...When a Mishap Occurs Keith A. Williams 110414 In the Air Force, mishaps occur regularly. This is unfortunate but, inevitable when you have a workforce of over 300,000 military members and 170,000 civilian personnel. Any mishap could create a crisis situation but, the severity of that mishap determines not only the response but the investigation to prevent recurrence. Categorically, mishaps are broken down by discipline, class and duty status. The disciplines are labeled as: Ground, Flight, Space and Weapons. Ground would be a mishap which occurred; you got it, on the ground. A car accident, a trip and fall at home (as military personnel are accounted for 24 hours a day) or a sprained back while lifting a box at work would all be considered ground mishaps. Flight mishaps are those that deal with aircraft. Aircraft are defined as manned as well as unmanned, such as Remote Piloted Aircraft (RPA) or as the media calls them drones. Space mishaps deal with space flight such as rockets and satellites. Weapons mishaps are those that occur when an explosive device, such as a grenade, missile or bomb incident occurs. All of these categories are then broken down by class from A-D. A Class A being the worse, whereas there is a loss of life or property damage over $2,000,000. A Class B mishap is one where there is a loss of a limb (leg or arm) or function of an eye(s) or property damage less than $2,000,000 but more than $500,000. A Class C mishap is when there are only lost workdays...

...Matt Alwine February 13, 2013 English 30 Days of the Association “Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game.” This quote is from the best basketball player in the world, Michael Jordan. I kept this quote in my mind while I did my 30 day challenge. It took me many days to think of what to do for my 30 day challenge, I changed my mind many different times. When I finally thought of something that I was actually excited about, I stuck with it and decided to do it. For the 30 days I am going to play basketball every day, so I can try and improve my basketball skills. I am not only going to work on just shooting; I am also going to work on my athletic ability, jumping, passing, leadership, foul shots, and shooting. For the 30 days I will be trying many activities to improve the areas I have just listed. My research question will be: In 30 days can I improve my athletic ability, jumping, passing, leadership, foul shots, and over all shooting? I will try to improve my skills over the next 30 days by doing many things that I have done my research on and found drills and practices. While I try and improve my overall basketball skills I will also improve my overall health but I will not record it because that is not my main goal. Playing basketball for 30 days will not be hard for me because I use to play basketball every day when I was in high school however when I came to Ball State I have maybe played three times all year. I have played basketball for most of my life and I want to...

...Creating Cultural Synergy: A Management Plan for a culturally diverse team Theresa Famolaro MGMT 615 Dr. Linda Smith 20 March 2012 Introduction This paper presents a problematic multicultural team scenario and a management plan to bring about the team’s effectiveness and success through cultural synergy. A summary of the conflict among team members sets the stage for an innovative solution, while a description of the emergence of multicultural teams in the workplace provides a context. Initially, an assessment of the cultural diversity of the team members is provided. Then, a plan to leverage the richness of culturally diverse team members working together is explored. Finally, in the event that the plan is unsuccessful, a backup plan is offered for consideration. Due to globalization, people from various cultures find themselves working with individuals from other cultures, often in an intercultural team environment. A team is an interdependent group of individuals brought together for innovation and the achievement of a specific goal (Northouse, 2010). Team cohesiveness is positively associated with openness of opinions and collaboration between team members. Disagreement within teams negatively affects team members from sharing points of view (Woerkom & Sanders, 2010). Multicultural teams are more likely to display less cohesion than teams with members that share the same culture. Cultural diversity...

...Time Management As leaders we often times feel that there is not enough time for everything we need to accomplish in a day. Some people equate being busy with being productive. The “pareto principle” states that 20% of what we do produces 80% of what we achieve. (SkillSoft, 2009) This means that we should be focusing our time on the 20% of the things that are most important and complete those tasks. If a leader applies good time management strategies to the way you work you should be able to spend more than 20% of your time on the important tasks that need to be completed. Managing the valuable commodity of time can improve both your professional and personal life. In order for a leader to really manage their time they need to answer these two questions: 1. How much time do I have? a. Determining how much time you have in a typical work day is based on whether you work 8 hours plus a lunch hour and the type of work being done. 2. How do I spend my time? a. How you use your time during the day can be difficult to know with so many variable tasks that we do each day. Tracking your time using a work log can help you determine how your time is spent each day. This section of the Leadership Handbook will outline several valuable ideas in two very important areas of time management: • How to record and analyze your time using time logs • Effective strategies to avoid wasting time Analyze Your Time with Time Logs Creating a time log can help you identify problem areas...
