1. Date: The first transition that I did was on September 30th.
Identify the transition time: For this transition, I assisted the classes in switching classes and going back to their homerooms. I decided to start out with this transition, because it seemed a bit easier than taking a class to a special. I took the class that was in Mrs. Werne’s room back to their homeroom class from science, and then I picked up my Mrs. Werne’s class from math and took them back to our classroom.
What management strategies or procedures did you use with the students? Since this was the first transition that I did on my own, I was a bit nervous. Since I wasn’t taking the class very far, it was hard to think of strategies to use for just a short period …show more content…
As we were walking, I heard a few people talking and stopped the class one time. I told them to face the front and voices off, and they were quiet most of the way. When I have taken classes to specials in the past, I had another peer teacher helping me to make sure the rest of the line was quiet. This was the most difficult thing for me because I had to control the whole class by myself. When students started to talk, I felt like it looked bad on my teaching. Otherwise, I think that it was pretty successful since I only had to stop the class one time. When we got to the music room, the class had to wait out in the hall, so I told them to remember about getting the four points and they started getting quieter. Some of the students started turning around and talking, but I reminded them to be quiet again.
What would you have done differently? If I were to do this again, I think that I would have set my own expectations ahead of time, besides the normal ones that Mrs. Werne expects. I think that sometimes I expect different things than Mrs. Werne, so this is something that I wish that I did. I definitely want to do this if I do transitions again and when I do my lessons. I think that if I were to do this, I wouldn’t have to stop the class at all on the way to the music

Adolescence is an important period when a child adjusts physically, learns new cognitive abilities, forms positive social relationships, develops a positive sense of self, and forges a personal code of ethics and morality (Eccles, Midgley,1989;Jackson & Davis,2000). Schools, along with peers and families, play an important role in fostering young peoples’ healthy development through the adolescent years (Meece, 2003). Thus, ignoring the developmental needs of students in school might result in the students developing a wrong notion of school until adulthood. Archival data from 838 cases (12% of which were ELL cases) within five mid-Atlantic public school districts implementing IC Teams were analyzed for outcomes using logistic regression. Results included statistically significant differences in ELL versus non-ELL student initial team referral (IC or other prereferral intervention team) and ultimate IEP Team referrals. Initial referral concerns also differed significantly between ELL and non-ELL students. IC Teams were found to be more effective than existing prereferral intervention teams in decreasing the special education referrals of ELL and non-ELL students. The results of the present study serve as a foundation for future research in the areas of at-risk ELL students and their referrals to prereferral intervention teams and special education.
