Over the last decade classrooms have become more inclusive. Teachers are receiving more support and training on the benefits of an inclusive classroom. The evidence supporting the benefits of an inclusive classroom is astounding. No research has shown any negative effects of an inclusive classroom. However, despite the benefits, research and training teachers still have many challenges within an inclusive classroom. As a professional with a continual drive to educate myself in order to better serve my students needs. Different situations pose a new opportunity to research and learn strategies for all students to be included in the classroom. I believe inclusion benefits all students, not just those with a disability. Some of the challenges …show more content…
As an educator when you proactively designing lessons following UDL goals you end up providing improved access to the curriculum for all. Research has examined the math, language, literacy, and cognitive outcomes of children with disabilities in inclusive classrooms. Phillips and Meloy (2012) found that both children with disabilities and typically developing children who attended an inclusive high quality prekindergarten program made significant gains in early literacy scores but not in early math. In a study performed by Green and Gallagher (2014) they found generally positive impacts on the language and literacy of children with disabilities in inclusive classrooms that established strong teaching practices and learning environments as part of the federally funded Early Reading First initiative. …show more content…
