Abstract
The study of computer forensics has quickly emerged and technology used in theis type of forensics is being developed quite rapidly. As swiftly as the field and its importance are growing, many practitioners still remain unaware of computer forensics and its role in the technological world. A paper provides an overview of the relatively new field of computer forensics. The paper also illustrates why, in the wake of 9-11 and other terrorist acts, the research and development of computer forensics is of international importance. (A)

I chose to write my article on computer forensics mainly because I have been involved with computer forensics numerous times in my life. The most recent experience I’ve had with computer forensics was last year. I was informed by my wife that her best friend had received a visit from DHS after their daughters had mentioned that their dad had been touching them and asking them to do things that they were uncomfortable with. DHS determined that they needed to investigate the situation and began to gather the necessary information.

During the investigation my wife’s friend had noticed that her husband was starting to be very secretive and was locking up his computer anytime she walked into the room and had been using a 128 bit encrypted flash drive that he never let leave his person. He started being verbally abusive and physically abusive to both her and their 2 young daughters and she locked him out of the house.
I received a phone call from her mother and the county sheriff’s office asking me to check into what he had on his computer. ( I have been dealing with computers for over 18 years) I pulled his hard drive from his desktop and also was able to have access to his flash drive. I performed a deep format file recovery on his desktop hdd and spent a few hours trying to get into his flash drive. After the file recovery I spent 3 hours filtering through thousands and thousands of files until I came across a *hidden* folder.

Inside this folder were images that I never want to see ever again. I gained access to his flash drive by using his daughter’s middle name as a password and once again found images of child pornography. I was sick to my stomach that he even had the nerve to use his daughters name as a password to protect such filth. The sheriff told me to turn in the evidence I had and after they reviewed the content I found, they arrested him and he is now looking at life through iron bars.

I chose to write about this personal accomplishment mainly because it is a field that I’m highly interested in. Computer forensics is being developed and upgraded quite rapidly and a lot of public and private companies are using computer forensics on a daily basis creating another area of technological jobs. (A) The recent technology boom and significant use of computers in everyday life has been accompanied by an increasing rate of computer crimes. (2,3,11,12)

There were many private corporations that I didn’t even know existed such as DIBS who describes computer forensics as “the process of scientifically examining and analyzing data anywhere from computer storage to media so that the data can be used as evidence in court. (10) Another group called the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists (IACIS) leads the training and development of software for computer forensics. (10)
It used to be that computer information or digital files were not allowed in court as credible evidence because of The Fourth Amendment that was used to protect defendants against computer forensic evidence. Only until 1988 was this not allowed. (13)

There is also commercial software called Forensic Tool Kit (FTK) that will perform almost the same functions as the software used by law enforcement agencies. (10) I only wish I had access to this software when I was needed to get the information from those drives.
This article that I have written about has been very informative. It has led me to different agencies and software that I will be able to utilize in the future, and also give me more options when I’m asked to do anything related to computer forensics.

Reasons for Becoming a Teacher

...[pic] Reasons for Becoming a Teacher How has education evolved in my lifetime? I think the biggest change in education since I was in school has got to be technology. Back when I was in school we didn’t have things like high tech calculators and computers and Interactive Smart Boards. We did all our work by hand using pencils, pens and paper. When I was in elementary school the basic core skills of reading, writing, and math were taught by hand, we had to do all our reading in books, we didn’t have the Smart Boards like they do today where teachers can load a book on the screen and each student can read together or individually to the other students. Anything that had to do with writing was done by hand on paper unlike today where students can use computers to write their essays. Math was all done by hand on paper long division was a process that was broken down step by step, not using calculators or computers to find the answers. We did our multiplication tables by hand until we had them memorized. Things were simpler back to a point and to a point they are easier now, everything that we had to research for essays in high school was done at the library. We had to learn to use the Dewey Decimal System to find the books we needed. Today most all research is done on the computer, I find that this aspect of research is much easier for students including myself, being a student again. I don’t think that if things were like they...

Application Essay

...Writing Your Graduate School Application Essay Generally speaking, there are two types of application essays for graduate school: the statement of purpose (SOP) and the personal statement. (Refer to FAQs to find out how the two types are different.) Both types let you convince the admissions committee that you are a good fit for the program and can contribute to the department. Although different graduate schools may ask you to answer different prompts, most ask that you write no more than a two-page application essay. The application essay is difficult to write because you must pitch your candidacy to a few department faculty members who read through hundreds – or sometimes thousands – of other essays. In this handout, you will learn how to show these busy readers that you will contribute meaningfully to the university and their department. 1. Relate your past and present experiences to the future. In their application essays, many applicants make the mistake of underemphasizing the future. But it’s important that you show how your past experiences have informed your present work, and how your present work can be extended to the future or raise new research questions. Admissions committees assess many qualified applicants based on whether their research will reflect positively on the university and their department. Committees will think your past and present work is relevant only if it relates directly to your plans for the future. If you don’t know exactly where your current...

