Coming To School Research Paper

Have you ever talked to someone who said they actually enjoyed school? If you were to ask me that question, I would have to say not very many students said yes. This is because school isn't the place where most kids go to have a great time. You see all your friends and you get to hangout with them all day, but the work that comes along with it isn't always as enjoyable as your friends. This has come to the point where kids really don't want to go to school at all, so they're always in a bad mood when they're there. Have you ever asked yourself, "What could be done to make school a better place to go?" Well I have, and I have come up with a couple good solutions to this problem. Coming to school with a positive attitude for the day could be …show more content…
It can happen! School is a place where your stress level goes up due to the priorities you have. So, sometimes we do need a coffee break or socializing break. It would be perfect in between classes. A little time to refresh your brain and allow it to recharge would be good, instead of cramming a bunch of information all at once. During school, especially high school, people have high expectations for you, so you have to do your best to make it the best you possibly can. That's the perspective I try and put it in. Yes it sucks having to go to school for seven hours and then three hours of homework later, but have you ever put it in perspective of at least I'm getting an education! We are blessed to be able to go to school and learn so you need to be positive when you go upon things. Waking up and saying, "I'm going to have a great day," is going to help it be a better day, you just need to try it …show more content…
That's how it works when you have a job. You get paid for working, so why don't we get paid for going to school? We are working for good grades and making your parents happy so shouldn't we get a reward? I believe we do! School takes a lot of determination to get things done. So, if you really want kids to do well in school, why don't you give them a reward for their hard work? It could really work! Students will more than likely work ten times harder on school work if they knew they would get a reward, such as money or food for doing their homework. We use to have reward systems in elementary school to help us work hard, so we should use them again. I believe it will really help students with their learning habits and with getting their homework

Why I Hate Coming To School Research Paper

...Why do you think it’s okay to make someone hate coming to school? Or is it because you haven't put much thought into it at all. Have you ever thought about the consequences that your actions have? It baffles me that some of you can come to school everyday, talk about people behind their back, and then just go on with your life. You have no clue about the stuff they have going on at home. That kid you laughed at today in class for saying the wrong answer, considered killing themselves because even when they go home, their parents make fun of them. Or that kid, that stutters when they read doesn’t talk much outside of class because they saw you give your friend a smirk. Does it make you feel good? I’m standing up here reading this and you might be thinking “oh my gosh, she needs to calm down”. I have been on the end...

Premarital Sex Premarital Sex and Religion The Catholic Church teaches that premarital sex is wrong, yet it is still widely practiced around the world. The reason marriage was created was to join two people of the opposite sex together in a holy sacrament that would make the couple one. God's reason for marriage is quoted in the bible when he said, "For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh" . The Sacrament of marriage is one of the most sacred Sacraments in the Catholic Religion. By performing premarital sex, the couple is breaking a covenant with God and is performing a sin. Marriage is the joining of a couple in the eyes of God and in the eyes of the State. When two people are joined into marriage they become...

Reflective Essay: The Effects Of The Pollution In The Chesapeake Bay

... how to find scholarly, peer reviewed sources, and how to use the Boatwright library website. In public school I was not taught the importance of scholarly work nor how to find it. The only time I was assigned a major research project was in my senior year of high school. I went to one of the specialty schools in the Richmond Public Schools system. Two of the requirements for graduation was the freshman paper and the senior thesis. Looking back, I remember how hard I was struggling in completing my freshmen paper. It was about the effects of the pollution in the Chesapeake Bay. The 10 page paper required extensive research with 350 flashcards, 3 drafts, and a class trip to the Chesapeake Bay at the end of...

Experience as a Writer

...Experiences As A Writer My experience as a writer started in high school and is continuing at the present time while I’m in the Army. High school gave me my first real writing experience because I had to actually take the time to come with a thesis statement, write a rough draft, revise, redraft, and turn in a final draft of my paper. Not only did that have to occur you have to conduct research on your paper, site what you researched, and put it all together to make one coherent flow smooth paper. After High school I came straight into the Army as I was taught the Army writing style which means no long and drawn out writing but getting straight to the point. My experiences writing in the Army has to come from writing different types of memorandums, counseling statements, and Non-Commissioned Officers Evaluation Reports. As I progressed through the ranks in the military I had to attend many schools in which writing was a big part of passing the course. Now I am the Head supervisor in my section which means that I spend a lot of time behind a computer and in meetings planning out the unit’s missions. Now my next writing experience is coming from my classes from my instructors at Strayer University on a collegiate level. This is going to be more challenging for me since I haven’t written research papers in twelve years. All I am used to is writing short simple straight to the point memorandums and counseling statements. I am in store for some new learning material and...

Youth and Behaviorism

...cause of mental health problems, but for this study, we will not look at the mental health issues that cause behavior issues.   A growing body of research has examined the cause of youth violence, among peers and parental relationships. The world we are living in today is full of violent images; from video games to movies, even much of today’s music can promote a violent message. There are other external influences that can also influence many children’s behaviors; such as impoverishment, inferior living conditions, inadequate housing, which often leads to illicit activities; such as drug and alcohol abuse and other criminal activities.  In this research study, we will try to answer several questions the effects of violent images, or video games may have on our youth today. We will also examine if coming from a broken home has any direct correlation on the behavior of the child or children? This paper will examine several studies on this subject in the hopes of discovering the possible solutions to the questions raised in this paper. * Do violent images, video games, etc. influence children’s behavior? * Does coming from a broken, or abusive home, etc. influence children’s behavior? * Do children raised in a typical two parent household have an advantage over those raised in single family households? * Can coming from an urban area influence bad behavior in children?  In the first study I examined, researchers concluded that children who are born and live under...

