...I do not agree that students should be required to volunteer in their communities to receive their high school diplomas. I have many reasons to why I don't agree with this requirement. The first one is students may have to work everyday after school, the second one is they could be disabled and not be able to do it, and the third one is being forced to volunteer isn't really volunteering. Some students may have to work every day after school so therefore they can’t volunteer in their community. For example, I work almost everyday after school so that wouldn’t give me time to volunteer in my community. Some students may like to volunteer in their community but i think if you want to volunteer that they should make a club for students who only...

...HRPYC81 PROJECT 4809 Assignment 2 What motivates people to do volunteer work? MJ SCRIVEN TABLE OF CONTENTS LITERATURE REVIEW There are almost as many reasons for getting involved in volunteer work as there are volunteers. Once people get started, they find that their deepest rewards are ones they didn't expect when they first came looking for a volunteer assignment. Participants entered the volunteer world through ads in the paper, articles in the media and invitations by friends. They wanted to get involved in a new community, they overheard someone talking about a need or they just wanted to be active. Some wanted to repay a perceived debt to society and others took up volunteer work as part of a major reassessment of their lives and priorities. They came looking for a better balance in their lives, a learning experience, something to do with their time after retirement or something to add to their skills and their resumes. A good number had a stake in the organization where they were helping. This might be a friend or relative with a disability or a disease or the expectation that they themselves might someday need the service. “The idea that an individual would make significant personal sacrifices for another person, particularly when that person is a stranger, has long fascinated students of social behaviour” (Clary et al. 1998: 1516). “Volunteerism may be defined as contributing one's time or talents for charitable, educational, social, political...

...in news or newspapers many people do volunteer work such as making books in Braille for a blind person, keeping company with the aged and caring for disabled people, and so on. As we see their doing volunteer work, we can feel that they are feeling great pleasure and worth of volunteering while they are doing volunteer work. But why do I not have good memory about volunteer work although I have done volunteer work for 13years? I think that's because volunteering I did was mandatory volunteering. Mandatory volunteering can reduce quality of volunteer work and cause negative recognition about volunteer work. First, mandatory volunteering reduce quality of volunteering. For example, recently, a students who was doing a mandatory volunteering in an assisted living facility was rude to a senior and snigger her with his friends who recorded a video at that moment. And it was uploaded on the online and this case caused a big ramification in Korea whether mandatory volunteering have to keep proceeding or not. This is a typical case which indicates negative effect of mandatory volunteering. if students don't want to do that and do by force of someone or school , mandatory volunteering can cause so many serious negative effects although intention of school is what students to go out into the community and feel a rewarding and fulfilling as doing a mandatory volunteering. Bigger demerit of mandatory volunteer work than reducing quality of volunteer work is mandatory volunteering can make...

...they would think to their self that’s what I want to do when I get older. Many children when asked what they want to do as a career normally say a firefighter or police officer. There are many reasons to be both, but being a firefighter can be an easy thing to do. There are many career and volunteer fire departments throughout the nation, even some are mixed between career and volunteer. Firefighting is more than a career or job whether it be volunteer or paid it is a calling. Many people would not go into a house that’s on fire, while everyone else is running out. Firefighters are dedicated to helping others and in some cases like today in Massachusetts three firefighters were trapped when a structure collapsed that they were working in to extinguish the fire. They were all rescued after the collapse and two of them made it out with serious injuries and another gave the ultimate sacrifice. Today unfortunately showed the dangers that the job has and how firefighters put their lives on the line every day. Most believe that a firefighter is a hero and most firefighter’s say it is just part of their job, it is proven daily that it is more than a job they are heroes. In the United States there are over 1.1 million volunteer firefighters that is two thirds of all fire fighters. In the nation yearly the amount of emergency calls increase significantly the amount of volunteer firefighters has dropped over 10% in the last 20 years. (Hampson) Why is this? It’s because society is changing...