Statement of Purpose

...there is no doubt that neglecting to capture the gains achievable in overseas markets is equally suicidal, misguided attempts at competing globally (along with rapidly developing opportunities in the global marketplace) have placed a dramatic premium on individuals who take the time to properly train themselves in international business. For me, the Columbia MBA is a significant component of this training. I foresee my own career moving in the direction of European/American business, initially from an advisory perspective (i.e. investment banking or consulting) and ultimately from a leadership role within a manufacturing entity, preferably a start-up venture. This prophecy, in part, has evolved from my past experiences in western and eastern Europe which, in turn, have formed my opinions about certain opportunities that should emerge in the future: there should be, with a good degree of certainty, immense windfall gains and comparative advantages for US-trained/thinking business leaders and managers in the European markets in the coming years. This foresight along with my personal entrepreneurial bent and an affinity for finance will play a large role in the...

Student-Teacher Interaction on Facebook: What Students Find Appropriate

...Is it Credible or Not Credible? New Social Networking Sites (SNS) such as Facebook, and other popular sites, provide teachers with greater opportunities for reaching out to their students. As these technologies develop, there is not a widespread understanding of how they could be best be used in education. Authors Brehane Teclehaimanot and Torey Hickman present information in their article that helps to develop an understanding student teacher interaction using these new technologies, by investigating what students find appropriate levels of student-teacher interactions on Facebook. The results indicate that students find passive behaviors more appropriate than active behaviors with no difference depending on whether students or teachers perform the behaviors. Additionally, men find student-teacher interactions on Facebook more appropriate than women do, while there is no difference between undergraduate and graduate students, also age was not a big factor in finding the interactions more or less appropriate (Teclehaimanot, B. & Hickman, T). After taking in account all information and criteria to evaluate the source, I found this source credible for my purpose of writing. The authors of the article seem to be creditable. They both have Ph.D.’s, and have professional experience in technology, writing, and education. Dr. Torey Hickman served as a doctoral research assistant at University of Toledo. Investigated the teaching of technology integration within the teacher preparation...

Gs 1145 Strategies for the Technical Professional

...------------------------------------------------- Unit 2 Assignment 2: New Technology in My Field-Research and Essay The field I am going into or simply getting my degree in Associate’s of Applied Science in Network Systems Administration. One of the new technology is the mysterious cloud. The cloud storage is a storage network not device, because it is over the network. It is software in the network that allows a person to access the data anywhere by smartphone, laptop, desktop, Apple Iphone, or any other mobile device or tablet. That data is saved online rather than saving it on an expensive external device, or having to delete the old file to make new room for new data having to be saved. The physical storage for the cloud spans across multiple servers and many locations as well as several hosting companies. The cloud storage has four models, they are public, which is available to the public over the internet, private, which is for corporations and businesses only, community, for non-profit organizations and so forth, and lastly the hybrid version which is the combination of all three. In 2006 Amazon came out with their version of the online cloud storage called the AWS S3. Then later on Microsoft and Apple came out of their version as well. Other companies have created their version but, they have not succeeded in keeping their business afloat, causing them to go bankrupt. It is hard to stay with a small company that offers cloud storage because when they go bankrupt...

Logistics or Not

...Logistics or Academic Essay Logistics or Not 05/27/2015 Arue Johnson ENG/220 Nora Barber For logistics or not for logistics I should stay in the logistic career field instead of venturing on new career paths. I will review in comparison and contrast the reasons for staying in the logistical field opposed to leaving this career. I like working in the logistical field because the economy needs logistics. The employment opportunities in the logistic field are widespread throughout the country and world. I have eleven years of experience in logistics; so I have knowledge advantage. When I earn my Bachelors degree, it will support and strengthen my logistical experience. For logistics I should continue to pursue a logistic career because the economy relies on logistics. The economy functions on supply and demand. Companies distribute and receive supplies to supply the economy of what it demands. It does not matter what type of business it is: military, agriculture, industrial, manufacturing, human resources, or financial. The logistical behavior never changes. Every supply and demand business model is requisite of logistics. Logistics is the reason for economic growth and technological advances. If it weren’t for the increasing demand for logistics to supply the economy quickly, then it wouldn’t have stimulated the advancement of technology to do so. Michael Porter, a business strategist, inferred...
