Why is competent communication so important in the field of Criminal Justice? Many of the criminal justice professions require strong written and oral communication skills. The reason for this is for the fact that they are professions and first impressions matters. I know that for instance a high ranking official, judge or maybe a politician. You would need to look at it that these high ranking officials will be reviewing what your write. I couldn’t imagine what I would do if I had a high ranking official come up to me and point out that it was hard to read what I had wrote. I feel that it would be embarrassing. Just imagine the impression you would leave on yourself for a poorly written document.

Let’s look at police officer and investigators. What if they had written a poorly worded document or badly written report could mean that a criminal being brought justice or actually going free, because of the poorly organized report. In many cases state and district attorneys will not prosecute defendants if the arrest report is flaw with errors. Reports really need to be well organized and to convey your train of thought. If they fail to get your point across then they have not served any purpose and your efforts would be wasted. Let’s also look at the media attention that you would get with a poorly written report and how it would look if the defendant in the case was freed due the poorly written in organized report.

So communication is vital in all we do, especially when it comes to Criminal Justice. You want to make sure that your thoughts are clearly conveyed in your reports so that it gives the receiver a clear message of what you want to convey.

So as the passage conveys 2 Peter 1:20, "Knowing this first that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation." Even we as Christian’s really need to make

Personal and Professional Healthcare Communication

...Personal and Professional Healthcare Communication Beatrice Williamson, RN University of Phoenix Health Care Communication HCS/350 Terrence A. Brown, PhD July 03, 2010 Personal and Professional Healthcare Communication Many professional leaders exclaim communication is the key to success in the areas of business, finance, health care, and personal relationships. Without effective communication, it is impossible to correctly convey what is expected from other health team members as well as information/education for the patient and family members. Basic communication situations are identified which include: interpersonal, organizational, public, small group, and mass communication. Health communication refers to “any type of human communication whose content is concerned with health…transactions can be verbal or nonverbal, oral or written, personal or impersonal, and issue oriented or relationship oriented…”(Northouse & Northouse, 1998). Groups The health care environment poses many challenges to effectively communicate to co-workers i.e. nurses, physicians, lab personnel, etc. as well as with patients. When educating patients in the group setting, we need to be cognizant of goals, cohesion, and leader behavior. Goals must be established for individuals and groups. Individual goals are based on the patient’s personal needs and desires and may or may not be associated with the goals of the group. Group...

What are three types of disconfirming communication, and how can we respond with specific types of assertive metacommunication? Three types of disconfirming communication are: ignoring someone, not acknowledging others’ feelings, and not accepting others’ opinions and emotions. ...overweight individual tries on a shirt that is a bit tight on them and asks for an opinion form their fit friend, the friend blurts out, “I like the shirt, but it would fit better if you lost some weight”. If the fit friend had thought through the impact that their comment might have on their overweight friend, they probably would not said what they did, or would have found a different way to get their point across. One concept from Adler, Rosenfeld, and Proctor II’s work that can be linked into this FOR is the definition of competent communication. According to chapter 1, competent communication is both effective and appropriate. Blurting has been shown to be, quite often, the complete opposite of both of these things. As it is often, “Associated with a variety of less-than-positive traits,” it is often inappropriate; and in turn, it is usually negative, and hurtful to someone else, making it largely ineffective. Another concept of interpersonal communication that can be linked into the study in question is the idea that people like to be listened to because it makes them feel validated. One of the reasons that blurting is seen as a negative thing is that it is sometimes done by interrupted another individual who is speaking....

...Communication Style Case Study Sherryanne Paul-John HCS/350 August 24, 2015 Brenda Harton Communication Style Case Study Everything that's said and done conveys a message that is labeled communication. From the verbal style using pitch and tone to nonverbal cues of body language and touch. The nurse-client communicative relationship should reflect the caring nature embedded in our profession, to achieve positive outcomes of our work. Boggs (2011) states, effective communication has been shown to produce better health outcomes, greater client satisfaction, and increased client understanding. This paper will show communication styles from a personal perspective and three other scenarios within the healthcare setting. The discussion will focus on why communicating effectively is important in health care and how the outcome of these interactions could improve staff relations and impact patient care. A Personal Perspective: The clinic has six RNs and one aide, two teams came together due to a department merger. Moral was low, control was lost and as a result, an "us versus them" mentality became evident from the onset. Everyone was in passive aggressive mode on a daily basis. Everyone had strong personalities. The tension was palpable. The team was split in half and with no team spirit and no team efforts the problem has never been solved. Now conflict is a natural part of a human relationship; however, unresolved conflict interferes with success in meeting goals (Boggs...

