coal is roughly 49% of our electrical producing product. With wind and solar and hydro combined is roughly...
