...euphoria.†For our investment simulation project, we started out with TK. 10, 00,000 cash at our disposal which we invested in the trading of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) stocks, which is a bullish market. However, investing in such a volatile market required good initial research, investment strategies, and a well-diversified portfolio .Since this was a three-phase project, some adjustments were made to offset market downturns and ultimately increase the portfolio value in our account. As the market was unpredictable, our strategies were focused on risk minimization as well as loss minimization by diversifying our portfolio & by observing other measurement tools like Sharpe ratios, Jensen alpha, correlations & others. In addition our portfolio management was not intensified into these formulas as we also considered some of our predictions about this volatile market & companies. 2. Objective: The main objective of our project is to build up strong investment strategies to cope up with this volatile market with maximizing after tax wealth. To do this we realized that diversifying our portfolio would be the best strategy & that’s why we tried to invest in more than ten industries so that downturn in one sector can be offset by the rise in another sectors stock return. Therefore, while determining our investment mix, we allocated our asset among investments in various industries. Thus, in our asset allocation process, we included investments from industries such...

...Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION Introduction We all know that Bank is nothing but a financial institution. And it’s a very much well known word to all of us. Bank actually serves as a financial intermediary. The term "Bank" may refer to one of several related types of entities like: Central bank, State- owned Commercial bank, Private Commercial bank or Merchant bank, Foreign Commercial bank, Specialized Development bank, etc. But when we use the term bank it generally means ‘commercial bank’ that collects the deposit from surplus unit of the society and then lends the deposits to the deficit units of the society. But the new thing is that how it operates and presenting its activities for the purpose of serving customer requirements to increase their well-being in the sense of wealth. Banks also provide many services for clients to make their life easy in this busy environment. In this competitive environment in today’s world, the entire bank increases their facilities in favor of their customers to retain them and capture more share of the market to be leader. The whole banking system is based on the Interest system. But according to the Islamic rules interest is not legal. So many people, who could be the potential customers of Bank, feel not to engage themselves in the banking system. To facilitate them in addition of the Conventional banking System there is another System we can see a banking world that run according to Shariah. This system established...

...Stock Trak Investment Report [Portfolio Investment Analysis] Portfolio management is an important factor that determines the performance of the portfolio. To perform well in the portfolio, it is not only essential to develop personal investment strategies, but analyzing current financial trend is also vital. Stock Trak is an online portfolio simulation that allows students to try out different investment strategies, and also get a hand on experience in what the real market trading conditions are. By managing the portfolio, I have acquired some new knowledge of investment strategies and also become more familiar with the current market by following closely to the financial headlines. My portfolio composed of only a few specific stocks of some large information technology companies. The main compositions are Apple Inc., Google Inc., and International Business Machines Corp (IBM). By investing different stocks in the same industry, it comes to my attention that even though they are in the similar category, the life cycles of these stocks are still very different. It is interesting to compare and analyze the different progress of those companies, and also to see how different factors affecting the performance of a specific stock and the portfolio as a whole. [Portfolio Performance Analysis] My overall return is 7.92%, which is about average and is a little over performed comparing to the S&P 500 average of 7.71% during the same period of time. ...Week 1 – Investment Portfolio Strategy Strategy: I will be using the bottom-up approach for my investment strategy. A Bottom up approach assumes that individual companies can do well even in an industry that is not performing very well. This is the opposite of "top-down investing". Making sound decisions based on a bottom-up investing strategy entails a thorough review of the company in question. This includes becoming familiar with the company's products and services, its financial stability and its research reports. The reason I have chosen the bottom- up approach for my strategy is simply because this approach focuses on the analysis of individual stocks. This allows me (the investor) to focus my attention on a specific company rather than on the industry in which that company operates or on the economy as a whole. The method in which I went about putting my strategy together was quite simple. I decided to familiarize myself with the different markets in the US and Europe and looked into the different denominations in each market. I then looked in the European Market at the companies in each of the Indices (FTSE 100, DAX & STOXX50) and chose companies who wore on either making a steady profit or breaking even and aspiring to make a profit soon. I also did the same for the American market and its indices (DOW, S&P 500 and NASDAQ). I focused my attention in particular to the big and well known multinationals to invest in such as Apple and Microsoft etc as I only...