Describe the Factors That Influence the Effectiveness of Interpersonal Communication

...interpersonal communication Interpersonal communication This process of sharing ideas and feelings between individuals. This can be improved through appropriate knowledge practices, feedback and reflection. Cultural influence Culture is referred to as customs, language, arts of a particular region. It includes learned values, beliefs and behaviors common to a group of individuals. Culture can be strong barrier to interpersonal communication between people of different cultures. Individuals from different cultures or background often carry an attitude that their own culture is superior to that of others. This hampers communication between groups from different cultures. For example: an individual who is ethnocentric in nature often is under the impression that anyone who doesn’t belong to their group is either strange or inferior. This perception prevents healthy social and political communication between the two parties. Power This is the ability to influence others and have strong self control under complex circumstances. All interpersonal communication or interactions reflect some form of power which maybe obvious or hidden. Obvious power refers to people who occupy a higher position in business and have to communicate with other employees. Supervision

...For a company to be successful, supervision is a vital part of a workplace. Management needs to ensure that supervision (their supervisors) is competent, knowledgeable, skilled, proficient, and fit to be supervisors. Employees must have proper instruction and training to guarantee that they are doing their jobs correctly. Supervision remains necessary for continuing skill and experience among associates. Poor supervision leads to problems and confiscates an essential part of the employee support process which in turn eliminates the opportunity for learning and reference. The chapter’s ‘Tip of the Iceberg’ is about mirroring (but not mimicking) or matching the style of another. The ‘Fundamental Concepts Supporting Communication Styles are listed as: 1. Individual differences exist and are important. 2. Individual style differences tend to be stable (refer Jung). 3. Alternative and Alternative Communication

...and alternative communication (AAC) is an umbrella term that encompasses the communication methods used to supplement or replace speech or writing for those with impairments in the production or comprehension of spoken or written language. AAC is used by those with a wide range of speech and language impairments, including congenital impairments such as cerebral palsy, intellectual impairment and autism, and acquired conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Parkinson's disease. AAC can be a permanent addition to a person's communication or a temporary aid. Modern use of AAC began in the 1950s with systems for those who had lost the ability to speak following surgical procedures. During the 1960s and 1970s, spurred by an increasing commitment in the West towards the inclusion of disabled individuals in mainstream society and developing the skills required for independence, the use of manual sign language and then graphic symbol communication grew greatly. It was not until the 1980s that AAC began to emerge as a field in its own right. Rapid progress in technology, including microcomputers and speech synthesis, have paved the way for communication devices with speech output and multiple options for access to communication for those with physical disabilities. AAC systems are diverse: unaided communication uses no equipment and includes signing and body language, while aided approaches use external tools and range from pictures and communication boards to speech...

I found this topic very relevant; in the world we live in today many married couples rapidly have found themselves turning to divorce as an answer. Finishing the fairy tale they had once fantasized. Moreover, there are certain well- known reasons that put people at higher risk for divorce and these are lack of commitment between the couples, marriage at a very early age, Infidelity, alcohol addiction, and physical abuse, and even financial problems. In my paper I used many resources, including online references, blogs, books, and articles. I also used reliable references when appropriate. Quoted my references and included a bibliography to strengthen my essay. I started off my paper with some background information about divorce general knowledge and basic points. I wrote my thesis statement and branched off with my main ideas. I went to elaborate my main ideas making sure to use supporting ideas and details. I also used various statistics, facts, and figures to support and toughen my points and restated my thesis into my conclusion to summarize my research paper. If I were to rewrite this paper now ...

Overview of Communicative Approach

...the formal structures. However, critics believe that there needs to be some sort of "bridge" between the two in order for effective language learning. Example Practising question forms by asking learners to find out personal information about their colleagues are an example of the communicative approach, as it involves meaningful communication. The communicative approach to learning a new language makes the teacher the facilitator. The interaction between student and teacher is paramount as well as collaborative learning. This type of learning uses techniques that help to convey the ideas, thoughts, feelings and information to reach others. The most critical aspect of this approach is the negotiation for meaning. The Task-based approach is carrying out certain task using the target language. An example would be to have students shop for a specific item. The teacher would first instruct them in the target language how to do this and then have them essentially do it. Notions and Functions The idea of communicative learning is broken up in notions and functions called Notional Functional Syllabus. A notion is a specific framework of communication and function is a particular purpose for a speaker in a precise context.
