Practice Teaching English at High School
Teaching a foreign language may be one of the most challenging jobs. Many teachers receive their B.Ed. from colleges, where they get the chance to practice their teaching while studying. In particular, EFL teachers get exposed to a variety of teaching techniques which make their teaching exciting and effective. At each stage, teachers need to adopt their teaching to meet the students' needs. However, it's the most challenging when they practice teaching EFL at high school. It is an enriching experience since student teachers are exposed to different settings, acquainted with new teaching styles, and deal with teenagers.
Experiencing a variety of classroom settings is one of the advantages in practicing teaching English at a high school. For example, classes in a high school are divided according to students' levels: advanced, intermediate, and weak ones, in addition to their specializations. Whereby in each level, student teachers are required to choose the suitable material that meets the students' needs, the thing that differs from other stages, in which various levels of pupils learn in one class at the same time. Besides, weak classes are also divided into classes with special learning needs, in which teachers should be more careful about students' backgrounds. These weak classes are also divided into small groups, which help teachers to focus on students' weaknesses in order to develop their English. However, strong and intermediate classes are considered very big classes due to the fact that they have about forty to forty-seven students, and sometimes it's not easy to control them. Obviously, the required material for each class differs to match the different levels of classes. The course books and teaching strategies which suit their levels are different as well.
