...What worked? What worked for me, the most was being able to take online college courses. I always wanted to earn a college degree, yet never had the time because of family obligations. When I looked at Ashford University and what it had to offer, it allowed me to be able to, not only take LIB courses online, but also take care of my family at the same time. I had always wanted to do something in the educational field, and now, by taking LIB courses at Ashford, I am continuing towards a Master’s Degree in Education with a specialization in Instructional and Curriculum Design. Doing this never would have happened if it was not for online college. What didn’t work? The only thing that did not work was not having a break in between classes. Taking one course for five weeks, and then having to take the next five-week class right afterward was sometimes difficult to do because I felt “burned out.” Having a one-week break in between classes would give a student a chance to breathe and refresh their...

... they are a small software company, and they are consistently trying to compete with the likes of Cisco, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, and other large software companies for the best engineering talent and software-development talent around the country or even the world. You would think a small company like this that's relatively unheard of by most of us would really struggle in trying to attract talent. But SAS shows up to their campuses that they recruit at…they tend to have the largest flock of students waiting for them at the career fair, waiting for them at company presentations, and certainly trying to get on their interview schedules on campuses. The real reason behind that is, I think, partly due to the power of their brand as an employer. If we look at the SAS employment brand, the tagline has been, "Trust and respect, more than just a great place to work." Beneath that tagline they really have strong, compelling reasons as to why they are a better place to work. For example, within that tagline, this trust and respect includes things like not having a time clock, not having any monitoring of when you come to work and when you leave—but you have responsibilities for managing your own job. That means that if you can do that job in less than four hours, more power to you. If it takes up to eight hours, that's fine. If that means you should come in at eight in the morning and leave by one so you can go kayak, or, vice versa, you come in at one to get the better run down the...

Amanda Shank: Yeah, we get a lot more requests now for thecarry-on luggage. They want something they can take with them. Theydon’t want to deal with the headache of checking a bag. They just wantsomething light that’s easy to carry on with them; something aroundthis size, the 21. Emily Griffin: I think that one of the bigreasons we’re successful in keeping people at a very high level ofdedication and motivation in our stores is that they really feel apersonal connection with people at the corporate level. My name isEmily Griffin, and I manage crew development for Flight 001. They cancall one of the owners on the phone if they want, and that person will– you know John or Brad will answer their questions. There’s really anopen door with every single person here. So I think that they both feelthen a personal connection to the company and a personal loyalty, whichI think goes a long way. But they also feel like they’re pluggedinto the bigger picture. They don’t feel like they’re just given a listof tasks to do, a list of numbers to hit. They feel like they are partof the broader growth of our company – which they are. We’re dependingon them. I also notice that there was a lot of yelling and some and large amounts of miscommunication, due to the fact there are so many employees that work at the bike organization. So one of the first things I did with my visit to the Dirt Bikes company was to speak with one of the owners and managers of this company to see exactly what he or she thought about the functionality of this company, and if he or she thought that there could be any improvement on how communication between the employees and communication between employees and the customers could be improved. A Certainly enough the Dirt Bike’s company owner agreed that the company could really you some better forms of communicating information amongst themselves and with customers. So me being the investigator I subscribed and intranet system for the company. The owner then began to ask me what it was, so I explained like so. An intranet system is an internal system that will allow your employees to keep up with the latest work events, business stats, deadlines, news reports and any other major internal information that you employees may need to know or keep up with. I also explained to the owner that this system could really improve all the communication between each section in your Dirt Bike Company. The owner began to tell me how the sections of the company that he had, and he also asked me how the intranet could improve them. So I began to...

...Nick Klepper Professor Walker English 101, Sec. 30 21 April 2014 What is a Procrastinator? For centuries the word procrastinator has been used with one who usually likes to be an irresponsible person and one who is lazy. And most of the time it is very easy to recognize one when it’s right of front of you. So the question I have always asked myself is what really makes a procrastinator, and how do you know if you are one? A procrastinator is one who puts off doing something, especially out of habitual carelessness or laziness. And really that explains the gist of what one actually is. But that still leave people wondering if they actually are one. Similar terms that come to mind to describe one include such synonymous as postpone or prolong and adjectives such as lazy or irresponsible. But people that are procrastinators may not even be lazy at all, it’s just that they prefer to delay things as much possible because they work better under time constraints and under pressure. It’s funny because some of the greatest people ever to live where procrastinators and they still ended up doing great things in life and helping the better of this country. It seems though that in most cases a procrastinator will end up completing every task like everyone else just in a more stressed time frame. There is always that saying of, “it doesn’t matter how you finish the race as long as you cross the finish line.” This saying is absolutely perfect to describe procrastinators and there...

