...International Marketing Management Target in Canada I. Executive Summary In this report I will talk about the American retailer; “Target” failed attempt to conquer the Canadian market. I will first give a detailed introduction of the company and what were the circumstances of such event. I will then describe the different problems the company encountered during their stay in Canada. I will briefly showcase the different guidelines that Target should have used going into this international market. Afterwards I will give my market research of the retailer’s market in Canada to then give a new marketing plan that Target should have followed in order to succeed internationally. I will end by a brief conclusion of the case and give my personal opinion on the subject. II. Introduction Target, the US supermarket founded in 1962, decided to expand into the international market in 2013. It only seemed like the logical next step for the 3rd biggest supermarket in America. After 50 years, they had conquered the American market with their great customer service and products and it was now time for the world to experience the Target culture. The timing was perfect, as the previous year, the Canadian supermarket Zeller had gone out of business. This meant their 220 retail stores in Canada were for sale. It was the perfect opportunity for Target to finally expand beyond the US. Canada was a considered an easy step into the foreign market, as there was a similar culture...

...Recreational drug use is defined as the consumption of narcotics to have a altered state of mind, usually to create a positive atmosphere (White 2012). In Canada the judicial opinion on recreational drug use is that it is illegal. In the cases of R.v Malmo-Levine and R.v Caine have challenged the constitutionality of the criminalization of recreational drugs. R.v Malmo-Levine ran an organization that attempted to reduce the harm associated with marijuana, police raided his club and he was charged with the possession of marijuana and for trafficking. R.v Caine was caught with marijuana in his car and was also charged for the possession of marijuana(Dyzenhause et al 2007). In the case of R.v Malmo-Levine and R.v Caine have argued the criminalization...

...Same Sex Marriage Same-sex marriage should be allowed in Canada. Same sex marriage should be accepted everywhere in Canada. Canada defines itself a country of freedom. If they do not allow people to marry to whom they love, opposite or same sex, then this country and government is giving us false facts about this country being a country of freedom. Many same sex couples want to get married to deepen their love for each other and to show the world that they will always be together. Marriage is a sign of love and people should be able to marry regardless of their sexual orientation. This country should allow people to choose who he or she wants to marry. Same sex marriage was legalized on July 20, 2005 in Canada. In order to get legally married as a gay or lesbian couple in Canada, there are certain factors that are looked upon. These factors include the presence of a conjugal relationship, the degree of exclusivity of the relationship, and the extent to which the two contribute towards each other's well-being. This is only considered in same sex marriage. If gay and lesbian couples have to prove their love for each other then why don’t straight couple need to prove their love? Gay and lesbian couple have to prove all that just because they like their same sex or they are in minority? It is more difficult to get married as a gay couple rather than a straight couple. It is unethical, people should treat both marriages equally, this country is supposed to be based on equality...

...Canada has had its share of victims of miscarriages of justice in the past fifty years. In the Oxford dictionary, miscarriage of justice is defined as, “a failure of a court or judicial system to attain the ends of justice, especially one which results in the conviction of an innocent person.” (Oxford Dictionary). Currently in Canada, there is no legal obligation to compensate the victims of wrongful conviction. (“Entitlement to Compensation”). This is something that needs to change. Canada should compensate the victims of wrongful conviction with money based on however many years they spent waiting for trial, as well as the time they spent in jail. These victims need to be compensated because these convictions can ruin their reputation and...

...known as the Cradle-to-Grave Welfare. The question is Should Canada and the United States have a common economic system with little government involvement? I will talk about mixed and market economic system and my opinions on both as well as which one is more beneficial for Canada. Market system, This economic system has become less and less popular through the years for numerous reasons. For an example in a market economy there is a huge gap between the rich and the poor, this is because when you are at the top of the market it is easy to control what is happening and what to do with what you have. When you are at the bottom it is difficult to get going and you will most likely be getting scammed by the people at the top. Another reason why a most of the world has gone away from this style is because there is no government to help you out if needed. For example in the united states they have no health care, this is a problem for the lower paid...

...season is arriving in South Sudan, and with it, fears of renewed ground fighting. Every effort should be made to achieve a cease-fire right now in Western Upper Nile. It would bring respite to thousands of people if a component of any such cease-fire was a removal of the iniquitous Flight Bans which just deprive hungry people of the food they need. Operation Lifeline Sudan is ready to assume the risks of operating when conditions are less than optimal;the GOS is wrong to hide behind concerns for their safety in applying these bans, and not only Canada but also Talisman and its oil partners should now put their influence behind efforts to have the bans removed, but it is best that this be done in the context of the needed cease-fire in Western Upper Nile/Unity State. And this cease-fire should be monitored by the international community through the use of monitors on the ground, among other means, particularly at the airstrips used by the oil companies, at Heglig, Rubkona, and Bentiu. A cease-fire which Talisman, either witnessing or acquiescing in the use of Heglig airstrip for military purposes, should be very firm in advocating and ready to pay a price for, perhaps in the form of foregone revenues. The gunships and Antonovs have taken off from Heglig with their payloads of death and displacement. That this never again occur should be the goal of all concerned; but why not seek to have the gunships and Antonovs grounded, not relocated? Oil Money There are only two...