Just over 160 million people live in this country with approximately 800,000 of them living in the capital city of Abuja which is located in the very center of Nigeria. (Nigeria) Nigeria has two distinct reputations. One as a corrupt and violent country that is not highly recommended for tourist type visitations (although it does have incredibly interesting historical sights) and the other for being the country visited mostly for unbelievably lucrative business transactions involving oil and gas. The Nigerian people live mostly in poverty in a country where oil and gas exports total billions in revenue. This is due to the fact that the Nigerian government has total control over their property rights. In addition corruption within that government runs rampant. According to an article by Michael Burleigh 70% of Nigerians live below poverty level struggling to survive. (Burleigh) What is even more interesting in a country rich in oil and gas is that the poverty...

Since its incorporation in 1955, McDonald's Corporation has spanned its services over 119 countries in 6 continents. About 80% of the restaurants are run by franchisees or through joint ventures with local business-people. The popular chain is well known for its Big Macs, Quarter Pounders, and Chicken McNuggets as well as more recent additions in response to changing customer palates - salads, wraps and smoothies. Analyzing Industry Strengths and Weaknesses As investors (current or future), this will help us identify trends in order to gauge revenue growth over time. ... receive a minimal benefit as report complexity has continued to increase which in most cases lead to higher processing costs. Arthur Levitt, former SEC chairman has said that “In many cases, the problem is not a lack of information; it is actually quite the opposite. To much information can be as much of a problem as to little and more disclosure does not always mean better disclosure.” More information and disclosure, especially to small investors is seen as a negative attribute as it once again comes back to higher processing costs from resources they do not have. This makes it rather difficult for small investors to make an informed investment decision surrounding the filing date of a company’s 10-k. Hypotheses Brian Miller derived two hypotheses, with one consisting of an A & B format surrounding the effects of reporting complexity on small and large investors in order to guide his research. The first hypothesis H1(a) is Total abnormal trading around a 10-K is lower when reports are more complex. Mr. Miller stated that if reports become complex (based on the length & readability), forecasting the profitability and sustainability of future growth from these reports becomes difficult. Investors in this case may simply choose not to invest in companies that produce such complex 10-k reports, which would ultimately lead to a lower abnormal trading volume. H1(b) states that The effects of report complexity on abnormal trading ...

...Memo To: Outside CPA From: CC: Manager Date: April 25, 2011 Re: CPA Report Below I have summarized an explanation to the questions that came about during your examination of a subsidiary that has been set up as a corporation. • The methodology used to determine deferred taxes. The deferred taxes reported are a temporary difference. The deferred taxes were calculated based on what needed to be reported versus what has been posted to the corporations’ books. The “temporary difference is the difference between the tax basis of an asset or liability and its reported (carrying or book) amount in the financial statements, which will result in taxable amounts or deductible amounts in future years” (Kieso, el. 2007, Ch. 19). The corporation has taken the balance sheet approach to account for this timing issue and SFAS 109 guidelines have been followed. • The procedures for reporting accounting changes and error corrections. According to Kieso, Weygandt, and Warfield (2007, Ch. 22), and the Financial Accounting Standards Board [FASB], reporting accounting changes should be done using the retrospective approach. The retrospective approach reflects the changes done in previous financial statements so that they are more comparable. To report these changes first the corporation adjusts each prior period financial statements and then the corporation “adjusts the carrying amounts of assets and liabilities as of the beginning of the first year presented”...

...Nestlé Code Management System | Training Nestlé employees involved in marketing of breast-milk substitutes are regularly trained on the WHO Code. | Nestlé has developed a unique global programme to ensure compliance with the WHO Code across all Nestlé’s operations. GES Investment Services, Northern Europe’s leading analysis firm for socially responsible investments, published a report on “The Infant Food Industry and the WHO Code”. This report is the first of its kind assessing and comparing infant food companies’ compliance procedures with respect to the WHO Code. It concluded: “Nestlé has the most elaborated policies and mechanisms to address the Code, distinctly ahead of its peers”. Nestlé's implementation of the WHO Code includes the following: * Nestlé Policy and Instructions * Training, testing and compensation on WHO Code knowledge * Nestlé WHO Code Management System * Internal Ombudsman System * Internal and External Audits * Internal and External Reporting Nestlé Policy and Instructions First published in 1982, these were developed to ensure complete and correct implementation of the WHO Code by Nestlé. This became necessary because the WHO Code, as a recommendation to governments, does not supply implementation instructions. This is left to national regulation, which may be absent or weaker than the WHO requirements. Training, testing and compensation on WHO Code knowledge Nestlé trains personnel involved in marketing of breast-milk...
