1. Introduction
With the development of media and technology, the mass media has an increasingly profound impact on the lives of people in modern society. In the fields of economy, politics and society, the mass media is playing a more and more important role.
Today's media perspective has been stretched into every facet of social life. At the same time, the mass media have also accelerated the process of globalization, promoting economic and social development.

In different areas, the mass media has different responsibilities and roles. Furthermore, the mass media influence people's cognition of the society. TV is the most important platform for news (Plunkett, 2013). More than half of the respondents in Ofcom’s report think that the BBC was used as a primary source of information (Ofcom,
2013).

Given the above, this project is aimed to look out the working class people’s attitude to the news on TV. To illustrate this, the hypothesis of this report is that Working class people are more likely to believe that the news on TV is unbiased.

2. Methodology
At the beginning of creating the questionnaire, some research was conducted on the
Internet. Working class people are the social group who are employed for wages, especially in manual or industrial work (Waite and Hawker, 2009, pp. 1065). Because

1

of the nature of the work, working class people may have more leisure time after work. So the questionnaire consists of 10 questions that were based around the working class people’s attitude to television news. The questionnaire was tested by other classmates and some problems were discovered, such as grammatical errors and too general question forms. When the questionnaire was modified, it was conducted on 15th July in the city center of Cardiff. 10 working class people and 10 non working class people were selected at random.
After collecting the data, pie charts or bar charts were used to analysis the data and illustrated the results of each question.

4. Discussion
4.1: The kinds of news on TV working class people generally focus on
According to the figure 1 describes the results of the survey, the working class people more attention to political news, which accounts for a high proportion (50%). The proportion of watching sports news and social news is generally consistent (40%).
This result may be explained by the fact that: l Politics is a part of social life. Economic situation determines the political
6

environment; politics environment also can react to economic situation. Political news can make people to understand the world and reality. For example, most people are concerned about the election. After the results of the election, the government will issue some relevant economic policies and regulations. These will cause the change of the social form, and then affect the life of people.

4.2: Level of trust about news on TV
The results from figure 2 show that 60% of the working class people chose a neutral attitude. They do not choose to believe television news, but they also do not deny the news on TV. Some possible reasons for this could be that: l For the working class people, watching TV news is a way to spend their leisure time. Maybe they will watch the TV news while they are eating, but this does not mean they are convinced of the TV news.

4.3: The kinds of news on TV working class people more willing to trust
Figure 3 illustrates that in a large number of news categories, working class people are more willing to trust sports news. A possible explanation for this might be: l Sports news has a big characteristic is hat the content of the news can be confirmed. For example, Reports the results of a game. This result can be confirmed by the presence of all the audience. And a lot of games are broadcast live, which makes sports news more credible.

7

4.4: The perspective of working class people for the news on TV is unbiased
On the question of language, Figure 4 found that the majority (70%) of working class people choose a neutral attitude towards the television news that is unbiased. And 30% of working class people feel the news on TV is biased. This could be attributed to the fact that: l For working class people who hold a neutral attitude, probably because they cannot be 100 percent sure that the news on TV is unbiased. So they chose a neutral attitude.

l

Some working class people do not trust in the news on TV, so they choose a neutral attitude towards the biased or unbiased of the television news.

4.5: The perspective of working class people for the television news on Election
Time and the Syria War
Figure 5 and figure 6 reflect the views of the working class people on television news during the two special periods - Election Time and the Syria War. 40% of the working class people still hold a neutral attitude for the news on TV. And a large proportion
(50%) of the working class people think that the news on TV is biased in the two periods. This could be explained as: l At the time of the election, the major broadcasters and newspapers have to support the political parties. At that time, broadcaster will help this party to do more publicity, also help the parties to establish a better public image. This makes the television news are no longer independent.

8

l

And in the report news of the Syria war, The British Broadcasting Corporation took pictures of the Iraq War for the Syria war (MacMillan, 2014). BBC has been a vague report for the situation of the Syria War. People cannot understand the real situation of Syria war through these reports. These are likely to make people lose confidence in the BBC.

4.6: People’s attitude to television news hides some negative news
For working class people and non working class people (Figure 7), they all think that news on TV to hide some negative news is unacceptable. At the same time, there are some people who choose a neutral attitude. It is possible that: l For the masses, the television news report should be a real message platform.
The public needs to see the real situation. Instead of know the news through the modification and hide some negative sides.

