...Failures Paper Charles Persinger University of Phoenix POS/355 Jeff Rugg April 28, 2014 Simply put, distributed computing is allowing computers to work together in groups to solve a single problem too large for any one of them to perform on its own. Distributed computing is not a simple matter of just sticking the computers together. For a distributed computation to work effectively, those systems must cooperate, and must do so without lots of manual intervention by people. This is usually done by splitting problems into smaller pieces, each of which can be tackled more simply than the whole problem. The results of doing each piece are then reassembled into the full solution. As handy as a distributed system can be there are a there are four main issues you could face: Operating system failures, Hardware Failures, Omission Failures and Byzantine Failures. Crash failures are caused across the server of a typical distributed system and if these failures are occurred operations of the server are halt for some time. Operating system failures are the best examples for this case and the corresponding fault tolerant systems are developed with respect to these affects. Hardware failures used to be more common, but with all of the recent innovations in hardware design and manufacturing they tend to be fewer and far between with most of these physical failures tending to be network or drive related. With more hardware the probability goes up that there will...

...Source: Marin County sues Deloitte: Alleges fraud on SAP project The success or failure of implementing ERP software depends on a number of factors. I will look at the case Marin County sues Deloitte: Alleges fraud on SAP project. Marin County filed a complaint against Deloitte Consulting for its role in an over-budget SAP implementation. The lawsuit alleges Deloitte committed fraud and misrepresented its skills and experience. One of the reasons why this ERP system failed was Deloitte knew the County didn’t have any prior ERP or SAP implementation experience and knew it would be depending on Deloitte to guide and manage the project. The complaint also states that Deloitte mishandled staffing, project management, risk management, and testing. When implementing ERP software customers, software vendors, and system integrators typically share responsibility for project success of failure. However, customers purchasing complex systems, such as ERP software, do have a high responsibility that their own projects outcome is successful. In Marin’s contract suggested the County was concerned about its own ability to manage the project properly. Being concerned with your own company’s ability to manage a project in the early stage of implementation is not a good thing and Marin County should’ve controlled the conversation with their system integrators and lead from that premise. It’s up to the customer such as Marin County to lead and drive the result of their ERP implementation project...

...Examining a Business Failure Paper Rhonda Ellis-Thomas LDR/531 May 30, 2012 Dr. Felicia A. Bridgewater Examining a Business Failure Paper 2002 has witnessed its share of scandals. Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, and Global Crossing are just a few names to mention. WorldCom, the nation’s No. 2 long-distance phone company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July 2002, approximately one month after it publicized that it had indecorously booked $3.8 billion in expenses (Beltran, 2002). The purpose of this paper is to describe how specific organizational-behavior theories could have predicted or explained the company’s failure and compare and contrast how leadership, management, and organizational structures contributed to the failure. From 1991 to 2002, WorldCom has efficaciously acquired 65 companies in which 11 of the companies were established in the first six years. WorldCom was the second largest long distance telecommunication company being succeeded by AT&T. The company has accrued over $40 billion of debt (Moberg & Romar). During this time, WorldCom was headed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bernard Ebbers and Chief Finance Officer (CFO) Scott Sullivan. The CEO and CFO generated a structural philosophy, or belief, where the leaders and the managers are not to be suspected or questioned (Scharff, 2005). These behaviors lead to unethical and deluded activities that would later cause the fall of...

...Running Head: ENRON BUSINESS FAILURE Examining a Business Failure Paper Enron Rachel Y. Pointer University of Phoenix LDR/531 Ernest Price, Instructor January 17, 2010 Enron Business Failure One of the world’s most catastrophic business failures was Enron. Unveiled in October 2001, this scandal involves the renowned energy company Enron in conjunction with the accounting, auditing and consultancy schemes of Arthur Andersen. Enron disgraces ultimately lead the organization to a scandal that resulted in the biggest economic failure in United States history (TIME Enron, 2001). The Enron scandal also destroyed one of the foremost accounting agencies in the world, Arthur Andersen. Enron’s downfall was the result of their choice of accounting practices, in particular target entities and poor financial reporting. Enron’s accounting structure had so many loopholes that it was unproblematic for Andrew Fastow, the organization’s chief financial officer, to mask billions in debt from failed transactions and schemes. Fastow and other main executives purposely misinformed the organization’s board of directors and audit commission. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) began an investigation into Enron after the organization’s stock price began to plummet and Dynegy offered to purchase Enron at a price much lower than normal market price. When the Dynegy deal did not happen, Enron filed for bankruptcy on December 2, 2001 under Chapter 11 of the...

...Kidney failure is a disorder of the functioning of the kidneys. It is due to a progressive and irremediable destruction of the channels that constitute the kidney. Result: the blood is no longer filtered, the waste of the body is no longer eliminated and accumulate in the urine. When your kidney fails, that means, they are not able to keep your whole body in balance, they will not be able to remove any waste products and extra water from your body. They are also involved in regulating blood pressure, electrolyte balance, and red blood cell production in the body (Wedro, 2017). There exist two different types of kidney failure, which is the acute kidney failure and chronic kidney failure. When you have been diagnosed a failure of kidney, you have the option to talk to your doctor who will help you to determine which treatment option will be better for you between dialysis (hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) and kidney transplantation....

... March 11, 2013 Bhupinder Singh Failures Paper The distributed systems are unique in that it’s executions of the application of the protocols are to coordinate on multiple processes on the network, they have their own local memory and it communicates in entities with each of them using a massage passing mechanism. They also have their own personal users to them that they can use for personal uses. What are shared across the distributed systems are the data, processor, and the memory that can achieve those tasks when processing information. The distributed system has features to help achieve in in solving problems and issues with software and programs, when being useful with the distributed system is not very easy; its capabilities are the components, than just the stand alone systems that are sometimes not as reliable. Because of the complexities of interactions between running the distributed systems, it must have special characteristics like the fault tolerant; this can recover from component failures without performing incorrect actions. Recoverable is where failed components can restart and then rejoin the system after the cause failure has been repaired. The failure on a distributed system can result in anything from easily repairable errors to a catastrophic meltdown. Fault tolerance deals with making the system function in the presence of defaults. Faults can occur in any one of components. In this paper we will look at the different faults in...

