NASA: How America Overcame the Unknown

The United States did not want to be the nation left behind in space exploration. Eisenhower and other important leaders replaced NACA, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, with NASA. With NACA being replaced with NASA National Aeronautics and Space Administration, otherwise known as NASA was built to further the space age, improve technology, and most importantly land on the moon. The names of the leaders were T. Keith Glennan, Hugh L. Dryden, Robert R. Gilruth, and Homer Newell (Dunbar, 2008). These four leaders have specific jobs to run the organization (Dunbar, 2008). Omitting the fact that without these leaders, NASA would not have acquired such great things. With the collaboration of these four men, NASA became the miraculous establishment it is today.
T. Keith Glennan was a key leader and the first administrator. Glennan worked for the government as an engineer (Dunbar, 2008). In order to become the first administrator for NASA, Glennan had to take a leave of absence as president of the Cleveland’s Case Institute of Technology (Dunbar, 2008). Glennan’s eyes were not set on NASA when he became an engineer, but soon realized he could do something greater. Glennan was the main leader for NASA on the beginning.
The deputy to Glennan was Hugh L. Dryden. Dryden was the technical director of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) (Dunbar, 2008). During Dryden’s time at NASA, he oversaw its technical efforts and day to day operations (Dunbar, 2008). …show more content…
The project apollo was Newell’s greatest accomplishment (Dunbar, n.d.). More than 75 experiments were conducted under Newell’s leadership (Dunbar, n.d.). Without Newell’s leadership on conducting experiments, we would not have knowledge about the moon. Homer Newell accomplished an abundance of things as the main scientist for NASA.
NASA was not the first space organization in the United States. The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics also known as NACA was the first space program (History.com Staff, 2018). NACA turned into NASA after World War II courtesy of Eisenhower (History.com Staff, 2018). Without WWII, Eisenhower would not have made NASA. Then the United States would not have made major improvements. Although NASA was not the first space organization, they were still the first one to the moon.
NASA does a variety of things for the United States. NASA sends probes and satellites out to space. There is an assortment of things NASA does like figure out ways to make air