...relatively easy for me. Even when I was young I was always motivated to be the best in getting AR points in my grade, and for a while I was the best. I consistently try my best to get an A, even when I feel like giving up. When I don’t get one I usually feel disappointed in myself and regularly try to correct my mistake before it can happen again. When I grow up I want to be an engineer, so I try extra hard in math and science. I do well in group projects and I have been best in class in a couple of public speeches. I also was tested and had one of the best reading levels in my school family/team. Reaching 270 AR points in first grade may not earn me any scholarships, but it shows that I’m a self motivated hard working kid. Participation & Leadership...

...Volunteer motivation People use their time and efforts to volunteer for various reasons (Bang & Ross, 2009). It means that different volunteers may have different reasons for the same activity or may have same reason in various activities. (Cuskelly et al., 2006) Also, volunteer motivations are that people want to help others and for a personal or social benefit. (Hoye et al., 2008) In this regard, there are numerous studies about the motivations of sports volunteers that using different models or scales as follows: Olympic Volunteer Motivation Scale (OVMS) (Giannoulakis et al., 2007), five factors (altruistic value, personal development, community concern, ego enhancement, and social approval) (Wang, 2006), five factors (solidary, purposive, external traditions, commitment/status, and skills) (Smith and Dickson, 2013), systemic quality of life model (SQOL) (Shye, 2010) In order to understand the motivations of volunteers in Mega-sporting events, a study by Giannoulakis et al. ...Working and volunteer work are two similar things but different as well. Working is where a person is employed by a person within a company where you are paid based on the position you were hired for. Volunteer work is where the individual does work that is very much needed as well but does not receive a pay for that work. I will be writing about how work and volunteer work can have an impact on people and communities throughout the world. Work is needed to provide a person with basic needs to provide for themselves and even for their family. In order for this to happen the person must meet the requirements the company is looking for in a future employee. Without work a person or family cannot pay the bills needed to keep their home, vehicle, electricity, gas, and even food for their family. Many people have a job to meet these needs by staying focused on what they need to achieve to stay with that employer. However, there are people who just have a job that do not have prerequisites because the company provides training for those future employees. A person may have a job just to meet those needs but are not happy with that job. This is because the company and that employee both benefit from work arrangement. The company hires the individual to work in their company and the individual gets paid, therefore he/she is able to provide for themselves and/or their family. When I worked in a photo lab I developed pictures for customers and also helped in retouching pictures...

...Proposal for: Corporate Volunteer Program Proposal to Create a Corporate Volunteering Program at Kramer Electronics 3/12/2012 I would like to propose that the Kramer Electronics Company adopt a corporate volunteer program. I have done the research and believe integrating a volunteering program will benefit the company, employees and the community. By having a program like this for our company it will increase job satisfaction, build brand awareness and strengthen trust and loyalty among consumers. Introduction For the past three years I have worked at Kramer Electronics and enjoy it very much. When I was in college I was involved with a lot of volunteer work and wish I could continue my involvement into my career. While being here at the company I have noticed some employee disengagement and by having this program in our company it can bring our team together even more and stronger. Corporate volunteering is business supporting and encouraging staff involvement in the community. This report will overview the potential of Corporate Volunteering. Proposed Solution: Create a volunteer program To better our company, I propose creating a paid day of work to volunteer employee’s time for special community projects. I have evaluated volunteering opportunities to become a part of and believe volunteering our time for a children’s charity organization or adopting a school would be the most beneficial. We need to volunteer in a way that matches our expertise...

...I don't think that we should be forced to do 100 hours of community service. Maybe fewer hours or not having to do it at all just a choice if we want to, I don't think they should tell us we won't be able to graduate if we don't get those 100 done. Here are some reasons on why we should have to do community service, Some high schoolers have jobs that take up their afternoon and sometimes the weekends,Some of the students can't drive yet so there parents would have to take them and some parents work and don't have time to take them for 3 hours or more than that come back and pick them up repeatedly, and finally other students have younger siblings they have to take care of or go pick up from schools. There are my three reasons on why we should...