5. Conclusion and Recommendation
Based on the result of questionnaire, it is hard to say that working class people are more likely to believe that the news on TV is unbiased. It is a big problem for the television news to maintain the news report of true, objective and independence.
People want to see the truth of the news report, which requires the television platform to change their own situation. First of all, the TV platform can develop specific operational specifications. The television platform can use effective management means and reasonable operating system to restrain themselves. Secondly, the

9

government should strengthen the administration and supervision of the TV platform.
However, the questionnaire report did have following limitations: l The total number of sample is too small, and the target people are limited in the city center of Cardiff.

l

The options in the questionnaire were not clear and not suitable.

l

Due to the lack of appropriate communication, people did not want to answer questions. l

The report mainly focuses on working class people that are only a small proportion of the television audience.

New Girl Tv Show

...Tiffany O’Dillon Professor Rhym English 1101.13 19 February 2014 New Girl New Girl is based on a school teacher, Jessica Day (played by Zooey DesChanel), who after going through a rough breakup with her cheating ex-boyfriend Spencer, moves in with 3 single men whom she has never met before. One independent woman living with 3 unfamiliar men who isn’t thought less of for being a female, is a big step for American culture, considering back in our past, she would not have even been able to get an education to pursue her teaching career. Through 3 ongoing seasons, her best friend CeCe and her roomies, Nick, Schmidt and Winston, struggle to help her overcome it and teach her some things about life and along the way builds a family with them. Each episode Jess is experiencing her new single life with some tough reality tossed her way and pulls through with the help of her new companions. Nick, being the grumpier, emotional roommate, is a “cooler” for Jessica, as she is to him. He is a law school dropout that’s now a local bartender. Nick and Jess have an obvious connection that will evidently lead them together. Winston is a former (but still overly competitive) basketball player who doesn’t know what he should do with his life, but whatever it is he’s confidant to be the best. The last but maybe the best of Jess’ roommates, Schmidt, is egotistical, well groomed and well dressed, a high standard perfectionist, and germaphobe. Back in his college days he was fat, until he...

Discuss a Brand New Tv Show from This Past Television Season, and Why It Was Successful or Not.

...“The Blacklist” In season full of mediocre (or worse) new shows, NBC's The Blacklist has been a nice surprise. When I saw the pilot, I thought it had no business being as rock-solid as it was, but I wrote off the show's long-term prospects because I didn't think James Spader was enough to carry the show on a weekly basis, and the ongoing story about Red and Elizabeth seemed pretty obvious. However, after catching up on the series this past weekend and watching Monday's "General Ludd," I realized that I was only partially correct. Spader is mostly up to the challenge as The Blacklist's centerpiece, and the ongoing story is pretty obvious, but the show has done quite a bit of legwork to keep it compelling in the first eight weeks. Although it's likely that the plum post-Voice time period gives The Blacklist most of its ratings juice, I'm no longer shocked that it's the season's biggest hit. Here's why. 1. A good balance of procedural stories and ongoing mysteries I've had a few discussions with friends lately about what it means to be a broadcast drama in 2013. One of the takeaways has been that, more often than not, when people think of a broadcast drama, they tend to focus on shows that are almost exclusively procedural, relegating the obviously "great" examples like The Good Wife or Scandal to a small group of outliers that are more often compared to "great" cable shows. And while I love the kind of intense serialized stories those series can tell, shows like The Blacklist prove...

...Use Voice, Gestures to Control TV a new wave of TVs this year will provide the option of using voice controls or hand gestures to navigate channels, change volumes or find the right content from broadcasts or the Internet. Samsung recently shipped new interactive TVs that not only recognize hand gestures, but also voice commands with the assistance of a "Smart Touch Remote" control. Lenovo hopes to go beyond voice and gesture recognition with a smart TV that is capable of quality gaming. Panasonic has already shipped some of its latest Viera TVs in the U.K. with Nuance Communications' Dragon TV platform, which allows users to speak out channel choices or Twitter updates. Samsung Smart TV Samsung a few weeks ago started shipping new TVs that users can control simply by speaking or moving their hands. The interactive TVs include the Smart Touch Control remote, which has a microphone to take in voice commands that are then transmitted wirelessly to a TV set. The TV responds to simple commands like "volume up" or "channel up." Saying "Web browser" opens up the browsing software, and users can also speak directly into the Google search box instead of typing. The remote and TV are linked via a long-range Bluetooth connection, and voice commands are helpful if a user is not in front of the TV. Beyond voice recognition, the TV also has gesture recognition features in which moving a hand in the air allows users to browse around and select features, much like the Nintendo Wii or Microsoft...

