...includes details about interviews, surveys, observations, and analysis. Contributors:Dana Lynn Driscoll, Allen Brizee Last Edited: 2012-09-21 10:05:43 Primary research is conducted all of the time--journalists use it as their primary means of reporting news and events; national polls and surveys discover what the population thinks about a particular political figure or proposal; and companies collect data on their consumer base and market trends. When conducting research in an academic or professional setting, you need to be aware of the ethics behind your research activity. Here are some specific points to consider: * You should have the permission of the people who you will be studying to conduct research involving them. * Not all types of research require permission—for example, if you are interested in analyzing something that is available publicly (such as in the case of commercials, public message boards, etc) you do not necessarily need the permission of the authors. * You don’t want to do anything that would cause physical or emotional harm to your subjects. This could be something as simple as being careful how you word sensitive or difficult questions during your interviews. * Objectivity vs. subjectivity in your research is another important consideration. Be sure your own personal biases and opinions do not get in the way of your research and that you give both sides fair consideration. * Many types of research, such as surveys or observations...

...administrative faculty and teaching faculty. The purpose of this study was to analyze on- and off-campus student housing which is current and past as well as nearby off-campus housing most utilized by XX’s undergraduate and graduate students. The analysis included XX’s student interviews, a student survey, a survey of parents of students, and an off-campus housing analysis. The major findings of the study were that even though XX is providing sophisticated partnered housing plans, the current housing scenario doesn’t fulfill the future demand and doesn’t provide single occupancy plans. Also, parents of the students are in favor of on-campus university plans. The three major conclusions of the study were that XX establish comprehensive on-campus university housing plan, develop more university partnered off-campus housing plans to ensure and fulfill long term and future demand and develop a great number of single occupancy unit types. ...the material and arrive at a more complete understanding on how African American families cope with having an autistic child, those receiving versus those not receiving professional counseling. We hope to shed light on the following questions through our research: Paradigm Study Design This research will utilize both quantitative and qualitative data collection tools, but is rooted in qualitative methods. A qualitative evaluation shall be utilized for this research project leveraging subjective methods such as interviews and surveys to collect substantive and relevant data. These interviews shall be conducted with practicing parents from the clinics as well as parents from surrounding schools and community. Such a qualitative approach is valuable here due to the varying experiences of the parents in the Houston-Spring area and other surrounding suburban cultural situations. Upon collecting the qualitative data derived from said interviews, careful analysis shall be done both manually and utilizing video software to prepare a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) to analyze how to best customize the course to the target populations. The research from this data should become an asset to the established body of literature on African American issues dealing with the diagnosis of an autistic child. As for our own research efforts, we will have the opportunity to implement by intercultural education expertise within the Houston-Spring area and surrounding suburbs...

...to persuade more people to sign on with the company. The research included defining the population from which the samples were collected. When it comes to the population and the different samples collected, the main goal is to focus on customers and provide outstanding services by conducting customer interviews, and surveys including group interviews of all ages. There are several methods that have taken place concerning collecting samples. The individual interviews we have collected were samples by applying surveys, from face to face interviews, in-store feedback, and telephone surveys. These surveys and interviews are conducted on a daily basis. These surveys are taking place in order to better our business when it comes to Ace cable. Individuals are completing surveys by voicing their opinions when it comes to the services and the channels that are selected. By having these surveys and interviews in place, we are getting the best feedback on what type of services they are looking forward to and what needs to be improved. In regard to group interviews, samples are being collected by surveys that are conducted at the time of the interviews. The surveys samples that are collected deals with expectations, feedback, and improved service. By having these different outcomes taking place, we can collect enough...

...C has performed a lot of analysis on to help top management of Ballard Integrated Managed Services, Inc (BIMS). These tasks were the result of a high amount of turnover trend of attrition and employees being unhappy within this particular company. The initial action taken involved data collection that were presented and passed out to employees in the form of an internal employee survey. The data collection analysis revealed our hypothesis and we set out to prove that the increase in employee turnover was due to low employee morale and poor employee performance not being happy with their role and the environment being a part of this company. The initial survey leads us to understand we have to get a stronger response rate than just 17.3%—to help achieve the goal of obtaining the feedback of the vast majority of BIMS employees. By proceeding with our initial findings we analyzed, displayed, and interpreted, the outcome shows that BIMS was experiencing high turnover due to low pay and lack of communication within the organization. This information provided to be promising from the perspective that we were narrowing down to the core issues within BIMS; it just was not relevant enough for management to determine an effective course of action or forecasting and making the necessary changes for better employee satisfaction. At this point, we have been revisited by BIMS management to analyze and interpret a second set of data through responses and surveys that has been adjusted in...

...Research Process and Methodologies Study Guide Ebony McClain HCS/465-Health Care Research Utilization December 14, 2015 Dr. Donna M. Lewis Lee Research Process and Methodologies Study Guide Steps in Research Process There are a total of seven steps in the research process, which are the following: Identify the research problem, review information, clarify the problem, prepare the research proposal, data collection, data analysis, and interpretation and works cited report. Research Problem In order to first, define the problem, it is important to understand the problem thoroughly and having the capability of rearticulating the problem into terms that easily understood from another point of view. The research problem may be considered as a problem with the individual or the organization. Review Information Next, in the research process is reviewing the information related to the problem that has been identified. The researcher is responsible for investigating the problem further. Additional reviewing of sources are needed to gain more insight of the problem. During the second step of the research process, researchers should gain a better understanding of the extent of the underlying issue, anticipate how the problem will expand or decrease in the future, as well as identifying strategies to overcome the issue. Clarify problem Third, establishing a theory or in other words, clarifying the problem is important. In order to have a less confusing and...