...Part One – What I Used to Think About Art and Artists When I started taking this class this semester I wasn’t really sure exactly what to expect or which artists we were going to study. When I started this course I used to think that artists, as in painters, were all somewhat strange quiet people with few social skills. From my previous experience most of the people that I knew or knew about were a bit on the strange side. I knew a lot of unknown artists when I was younger and I still know some unknown artists now, it’s just that most of the ones that I know fit that particular stereotype. Rather messy in appearance and kind of closed off from most of society. I used to think that most artists behaved in a somewhat wild manner with wacky thoughts. Being an artist myself, pretty much everyone I knew in my high school art classes were all pretty strange, we were always causing a ruckus. I used to think when artists did art it just kind of happened. I guess I felt like it just came naturally to artists and the magic kind of just happened all on its own, like that it didn’t take a lot of effort to do it. I think that when I was in high school and taking a lot of art classes I just don’t remember thinking to much about what I had to do, I’m sure I probably did, I just don’t remember consciously think about it. I never really thought about what sources there would be for artists other than love, drugs, and alcohol. I guess that it what used to first pop into my mind...

I asked him: “What do you think are some of the areas I need to work on to improve my leadership skills in a professional environment?” The outcome was fantastic, as I knew he would give me a straightforward feedback. He was very honest and really wanted me to improve myself so he took this opportunity to provide the best possible feedback. I learned a lot about my leadership skills that I never knew and I was grateful for talking to him about this. My partner gave me really good feedback that I really took in and listened too. I realized how important listening was from the readings as it is the central skill in the establishment and maintenance of interpersonal relationships, which in turn establishes teamwork. But most of all, listening to him and the details he describe about how I could improve myself really promoted problem solving abilities just like the readings mentioned. For example, he mentioned that I needed to better understand the different work styles of my group mates so I can better delegate the work when I’m leading the group due to the fact that some people like to finish their work early and some like to procrastinate. Another feedback was that I needed to spend the same amount of time working on a project as my teammates even if I am already very knowledgeable in that particular...

...and has became famous for his work. Arrogant and self-centered Guido Contini finds himself struggling to find meaning, purpose, and most importantly a script for his latest film. With only a week left before shooting begins, Guido desperately searches for answers and inspiration from his wife, his mistress, and others around him. As his chaotic profession steadily destroys his personal life, Guido must find a balance between creating art and deciding what is really important to him. Guido’s obsession with his films but more importantly his obsession with his lifestyle blinds him from reality. Throughout the story the press keep hassling Guido and his wife, Luisa, about the way Guido lives his life. Including his personal life, which entails questions about his mistresses, his progress on his movie, and the relationship between him as his wife. In a scene Luis describes whom her husband really is, and that the press confuses Guido with his work. “My husband makes movies; To make them he lives a kind of dream; In which his actions aren’t always what they seem”, Luisa believes that her husband and his work are confused by the public. When watching the play I was somewhat confused on what side she was on. I couldn’t distinguish the difference between how she felt towards Guido and how she felt towards the press’s thoughts on Guido. I believe though at that point in the play that she was sticking up for him, and she was blinded by what he was really doing. Luisa was making a point...

...a contractor. When someone chooses to become a contractor it allows them to try other jobs, see what is out there and get a chance to get experiences that they wouldn’t normally get if they were stuck with one role for the rest of their professional life. Being a contractor is more advantageous than working direct by allowing flexibility and pay. One major reason contract work is very alluring is the pay and the fact they are paid double what an average employee will make in an hour. They are able to negotiate more freely with an agency on how much they wish to be paid versus someone in a more direct position that is able to negotiate, but if the offer returned doesn’t exceed their expectations, then there is the chance they can decide to go with someone else who will take lower pay. The bottom line is you can usually make a lot more money as a W-2 or 1099 contractor/consultant than a salaried position. In a contract role, if a company doesn’t match what you are asking for there is more wiggle room. The agency will take a cut from what the company pays you and they can take a less of a cut and pay more to you. In the case that the agency is not willing to budge, they can always find another agency that will give you the pay you desire. There are so many agencies out there that will grasp at the opportunity to work with different walks of life and are more willing to pay them what they wish. An...

Health promotion was basically like a nursing table, they informed me about all the different options I had in the “Health Field”. The next table I went to was Family Services. I wanted to go to this table, because I have been in Human Identity and Relationships class and I actually really like it. At this table they informed us on all the ways...