...TV Sales Fade Away Boxy TVs are a thing of the past and the new slim and sleek flat panel displays are the thing of the future, or are they? In the article “A Bonanza in TV Sales Fades Away” by Sam Grobart of the New York Times, Grobart talks about how the sales of televisions are slowing down. He backs up his statements by saying that TV makers are trying to persuade consumers to buy new sets by promoting new technologies such as 3-D and internet connections – features that have not generated much excitement so far. Per the article unit sales of LCD (liquid crystal display) and plasma TVs were up in the year 2010 by 2.9 percent from the previous year. This gain was considered to be tiny compared to the gain of more than 20 percent in each of the prior three years. Due to government-mandated switchover to digital broadcasting and the availability of HD (high definition) flat-panel television were on the rise. Now nearly two-thirds of households in the U.S have a flat-screen TV. It was thought that 3-D capabilities would gear consumers to buy more TVs but with having to buy other items such as 3-D Blu Ray players, 3-D media, and additional glasses in order to use the 3-D option, the sales decreased. The pricing concept was a big issue for TV makers. Per the article from 2007-2010 the average price of an LCD TV dropped 36.3 percent, according to DisplaySerch. Plasma TVs dropped as well by 51.6 percent in the same period. Since then TV makers have gotten a handle on what...

Tv Affecting People

...Is TV Distancing People or Connecting People? (Rough Draft) Fred Allen, a comedian from the 30’s and 40’s, once said “Television is the triumph of machine over people.” In others words, Allen believes that television was made to control people; their decisions and to manipulate their opinions. Is television bad as they say? It has been a great debate trough the years. Dana Stevens; a movie critic and journalist for the “New York Times” suggests that watching TV only makes people want to watch more TV. She argues that commercials and programs on TV, including those focused on children, encourage people to watch more TV and to buy things. Thousands of programs being streamed every day in many countries are full of education and informative content. It demonstrates that TV is not bad; it has many advantages over other mass media. TV is a great tool of entertainment for people all around the world, it is a great tool of information that offers a great diversity of programs that help people to open their minds. According to some people, TV encourages people to be lazy and less productive because it does not involve any activity; the only thing they do is just sitting down and enjoy what is on TV. Future of Tv Market

...THE FUTURE OF TV 1. The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) - which takes place in Las Vegas every January - was this year dominated by one particular technology: the humble television. High-definition LCD TVs are quickly becoming yesterday's news, soon to be as out-of-date as the boxy TV that dominated our lounges a decade ago. Incoming is a scrum of new innovations. Manufacturers such as Samsung, LG, Sony, Toshiba, Sharp, Haier and Panasonic showed off Ultra Definition TVs, 4K Super HD resolution TVs, OLEDs, Super OLEDs, Crystal LEDs, auto-stereoscopic 3D TVs, gesture-controlled smart TVs and more at this month's CES. But what does all that jargon actually mean? And what about those rumors of future TV tech from Apple, as well as futuristic innovations such as roll able screens? Read on for a straight-talking guide to all you need to know about the future of TV tech. 2. 4K Super (or Ultra) High Definition TVs. These days, the vast majority of us enjoy movies, shows and games in the far-superior high-definition TV standards of 720p (a resolution of 1280 x 720 on-screen pixels) or 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels, often called 'Full HD'). The next major jump in picture quality is going to be 4K TV resolution. These screens (referred to variously as Ultra HD, Super HD or 4K Quad HD, depending on the manufacturer) will have a resolution of around 3840 x 2160 pixels. That's roughly four times more than current 1080p HD TVs. To put it another way, it's a TV image that is made up of eight...

Samsung Marketing Strategy

...“Inspire the world, Create the future.” 1.0 Executive Summery Samsung Electronics has proven to the business world that they are one of the most prestigious technology companies in the industry. With more technology advancements than our market can handle at this point and time, Samsung has paved the way for the future in electronics. One of the most popular new “toys” in the market today, is the unbelievable 3D TV. The first 3D TV was launched in March of 2010, and has already had a major impact on the market. With the release earlier this year, Samsung dominated the market, controlling nearly 90% of the total share. Samsung’s product, the 9000 series TV, is incomparable to competition with its ultra-thin screen, measuring only 0.3 inches in width. The 9000 series also comes with a full color spectrum that makes for an incredible viewing experience. Although Samsung is dominating the 3D market, we still have very detailed strategies and tactics that we believe will give us an increased competitive advantage over our competition. The company’s main emphasis the past couple years has been on integration, union, and encouraging innovation. Samsung is always preparing for the next big item to hit the market, which is why their technology is so far ahead of all leading competitors. In the future, we plan to enter the 3D video gaming market with a partnership with Microsoft. This will give us access to all of Microsoft’s gaming technology, in which we will combine with our quality...