...BAM535 Advanced Human Resource Management Unit 1 Question #2: Job analysis is a key HR function. Provide an overview of the job analysis process, including brief descriptions of key job analysis techniques. Job analysis is defined as the process used to collect information about the task, responsibilities of a given job, duties (which can include frequency, duration, skill, effort etc.) and outcomes and work environment (can include unpleasant conditions and extreme temperatures. These can include definite risk) of a particular job. It usually answers questions like who does the work, where does the work come from and what equipment is used. The job analysis is completed by the HR and a line manager or an incumbent. A job analysis is an analysis of the job and not the person so you stick to the jobs description and not the personal effects of an employee. There are several tools that can be used to conduct a job analysis. I will briefly discuss observations, interviews, questionnaires and surveys and checklist. The first, observations is watching employees do their jobs and writing down notes. The observer can do some of the job task themselves and ask questions to the employees while they work. The second, interviews is a face-to-face tool. The interview is best when there is a specific set of questions based on the observations. The third, questionnaires and surveys are usually responded to by expert incumbents or upper management. Questionnaires...

...McDaniel &ump; Gates (2007) as the “planning, collections, and analysis of data relevant to marketing decision making and the communication of the results of this analysis to management”. Key information is acquired, analyzed, and preserved by allowing the organization to make decisions utilizing statistical information found by primary and secondary research. Market research is grouped into two categories, primary and secondary, of which is defined by the source that collected data information to solve a specific problem. Primary data research is done by the organization for a specific objective and customized to meet that need. Aakar, Kumar, &ump; Day (2007) define primary data as being collected for a specific purpose. If, for example, an organization is trying to figure out the customer satisfaction rate of it shoppers for a particular product by use of an online survey, the information gathered is considered primary data research. Secondary data research is data information that has already been gathered by a separate entity for a different purpose. They further describe this secondary data as being already available, as it was gathered for a different purpose rather than the solving the present specific problem (Aakar, Kumar, &ump; Day, 2007). An example of this would be population information taken from the Census to be applied as supportive and enhanced data in a marketing plan. Research Tool: Interviews Interviews are a form of primary data gathered for a specific and...

...Methods Method This research will be conducted using the qualitative method. It will be used to answer both questions from past educators and present educators. They case study will involve interviews and surveys from past and current educators to determine their feelings on the NCLB act. It is being used to determine how they feel or felt about education of our children being downgraded to only memorization skills and being taught to test. Using this method will allow the educators to speak or answer freely without fear of reprisal. The interview responses will then be compared to the responses on the surveys. This will be used to determine if the educators are speaking freely in the interviews as they do with the anonomys surveys. In both the interview process and the survey process the participant’s information to include but not limited to name, school, sex, grade level, will be confidential. This is to ensure the reliability and validity of the study remains high. Participants The sample will consist of mostly middle class United States Midwestern adult educators ranging in age from 25-65 years of age. They will range in gender, with a focus on trying to get equal participants in both male and female. The schools will come from south eastern Wisconsin, and will include public, home, charter, and private schools. Some of these educators will still be teaching, and some will ended their teaching career since the enactment of the NCLB act. In these participants...

...Introduction Research is generally undertaken to assist in elaborating on and uncovering the complexities of real world problems. A problem statement was outlined and research questions were raised during the researcher’s literature review. This problem statement and research questions identified in the researchers literature review requires comprehensive and extensive research and analysis to facilitate the drawing of logical conclusions. The researcher’s literature review was based on addressing BIG DATA challenges using Semantic/Cloud Technologies and gives introduction to the pertinent propositions that will guide the strategy of the researcher’s research. Overview of Research Paradigm Willis (Willis 2007) illustrates that a paradigm is a comprehensive belief system, framework or world which guides research and practice in a specific field. Due to the multidimensional nature of the problem statement and research questions derived from the researcher’s literature review, the research will design research by...

...company reported earning well over 400 billion dollars (Walmart Inc., 2013; "Walmart- Refocus," 2006). Here in the third week of the needs assessment being conducted on behalf of our client BJ’s a division of Walmart Inc., the focus surrounds the collection and its analysis. Following the collection of data and a meeting was held with BJ’s management and a recommendation was made based on this analysis. The recommendations made was based on the findings generated from random customer satisfaction survey, selection process for focus groups, identifying and documenting key organizational objectives through questionnaires and surveys, collecting and tabulating responses from returned email questionnaires conducted over a two week period. As the world’s largest retailer, Walmart still faces the potential of not having the relative flexibility to act swiftly in response to changing global markets, fostering a universal company culture in all its locations, addressing the high rates of turnovers, or providing the same level of customer service and productivity globally. Realizing that there are several areas that need to be address using data collected from several source, random customer survey, employee surveys and questionnaire, small focus groups, the data determined the best approach to achieving improvement in alignment with the company’s goal is to address the issue of poor job satisfaction, which data indicates is a direct result of high turnover rates seen by Walmart...