...Cultural Protectionism (Human Geography) What are the benefits/costs of cultural protection of secularism in Canada? Should government enforce cultural protection of secularism? The government of Canada should accept all forms of cultural and religious regalia instead of imposing restrictions on symbols, garbs, veils, turbans, and kippahs, worn in public sector workplaces. Canada's cultural protection of secularism have remained fairly good through the federal government's experience but with little criticism compared to Quebec's recent controversy with Bill 60. This bill is a perfect example as to why Canada doesn't need a new legislation. Bill 60 initially planned to ban religious wearing from public places, educational institutes and jobs. Canada is a multicultural nation with a diverse range of cultural and religious groups that seamlessly work together in many different environments. To simply ban religious regalia would be huge for Canadian citizens that make up majority of public sector workplaces. The benefits of a cultural protection of secularism are usually created to protect cultural values, traditions, languages and identity. For example, Bill 101 in Quebec was passed to protect the French language. Most recently Bill 60 became very controversial and received a lot of criticism. The bill intended to adjust Quebec's Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms, develop neutrality amongst all state employees in workplaces, restrict wearing religious symbols, make...

...available to individuals and families with income between the 133 percent and 400 percent of poverty level.” (By CBS News Capitol Hill Producers Jill Jackson and John Nolen ) With America being in debt trillions of dollars how are we paying for this $940 billion plan? If a college student comes out of college in debt thousands of dollars and lands a six figure job, he will be penalized? More taxes for the young that don't even need healthcare! I do believe the rich should have a little more higher taxes but not for health care that is not optional. I myself personally don't currently need health-care seeing as I am in great health and have no medical problems or history. The young people who need more health care should have the option to want the plan, not be forced into it. Elderly people need health care, so elderly people will be going to the doctor all the time getting a ton of treatment and paying the same amount in this “Universal Plan” as someone younger who will maybe go to the doctor once a year. So why does this society see the need to waste resources,...

...Access to reproductive health care is essential to a woman's health, and for some Canadian women, abortion is a key component of that care. However, not all women in Canada have adequate, or in some cases any access to abortion. Before delving into the core of this essay, I would like to clarify that there are different types of abortions. First off, abortion is the ending of pregnancy and explosion of the embryo or fetus, generally before the embryo or fetus is capable of surviving on its own. Abortion may be brought on intentionally by artificial means, which is referred to as induced abortion or may naturally occur, which is known as spontaneous abortion and also referred to as a miscarriage. In Elizabeth Renzetti’s article, “If abortion...

...Businesses in Canada should not be able to sue for defamation because a corporation is not a person. Defamation is easy to allege but hard to defend, and there are effective alternatives to respond to it. Corporations may be designed and operated by people, but corporations are not human beings. John Paul Stevens, a retired associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States can provide support stating: Corporations have no consciences, no beliefs, no feelings, no thoughts, no desires. Corporations help structure and facilitate the activities of human beings, to be sure, and their 'personhood' often serves as a useful legal fiction. But they are not themselves members of “We the People” by whom and for whom our Constitution was established. {insert refernce} With the belief that a corporation is not a person, the definition of defamation suggests corporations should not be able to sue for defamation. According to the Canadian Bar Association “Defamation is communication about a person that tends to hurt the person's reputation. It causes the reader or listener to think less of the person. The communication must be made to other people, not just to the person it's about.” The fact that Corporations are not human entities is not the only reason businesses in Canada should not be allowed to sue for defamation. Defamation is also easy to allege but hard to defend. Since Corporations have substantial financial and legal resources, including teams of corporate lawyers...

...Rather than including impractical information, rhetors include specific details and use certain styles in order to achieve their purpose. Within the excerpt from Tim O’Brien’s “On the Rainy River”, the author communicates his internal conflictions about the war. The rhetor of this excerpt uses both syntax and imagery in order to justify his decision and earn ethical acceptance from the audience. O’Brien includes imagery as a method to support and propel his purpose. The audience has perceived O’Brien as a wimp for considering fleeing to Canada to avoid the war, but his use of imagery proves just how appealing Canada is. As O’Brien gazes across the shoreline, he describes, “I could see tiny red berries on the bushes. I could see a squirrel...

Voting is something Americans are taught is a fundamental right of being a US citizen and it should be exercised extensively as it is part of the foundation of democracy. Historically, African Americans and women did not have the right to vote in the United States but they were fought for because voting is such an essential right. Why is it that people are not exercising this right which is so important to the future of the United States? In this essay, local voter turnout in the US, Canada, and the UK will be described and explained and then compared in...

There is also a huge void and as grade 9’s we need to get the message across to others - meaning no more racism, bullying, and gender equality. We need to have love, tolerance and respect for each other. We can make the choice to end these issues and make Canada even better! Racism has been going on forever! We need to stop hurting people just because of their color, heritage or beliefs. Immigrants are in constant fear of being the target of a hate crime. Global News reported that “The number of police-reported hate crimes targeting Muslim-Canadians more than doubled over a three-year period.” The hate crime rate across Canada is 3.7 per 100,000 people.
