Gun Free Zones Decrease Crimes

Most statistics point to where there are more guns there is less crime. Other people would argue that there is more crime in areas that allow guns. The facts and statistics show differently. Research shows that 98.4% of mass shooting between 1950 and July of 2016 have happened in gun-free zones (Analysis of Recent Mass Shootings). This percentage shows that almost all of the mass shootings from 1950 to 2016 have happened in gun-free zones such as schools, childcare facilities, state and national parks, and many other places that prohibit guns. It is safe to assume that gun free-zones will always be a target for criminals.

As the number of guns in America increased, violence decreased. Mark Perry, who is a professor of economics and finance

Arguments Against Gun Control

...without guns? Whether you’re for or against gun control, we’re all going to figure that out if something doesn’t change. Sure, some say that guns do so many horrible things, but in reality, if we enact stricter gun laws, things would only get worse. We need to protect our 2nd amendment right, because taking away our guns will not decrease violence, lessens our ability to defend ourselves, and will not prevent suicide. What would happen if there were no guns? Would crime rates increase or decrease? Would we live in a better country? The answer to these questions issimple. There would be more criminals on the streets, crime rates would increase, and our country would be in worse shape than it already is. Statistics show that countries with some of the most strict gun control such as Mexico and China have more homicides than the United States. Mexico and China are in the top 12 while the US falls farther down on the list (Kiprop and Crime). Gun ownership in the U.S. has increased and homicide rates have decreased....

Concealed Weapons in Gun Free Zones

...Concealed Weapons In Gun Free Zones Recently many people have started debating whether or not having a concealed weapon in a gun free zone is an intelligent and safe way to maintain protection. Allowing responsible citizens in good legal standing to carry concealed firearms in a lawful manner in gun free zones decreases certain types of violent crimes such as murder, property crime, and even mass shootings. The decline in these types of crime is due to rational behavior of criminals as a group and their fear of being shot by an armed citizen. Because most criminals fear being shot, the carrying of concealed weapons also produces a protective shield for individuals who do not carry firearms due to the fact that impending attackers would not be able to determine who is armed and who is not. Permitting private citizens to carry concealed firearms in a gun free zone is the most cost-effective way to fight these types of crimes. Connecticut is the home of one of the worst school shootings ever to have occurred in history. On December 14, 2012 Adam Lanza shot twenty children and six adults killing them all in a mass murder at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The first two to confront Adam were principal, Dawn Hochsprung, and school psychologist, Mary Sherlach (Taylor & Francis Online), they were quickly shot down by the gunman. It is widely believed that if either of the two had been trained with a weapon for self-defense and were permitted to carry a gun on school property then...

The Great Gun Debate

...The Great Gun Debate Introduction Among the more diverse issues in an already polarized society is a national perspective of guns (Hargrove & Perdue, 2015). The gun debate in the U.S. dates back to the 18th century, when the nation’s founders were crafting the Bill of Rights—the first ten amendments to the Constitution, adopted in 1791 (Smith & Ross, 2013). All gun control debates turn on interpretations of the Second Amendment, the worst written and most bizarre part of the constitution (Eichenwald, 2015). The Second Amendment gave Americans the right to “bear arms;” however, for more than 200 years, people have disagreed over how to interpret the amendment (Smith & Ross, 2013). Heated debates over guns have created division among “we the people.” On one end of the divide are pro-gun extremists. On the opposite end of the divide are anti-gun extremists. Then, there is the rational middle—the group that is often left out of the debate. This group typically consists of average law-abiding citizens who do not believe that Americans should be stripped of their rights to bear arms, but, rather, that some laws should be tightened up to ensure that guns and deadly accessories, such as high-capacity magazines, stay out of the wrong hands. Over the years, numerous mass shootings in schools have forced lawmakers to assess and tighten gun-control laws, which has also reignited the fiery gun debate. This assessment will attempt to uncover a proper course of action via a rigorous...

Gun Control

...Gun Control Laws Do Not Work Across the United States there have been many shootings and attacks. The most recent being in San Bernardino California where 14 innocent lives were taken. Most of these shootings are in schools, state buildings, movie theatres etc. Every public mass shooting in the USA since 1950 has taken place where citizens are banned from carrying guns. There are ways to end these people going on killing sprees once and for all. Many law abiding citizens are experienced and comfortable with a firearm. Imagine these people being able to take their concealed weapons into places that are now “no gun zones”. This would act as a deterrent against the people who go on killing sprees. At the least, law abiding citizens could save lives and protect themselves and others from sick individuals who have no regard for society. At a state level our country needs to get rid of mo gun zones. There are some individuals who are going to do what they please. All schools have rules that state “firearms are prohibited”. This sign does not stray psychopaths and or terrorists away from going in and shooting the whole school up. We need a good deterrent for these criminals. We need a way to protect ourselves against these people. In place we already have laws that allow us to have a conceal and carry license. In Missouri one must be 19 years of age and you must go through a background check with no felonies appearing on your record. Having a conceal and carry allows...

