...As a computer science student, I understand the importance of being able to think logically. Also, I hope to achieve proper communication skills and develop an independent sense of judgment and people skills. Working as a resident assistant will help me improve my problem solving skills as it involves constantly taking queries from other students, analyzing the best possible solution and communicating this to respective officials. Something valuable that I hope to achieve through being Resident Assistant is the opportunity to meet with new students from different backgrounds and hearing their stories. With the knowledge and lessons I learn from this, I hope to build new relationships with new and amazing students, and also hope to improve the...

...I believe that being a Resident Assistant is far more than just a job that requires monitoring a floor or even unlocking doors, those things are only the tip of the iceberg. To be a Resident Assistant means to be a role model, an advisor, a therapist, a problem solver, and a great deal of other responsibilities are expected of such a person. Even though this is my first semester at Governors State University and I am considered a new student here, I am not new to college. My first experience with learning what a Resident Assistant was, was when I attended SIU in Edwardsville, during my freshman year of college. My RA that year was very personable and down to earth. She made certain hours throughout the day available in her room, if a student needed to ask questions, share comments, or even make suggestions. She also hosted different miniature gatherings on the floor, so we could get to know our fellow peers. Those encounters with my RA at the time, inspired me to want to be in a position where I could contribute to or even create that same environment for other students. When I saw the opportunity posted to become a Resident Assistant at GSU, I was eager to apply. I feel that my personal experiences and challenges I have faced during my years of college and the way I have recovered from those experiences, shows adversity, goal-orientation, and determination. I am willing to shed light on those experiences and help other incoming students who may struggle with getting acclimated...

...Failure can often find itself as a difficult thing for many to accept as some view failure as a sign of weakness. I have always been a firm believer that what matters most is not if you get knocked down, but whether you get back up. From my time as a resident assistant, I have had my successes, but I have also experienced failure. One failure that I believe was distinct for my growth as a resident assistant dealt with an unbefitting call that I made to the Head of Hall on call while on duty. In the beginning of my resident assistant career while on duty one night, I found a stolen dish from the Schott Dining Hall, covered in a dried substance, in a stairwell. Unsure of the exact protocol for a situation such as this aforementioned one, I called...

...I am writing to express my interest in applying for the Resident Assistant position at St. John’s University Paris Campus. Through my experience as a first-year Resident Assistant (RA) at St. John’s University Staten Island Campus, I have grown as a student, as a leader, and as a paraprofessional advisor for over 20 of my individual residents. It has been my pleasure being part of the change in the Staten Island Office of Residence Life that embodies respect and trust towards all of the resident students. I especially appreciate the integration of the St. John’s University mission and values into every day residential life. I would be honored to create this sense of community among residents on the Paris Campus. The position as an RA has...

...Please describe any personal characteristics, skills, or experiences you possess that make you well qualified to be a Resident Assistant. As an individual, I believe I have multiple experiences that would make me an asset as a Resident Assistant. During the summer I planned and oversaw programs for a group of high school students who are taking summer classes at a community college. This role has given me key skills of being patient, responsive, and personable with students. This year, I am also an Honors Practicum Leader. This experience has allowed me to run a classroom of first-year students. I mentor and help them with their academics and assist them in their transition into college. These roles have helped me develop my leadership skills, as well as make me a more responsible and dependent person that is able to work well alongside others. Not only that but working with students this year has made me passionate about connecting with students individually and making a difference in their lives. What is your understanding of a life-work balance? How do you apply this understanding to your daily practices at Drake? Life-work...

...Daria Vinchesi is a resident advisor in Hannon Hall. She is also a very close friend and a very driven person. She is such a talented person that she reflects often on which direction she wants her life to go in. At her core, Daria loves to help people, and everyone around her knows it. Daria is the type of person that leaves the door open for anybody to stop by and say hi. There is any way to summarize Daria at all, it would be the word caring. I’ve never seen her give up on anything, no matter how difficult the situation might be. Over the past month she has had to deal with being a resident advisor and school. Moreover, a very difficult, and very personal situation. Daria is very instinctive and a very close listener, gives her an edge when it comes to having difficult, and sensitive conversations. This is an ability that sets her apart from her peers. Her empathy is truly inspiring to see, and that she takes everything to heart, even more so. Because of her genuine nature, Daria has many friends and very close relationships with the lucky few that get to spend time with her. As I have said above, Daria is a very driven person. This is most clear to see when talking about academics, or her plans for the future. When it comes to school, she puts in 110%, even when it comes to the classes that...