...I love challenging myself. I know I will not always succeed, but that doesn’t stop me from trying my hardest anyway. As Michael Jordan would say, “I can accept failure. Everyone fails at something, but I can't accept not trying.” During my junior year at Maine East High School I took three AP courses, one of which was AP chemistry. My friends told me I was setting myself up for “failure” as AP chemistry is a difficult class, but I called it “a challenge to overcome.” I want to be a doctor, and I know that chemistry is a subject I must know well. I set my eyes above the horizon to earn an A in the class. However, I was a bit overconfident, as the year before I had easily earned an A in a standard chemistry class. When I received a D on my first test, I quickly realized I had to change my study habits in order to overcome this hurdle. I started...

...I remembering noticing failing at things that many other people my age may have managed to succeeded in. I failed at graduating high school. I failed at not attending college as soon as I received my GED. Many times I feel like I failed at being a good mom. With all those failures I realized that I never truly gave up. I decided to use those failures as a stepping stone. I was teen when I became pregnant with my first child. I remembering being in my third trimester waiting to be called back to final prenatal appointment before I due to give birth. I was called back to have my blood pressure checked immediately the nurse grew big and she stated " your blood pressure has sky rocked, and you'll have to give today." I was all alone. I was afraid for myself and my baby. I remembering being placed in a delivery room by myself, and giving birth to my son alone. With only the presence of the hospital staff. That was one of the only times I have experienced real fear....

...Heart failure occurs when cardiac output is insufficient to effectively perfuse the tissues, despite normal filling of the heart. Usually causes include hypertension, cardiomyopathy, and coronary heart disease. In heart failure, the increase in the resistance against which the heart pumps (afterload) further depresses cardiac output. A reduced renal blood flow induces renin secretion and increased plasma aldosterone and angiotensin concentrations. Water and sodium retention increases blood volume causing central venous pressure to increase. These changes overall first help to maintain cardiac output however in the long term they eventually cause morbidity and mortality (BOOK). Treatment of heart failure begins with angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor and as severity increases a diuretic is added which supports the excretion of sodium and water (book). In very severe heart failure, the addition of β-blocker further decreases mortality in patients on ACE inhibitors and diuretics. Valsartan/ Sacubitril is a combination drug approved for use in heart failure. It has a brand name of Entresto and is also previously known as LCZ696....

...Introduction Heart failure is a condition in which the heart cannot pump enough blood through the body. When this happens, parts of the body do not get the blood and oxygen needed for them to function properly. This can cause symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and confusion. There is no cure for heart failure. However, following your health care provider's instructions about a healthy lifestyle and being treated with medicines can help you stay active and live longer. The types of medicine you are prescribed will depend on your symptoms and what is causing the heart failure. In some cases, you may need to take more than one medicine. It is important to talk to your health care provider about all the medicines you are taking, how...

...to the World Health Organization, approximately 6 million people in the United States are surviving with heart conditions, which are usually fatal. Almost half of the people who experience heart failure die before five years elapse as it is one of the top killer diseases in high-income countries. Heart diseases are often the result of an individual's lifestyle, genes or even environment. What factors increase your risk of heart failure Obesity Obese people are more vulnerable to heart disease as compared to people with a healthy body weight. The heart of obese people pumps harder than the normal pumping rate, which makes the heart thicker. With a thicker heart, relaxation and contraction of the heart become strenuous. Obese people will then experience high blood pressure and this triggers the heart to pump harder. When the strain increases, the heart may fail to work. Diabetes Diabetic people are at a higher risk of contracting coronary heart diseases than non-diabetic people. Diabetes increases the levels of diabetes in the blood. The increased level of glucose may gradually lead to the clogging of arteries. The glucose damages the arterial walls which in turn develop fatty deposits that may block the arteries. Old Age The...

...Kidney failure: Choosing the best treatment Introduction The kidneys filter the waste from the blood and regulate other functions of the body. When your kidneys fail, you need a treatment that does the work your kidneys normally do. If you have kidney failure you should make some decisions about your treatment. You may choose not to receive any treatment. If you choose to receive treatment, your options include hemodialysis, which uses a machine to filter the blood out of your body; Peritoneal dialysis, which uses the lining of your abdomen to filter the blood into your body; And kidney transplantation, where a new kidney is placed in your body. Each treatment has advantages and disadvantages. Your treatment decision will have a major impact on your daily life, for example, your ability to retain your job if you work. You are the one who can decide what is the most important. Reading this...

...Bill Cosby once said, "In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure." In many ways, this statement is profound and true. To get anywhere in life, we all must first have the drive and the desire to even begin the journey to a better place. However, I believe the fear of failure and failure itself also plays an important role in changing and propelling our lives. This year has been the hardest ones I have ever experienced in my life. I was quick to learn that Senior year in particular not only gives me the highest degree of possible freedom, but also holds an entirely new set of expectations and responsibility over my head. Turning eighteen was like having a huge pile of stones unleashed onto my chest, then being expected to breathe with the unaccustomed weight. I have never been expected to work nearly as hard as I have this year alone, but this same year has been one of the most exhilarating I have ever experienced. This may be mainly due to the journey that I have had, even if I am still at the beginning of it, and it has been an uphill climb the entire way. I never realized that I wanted to become...