Gun Control Flaws

...I am a firm believer that gun control leads to more illegal violence. Gun control was designed to prevent crime; however, this design was flawed in the fact that it only controls legal acts and not criminal acts. There are many facts that show clear statistics to back my theory about gun control. There is already a system in place for felons to own guns. As well as there is a system in place for gun dealers to easily determine whether or not someone can rightfully own a firearm. It has been proven countless times that having a set of stricter gun law does not work. Looking at some of the highlights from the 2004 Gun Control Fact Sheet reveals some interesting facts. * Guns are used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense. Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year—or about 6,850 times a day.(1) This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives. Administrator has expressed their concern (1) The more people that can legally possess a firearm can help to reduce the crime rate across the US. Reliable information on both gun ownership and murder rates in the U.S are available only for the period from the end of WWII on. The general pattern since WWII is that, decade-by-decade, the number of guns owned by civilians has risen steadily and dramatically – but murder rates nevertheless remained stable or even declined. Over the entire...

Gun Control Debate

...Gun Control Debate By Mary Dyke, Lindsey Kjer, Stuart Moneymaker, Christina Marquez and Josh Marr BCOM/275 April 15, 2013 Gun Control Debate Gun control is a heated topic for debate right now in the United States. Many people are pro-gun control while others are against it. One fact is: “The Second Amendment only restricts the federal and state governments from imposing gun control that would completely deprive citizens of the right to defend their homes and their right to take part in defending their liberties as members of a national militia” (Charles, 2013). There is always some level of gun control. It can rise of course, but they cannot be taken away to their entirety. There are many pros to debate as well as cons. As gun control is discussed, we will come across ethical, moral, and legal issues. The Pros of Gun Control Do we not have enough gun violence occurring in today’s society that we feel the need to grant Americans permission to bear arms? Regulation of guns is a necessary action that needs to be taken in order to save lives.  Gun control is an effort to stop the rise in violent crime by strengthening laws on the ownership of firearms. “According to studies, 54 percent of Americans say stricter laws would reduce the number of deaths caused by mass shootings.” Terrorism, schools shootings and other modern circumstances cannot be prevented all together; however stricter gun laws will limit the access to firearms and decrease the rate of deaths. Many...

Gun Control

...protects the Americans right to keep and bear arms. Gun control is a law suggesting regulation and restriction of the possession of guns. But is it really protecting society? Gun control only keeps law abiding citizens from obtaining firearms. Criminals will always have ways of getting weapons; whether it be from the black market, across borders, or illegal street sales. If a person cannot follow the sacred laws of the land, new gun laws won’t do much to stop them. After all, they are known to break the laws. As the saying goes; where there’s a will, there’s a way. Gun control laws should not be implemented because they will not stop crime, they will only disarm those who are not inclined or determined to commit crimes. The Bill of Rights was ratified in 1791. The 2nd amendment states “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed“ (Mount 1). Why would the founders of our country go through the trouble of adding an amendment to the Constitution, the governing document for the country, if they didn't intend for it to effect government action? The whole point of the Bill of Rights was to limit government action and power. Those who support gun control laws are interpreting the 2nd amendment in their own way, while firearm enthusiasts think that their freedom is being attacked (Mount 2). In 2008 in the District of Columbia, The Supreme Court ruled that the amendment explicitly protects Americans’ right to own guns for self-defense. The court mentioned that it is...

Having tighter gun control laws is not the solution for all those massacres that are occurring nation-wide in the USA but in fact, it will result in an increase in crime rates. First of all, law abiding citizens should have the right to bare arms for self-defense. If gun control laws are to be enforced, criminals will still be able to obtain guns through a number of different means which could include the black market leaving law abiding...

High School Shooting Research Paper

...on the maryland school shooting where a teenager fired rounds in his school but was stopped by an armed school officer, stopping the shooting before anyone could get seriously hurt. The shooter Rollins a 17 year old, was not armed with an assault rifle or any rifle for that fact, instead he was armed with what most shooters would use, a handgun. This may be why the media did not want to cover this extensively, because it was not an assault rifle used and/or the fact that authorities actually did their jobs and stopped the shooter. The anti gun liberals are using the media and the minds of young liberals to advance their goal in banning all guns, possibly getting rid of the second amendment. After many tragedies the media have always said that the current shooting is the worst one yet, the “deadliest school shooting ever” when this is not the case. In the recent Parkland shooting it was...
