1. Why is it important that all fans in the world have the same experience? Since Akamai is a famous content delivery network company and having distributed computing platform across the world, NBA wants their end users to have same experience around the world while they surf the content from NBA.com. When user browse a url of NBA.com, then users browser gets redirected to one of the Akamai’s browser and starts delivering content from nearest available data server. Since Akamai having servers count of around 25000 across the globe, they can deliver the content of NBA in an efficient way. Akamai Stream OS feature helps NBA to deliver its rich media assets without any interruption to the customers. Having the data centres and servers across the globe, Akamai allows end users to connect to their nearest content provider servers having access with lower distraction and less network traffic. NBA expected workflow and process of delivering their rich media content is available with Akamai, which made it to deliver same experience around the world.

2. Why is it important that individual franchise owners can build, manage, and distribute on the NBA platform their own content? Akmai Stream OS is an enterprise solution which simplifies customer's rich media/content delivery. It is also provided with different tools in it ,which helps in managing the content and also enforcing the business policies Akamai Stream OS feature allows different firms of NBA league to telecast their videos in an efficient manner. All teams can have their own groups with the Akamai Stream OS website. Different associates of NBA can schedule their videos/stuff in their own way with content manager available. Also life events tool helps NBA league partners to telecast their live videos over internet to customer in a timely manner. And the different tools associated with Stream OS are content manager, life events, RSS manager, profile, reports, Enterprise manager. Each tool have their own functionality with the Stream OS product. Post implementing Akamai Stream OS,NBA has experienced remarkable figures with their viewers count ranging 35million users accessing web content across 222 countries each month. Akamai Stream OS allowed NBA to make a content of 195million videos available with Akamai data centres network globally. The contact and ease of use with the Akamai network made NBA to achieve tremendous revenues since 2001.

3. Using the competitive forces model illustrated in Figure 2.3 of the text, analyze the NBA’s market situation. How does the use of Akamai help the NBA compete in this market?
NBA being a global fan holder it always need to target its services globally. Many other local and national sports channels also telecast the NBA league events during specific days like weekends and on festival events. NBA’s craze also should be cashed with the TV broadcasters having lucrative deals. Although NBA achieves higher growth in income with major teams of the league, it also has to concentrate with the less populated matches of minor teams to have overall gain from the total matches they conduct. Since leagues are present with many other games also, NBA has to compete indirectly with the other game leagues such as Major League Baseball, National Hockey League, National Football League. Comparing with the all popular game leagues revenues of year 2014, NBA stood at 3rd position. NBA to improve its market position, it has to be strengthen deeply in its competitive advantages from others. Having reliable broadcast, marginal ticket fares for the game can keep it a step higher from rest of competitors. Also if broadcast charges are provided at lower rates to audience it can achieve higher growth rates from global market. Although NBA having its own market strategy, it telecast live games of league in its own website with help of best content distributor network ‘Akamai’ for global fans, as well as in local and national channels. Also it had a different pass system for league games such as NBA team pass, NBA league audio and video passes, NBA game pass. In addition to these it also has application called NBA app with mobiles to deliver league content and also a option of TV subscribers. Owing to its own asymmetric and first-mover advantage features, NBA maintaining its growth over years. It has self set leverages for teams. NBA has strong organizational skills and eminent management system to carry their operations. The value proposition of end users about NBA would be always positive because of the services provided by it. Akamai being the content provider of NBA ensures elegant features such as wider bandwidth for delivering content, quality of service and support, cloud based approach for storing the data, better performance with results accelerated, globally distributed, time to time deployment. It delivers consistent web performance to customers and also reduces infrastructure complex city. Since NBA events are telecasted over different places across the world with efficient media delivery through Akamai , NBA has successful sponsors across the globe for investments. Due to the up’s and down’s with the partners of NBA league over the few years it has not yet marked profitable net income. And the current business model followed with the NBA is Air Ball. NBA has fans around the world and it wants to serve its content across the globe. Making some restriction policies while serving the content to the fans, NBA would serve far better. Advanced technology associated with Akamai such as, improved web performance, mobile performance, cloud security and efficient delivery solution, sets NBA ahead of rest of competitors. The management of NBA also co-ordinates with Akamai management in adoption of new technologies for better service to the users. By providing best experience to end users across globe, NBA can attract sponsors for its further growth.

4. Using the strategy models discussed in pages 57–59 of the text, what do you think is the NBA’s overall strategy or strategies?
Akamai Stream OS feature differentiates NBA media assets from other leagues. Because NBA can deliver same content experience to end users across the globe through Akamai global servers. Akamai's global content delivery system allows users to fetch data from the nearest possible edge with least chances of buffering. NBA delivers their services at reasonable costs to end users. Although players involved in NBA leagues are from around the world, NBA servers its content globally to users through Akamai. NBA focuses to expand its market in narrow way, thereby allowing more investors to fund and earn profit through more advertising with NBA.com. In co-ordination with Akamai, NBA for its services achieves strong user bonding.Many China companies such as Lenovo, Haier etc are also interested in sponsoring NBA.

5. The word “partnership” appears several times in the video. Who are the NBA’s partners? How does the concept of a strategic ecosystem apply to the NBA’s partnership strategies? The National Basketball Association league has many partners involved in it. It contained 29 teams from USA and one team from Canada. Also the players in some teams are from different regions. Along with other country players and NBA league was also succeeded in drawing followers of it across the country. Having more than 45000 media assets, NBA had chosen to have a global network provider who can deliver their content across the globe. And they have chosen Akamai as their content deliver provider. Hence NBA league is followed globally; it attracts international firms across the globe to partner with it. Also NBA partners with Akamai to have the latest technology embedded with their infrastructure. Some China companies also interested in funding with NBA.