Smartphones

...elow is a free essay on "Smartphones" from Anti Essays, your source for free research papers, essays, and term paper examples. In our generation, almost everyone has a phone or at least a smartphone because they have become more and more popular among teens as they are getting cheaper in the market. They are a huge necessity rather than a want so why should we be permitted to use them in school? In addition to the standard phone features like calling and texting, smartphones make it easier to browse the web, study for a test, or even do a little bit of research. So, using them in class would be a pragmatic way to improve standardized test scores, help students stay more organized and educated, and schools could save the money that is used for computers and use it for more efficient things. In addition, app developers are coming out with thousands of education-centered apps in the market like Quizlet, Flashcards ++ (an app that allows you to create your own flashcards and review them on your phone), Evernotes (an app that helps you record notes), and much more; which would make it a convenient study tool. According to the Campus Technology article, smartphones today “have the computing power of a mid-1990s personal computer” and a possession of a smartphone is like having knowledge and resources at your fingertips, literally. Most teachers and parents are tenacious about the use of smartphones in class being a huge distraction, but things always have their ups and downs...

Draftinging Skills Reflection

...Ever since I participated in this class my skills have greatly improved and have been reinforced. The drafting process for the profile and research paper assignments have taught me alot about where and how I need to improve my writing abilities. During the profile assignment I had some difficulty expanding on the information I was given during my interview and was just listing off the facts about who I interviewed. I fixed this initial rush job by slowing down and expressing her feelings and experiences in greater detail. If I had more time I might have interviewed my teacher again to get more details to add to my project specifically more on her initial experiences coming to the US. The research paper was probably the most difficult drafting process that I have had yet this semester. While autism was a subject that I had a lot of experience and passion...

Leadership Styles

...Leadership Styles and School Effectiveness Labels: Change Management Research Proposals, Leadership Research Proposals, Strategic Management Research Proposals, Travel Research Proposals Introduction The human mind is like a mine bestowed with billions of innovative seeds, and every one of those seeds can grow a fruitful tree of new inventions. At home, the education of a newly born child starts from the lap of a mother, for whom it is an obligatory privilege to look after her child. Education starting in the dark-age has been transformed as it has passed from mind to mind and race to race, based on spiritually traditional ways of learning, observations, and experiences. The acquisition of knowledge began with the informal learning process at home to formal learning in institutions or schools. In this way, knowledge was progressively traveling down different paths and in different ways through human minds. In recent years, the advent of new technologies from photocopying machines to computer programs, optical scanners, and telecommunication networks has contributed to knowledge transformation. Moreover, today, the dominance of digital technologies and distorted media information has set the stage for the human mind to be idle. It can be thought that the idleness of mind is not due to insufficient or a lack of information and ideas for knowledge development but rather the inevitability of creating multiple choices and overloading us with information. Here, the ramifications...

Study Habit

...intelligence you have, you are not going to succeed at solving complex problems without knowing a lot. That's why we spend the first 20 (or more) years of our lives in school. Robert Bjork and fellow PT blogger Nate Kornell have explored some of the study habits of college students in a 2007 paper in Psychonomic Bulletin & Review. Research on memory provides a number of important suggestions about the most effective ways to study. One of the most important tips is that students should study by testing themselves rather than just reading over the material. It is also important to study over a period of days rather waiting until the last minute to study. Kornell and Bjork's studies suggest that only about 2/3 of college students routinely quiz themselves, and a majority of students study only one time for upcoming exams. Of course, guidelines from memory research come from studies in idealized circumstances. Researchers bring participants (many of whom are college students) into a lab and ask them to learn material. Perhaps the recommendations drawn from these studies are not that helpful for real students dealing with real courses. To address this question, Marissa Hartwig and John Dunlosky related the study habits of college students to their grade point average (GPA) in a 2012 paper in Psychonomic Bulletin & Review. They asked students about a number of study behaviors. They also had students report their current GPA. The students with...

How to Succeed in Graduate School

...How to Succeed in Graduate School: A Guide for Students and Advisors Submitted to Crossroads, October 1994 Marie desJardins marie@erg.sri.com Abstract This paper attempts to raise some issues that are important for graduate students to be suc¬cessful and to get as much out of the process as possible, and for advisors who wish to help their students be successful. The intent is not to provide prescriptive advice – no formulas for finishing a thesis or twelve-step programs for be¬coming a better advisor are given – but to raise awareness on both sides of the advisor-student relationship as to what the expectations are and should be for this relationship, what a graduate student should expect to accomplish, common problems, and where to go if the advisor is not forthcoming. Introduction This article originated with a discussion I had with several women professors about the prob¬lems women face in graduate school, and how more women could be encouraged to go to grad¬uate school in computer science. Eventually, the conversation turned to the question of what these women could do in their interactions with women students to support and encourage them. I volunteered that over the course of my gradu¬ate career I had collected a variety of papers and e-mail discussions about how to be a good ad-visor, how to get through graduate school, and issues facing women. They were eager to get this material, and I told them I would sort through it when I got a chance. After mentioning...

Modern Racism In America Today

...The title of my research paper will be Modern racism. I choose this topic because of as an American that was born in Africa it is always something that has been an interest to me. I came to America around the age of seven. I was young, and coming from Nigeria we were not taught anything about racism. My views on racism in America didn't really come from studying the history of slavery and civil rights in America, but rather from personal experiences I went through. In elementary school even though I was taught the history of African American I never really understood the impact of slavery. I merely took what I was taught as part of the curriculum, which I needed to pass a test. I never really absorbed much from learning. Most of the racist...
