Seeking better conditions was considered to be the most significant motive for immigration for some groups of people. Through the year, I could have a deeper look at the experiences they had there. Furthermore, the stories we have learned were various and they have dealt with different groups in the world such as Canadians, Indians, Arabs and Chinese who were fully persuaded that English speaking countries would offer for them the best opportunities. However, I think they were not conscious enough to know that there they will confront a serious conflict; they somehow will suffer and accept the idea that not all countries open their arms for migrants. According to the stories we discussed in class, I saw that while parents were much attached to their heritages and origins, children were prone to disregard their traditions and to behave the way the new community would accept them. For more illustration I will mention a story that uncovered how deep the generation gap and the difference in beliefs and thoughts between parents and children are. "The Joy Luck Club" is a sufficient example that displayed how the Chinese mother's character and thoughts never meet her daughter's. They argued about many issues in life such as, the way the daughter should cut her hair, giving a tip of the waiter in the restaurant and choosing her partner in life. All groups of people who have had the chance to be in English speaking countries confronted a serious conflict. They came from a certain place that has its unique distinguished habits and tradition, and suddenly they were exposed to a new place that somehow forced them to give up on their traditions in order to coexist. They were lost between two sides; the heritage and the nostalgia for their origins as one side and the other side is their enthusiasm and desire to get developed by the help of the available chances in English Speaking Countries.