...Your background, experiences, and values will enhance and diversify Kellogg. How? (1-2 double-spaced pages) The Darden School seeks a diverse and unique entering class of future managers. How will your distinctiveness enrich our learning environment and enhance your prospects for success as a manager? Every essay question on the admissions application is geared toward the same thing. Committee members want to find out who you are, what makes you different from everyone else, and how you will contribute to the school if accepted. This question asks these things outright. Because it asks so directly what the admissions committee wants to know, this is one of the most common questions you will find. The question has a structure similar to the Why M.B.A.? question. It asks both Why us? and Why you? However, the nature of this question lends itself to a more personal response. Whereas the Why M.B.A.? question asks what you have done, what you want to do, and how that relates to the school, this question asks about who you are and how it relates to the school. The Why M.B.A.? question asks about your experiences, and this question asks about your qualities. Just as you brainstormed about your experiences, actions, and goals for the first question, brainstorm about your qualities and characteristics for this one. What sets you apart from everyone else? What words do friends and family use to describe you? For some people, the focus of this question will come easily. A minority...

...of others in a positive way. However, I didn’t fully understand the impact of this until I started volunteering myself. In middle school I volunteered at my local senior center, singing and reading to the elders. Today I have moved on to bigger projects, like hosting bone marrow drives and blood drives. Helping others is the greatest gift you can give and it will change your outlook on life, forever. Volunteering is such a fulfilling experience and today more than 60 million people offer their services in some way.(1) However, there are still some people that choose not to be involved. In fact, for most people, their reason is simple: it is just too time-consuming. Why should we spend free time doing things for someone else? Why should we involve ourselves in work that has no financial value? The answer is clear: We should volunteer to support the general welfare of our communities and the world. Volunteering is not just a fulfilling experience - it is a chance for an individual to make a positive difference within their community and within themselves. Research has shown that those who volunteer have lower mortality rates, greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression later in life than those who do not volunteer. Plus, community involvement also looks great on a resume and volunteer positions can be a great form of page 2 on-the-job training. Many skills can be obtained with the diverse volunteer opportunities available to everyone. ...

...At the suggestion of a reader, It was suggested I consider writing an article concerning Volunteerism. As I I accepted the challenge with great anticipation. I am reminded that I too am a volunteer, and have been now for more than 7 years, and I must admit I never thought in a million years I would have accomplished the goals that I have, nor entertain any thoughts of the amount of responsibility I now have. The feelings of accomplishment are incredible. I chose to join a volunteer organization because I wanted to help others as others before me. At some point in everyone’s life we are reliant on someone else for an emergency of some type. Becoming a volunteer allows you the opportunity to not only return the favor but also get a little something in return. It’s a nice way of saying thank – you. During his State of the Union Address, President George W. Bush called on all Americans to give at least two years of their lives -- the equivalent of 4,000 hours -- of service to their neighborhoods, communities and the Nation. I encourage everyone who is reading this article to meet that challenge. This is a small price to pay for the rewards you will receive in return. Many people volunteer for a variety of different reasons, I have always felt the need to help others, and will probably continue, to my dying days, but that’s just me. How about you? What are some reasons why you want to volunteer? But you should also look into what’s in it for you. There’s nothing wrong...

...Tamika Acoff Civic Engagement: 52:620:311:01:14949 Assignment Due Date: 10/10/2014 History of Non-Profit Agency American businesses’ mission is to make a financial profit while non-profit agencies have “stated” philanthropic missions of providing services for the needy. I hate to sound syndical, but during my short experience and limited research I am not too convinced that this is, indeed, the “sole” mission of non-profit agencies. “Let’s help!” But why, do we want to help? Why do we want to create these organizations? A school assignment? A tax benefit? Are we helping because there is some self-gratification that allows us to sleep at night? Or are we helping to settle our stomachs growling with guilt? Is it because we want to learn how we fit in this puzzle of life and grade ourselves compared to others? To get out of the house because our children are adults now and moved out? Perhaps our spouses are no longer around? Maybe, just maybe, these non-profit groups were born from a maternal instinct of culture full of their beliefs and values partnered with the paternal works of satisfying our own selfish ways. Those partners give birth to non-profit agencies using the umbrella of humanitarian to cover up the roots of its existence. Going back to the time of the American industrialization, many of the Government’s public organizations, such as churches and libraries, ran on public donations. In “Historical Perspectives On Nonprofit Organizations In The United...