...For me, the best advantage about being a Resident Assistant at APSU would be being able to live so close to campus and become familiar with the what APSU has to offer. This will benefit me as an RA because I will be familiar with the layout of campus and different events. As well as be able to assist any new or previous residents in punctual manner if they need help. Some adjustments I would make if I was chosen to be an Resident Assistant would be how complaints from residents are addressed and how efficiently they are dealt with. While staying on campus I had numerous issues with my suit mate having men over all the time and this would make me and my room mate uncomfortable. we even went to the Resident Assistant on duty to let them no...

...Residence Assistants hold a great role within both the residence halls and on the greater Suffolk University campus. Not only do they represent the Residence Life Department, but they represent Suffolk as a University, as well as representing for the residents they oversee. Whether they are just walking to class or are conducting floor meetings, Resident Assistants play an essential role on the greater Suffolk University campus. Within the residence halls, Resident Assistants are seen to be the overseers of the dorms. They are one of the first people to greet residents on move in day, one of the first role models we as students recognize in the school, and also one of the first people who are put in place to assist us while living on campus. While holding many roles on campus, there are a few that I believe stand out within the residence halls. First and foremost, the Resident Assistant is the initial welcome into college. Through the first floor meeting and roommate assignments, they begin their duty. From move in day on, they are the authority that is placed in their position to support and assist all residents while living on campus. Where students no longer have the comfort of living in their homes or the security of their parents being two doors away from them, a Resident Assistant almost instantly...

...Resident Assistant Emily Gicewicz was on her second round of the evening on the 7th floor, when loud screaming and talking was heard from the hall way coming from Suite 7D. Resident Assistant Emily entered the room at 12:10am and found the source of the noise coming from room 7D3. Upon entering suite 7D3, a large half-empty bottle of liquor was seen on the dresser and Resident Larissa Clark was seen with a blue can of alcohol in hand on the bed closest to the door next to Resident Laura Graf. ...I have desired to earn an MBA for the past two years since obtaining my undergraduate degree and I am excited to now be in the process of making that goal become a reality. I have come a long way from the shy college student who in the beginning could barely handle the idea of being a resident assistant because it would require a considerable amount of interaction with students. I was able to conquer that original fear and later went on to become a Community Assistant and then a Manager for a student community. My path has not been the easiest, but nonetheless through facing some challenges I have accomplished many goals. My experiences have shaped me into a valued and respected leader in my professional and personal life. I am confident during...

...I am interested in becoming a Resident Assistant because one of the first memories I have of moving into College Hall North, is how friendly all the RA`s were and how nice they were to me and how welcomed they made me feel. I can without doubt say that she not only reassured me and made me feel a lot calmer about being so far away from home but she reassured my parents and made them feel a lot better. That was the day I knew I wanted to be a Resident Assistance, I wanted to be able to relieve as much nervousness and stress about coming to college as possible and give my residents someone they can come to about anything at any time of day, without thinking they will be judged, the same way my Resident Assistance did for me. I like to be an encourager to people and help them to be the best they can be, as a Resident’s Assistant I feel like a big part of my job would be doing just that. Although I know that the job will get stressful at times I am very dedicated to people and I truly enjoy being able to positively...

...worked at my job for going on four years. The company has continuously hired and fired people since I have been there, as far as the management go, I call it “The District Circle of Life”. The staff in which I work and interact with the most with is the Community Assistants (CA). A Community Assistant job combines being a Leasing Agent and a Resident Assistant into one job. The staff consist of twelve student workers that either attend Texas A&M University or Blinn College. We give tours of our property to prospective residents, handle legal documents, organize the office, and put on events for the residents that reside at our property. During this past summer, my job had its biggest turnover within our staff that I have seen in my couple of years of employment. We lost three out of five managers and lost seven CAs. It was not the smoothest transition between the old and new personnel, but we made it through it. Everyone has been able to mesh and get along pretty well for the past few months, except one manager, Jerry! Jerry is our twenty year old Resident Director for the property. His main responsibilities are the Resident Life Program at The District and the CAs. The resident Life Program is mainly ensuring all residents are happy, scheduling socializing events and handling roommate conflict. He is technically considered the boss of the CAs. He is younger than majority of the staff so you can kind of assume what kind of problems he runs into. The CAs refers to Jerry our little...
