...This case study is about Dr. Barr who is a veterinarian and opens her own clinic. She like most first time owners is having problems managing, organizing, controlling inventory, and staffing employees. She just needs to take some time and find out the main goal that she set out to accomplish in the first place. The operation management problem that Dr. Barr is currently facing is planning, organizing, and controlling. Planning consist of knowing when to stay open late and when to close the clinic early. Organizing, the current system that she has in place is not adapting to current setting of the clinic for example the overflow on Friday evenings. The Schedule isn’t working for Dr. Barr because demand for her service offered is greater on Fridays than Wednesday. She should switch the days the clinic is open late due to the demand for her services on Friday. Inventory problems always occur when more than one person is doing inventory because mix numbers come out, more than what is needed is ordered and therefore ending up with an excess of that product. The office assistant should be in charge of ordering inventory and it should be taken at least once a week which then, eliminates running out of things and having too much of other stuff and wasting products. Dr. Barr should have switched the schedule around when she noticed the demand for her services were greater on Friday than Wednesdays. Had one person in charge of inventory and schedule both veterinarians on...

...Doctor Shortage Impacts Rural Areas Jean Larsen Senior Project Kristi Hund March 1, 2011 Abstract The United States is experiencing a substantial shortage of physicians, which is creating a severe supply and demand problem in America. Citizens living in rural areas should receive the same quality of care as those living in urban settings. Substantial differences exist in quality and access to health care for persons living in rural America. The shortage of physicians in rural America calls for immediate attention and change, as the inadequate supply of physicians is affecting the quality of patient care. The life expectancy of persons living in rural America is actually declining due to treatable conditions such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. These illnesses could be managed with proper medical treatment. This paper addresses these issues and recommends two solutions. Healthcare is in crisis in many countries, not least of which is the United States. We hear on the news how health care providers are unable to provide medical care to an increasing number of chronically ill and the aging population. There are a number of systemic failures, none is more difficult to correct than the basic lack of human resources. There are simply not enough physicians to service the needs of the population. The problem is intensified in rural areas, where specialized physicians may not be found within several hundred miles. The healthcare...

...This style of leadership has been suggested to address many of the universal challenge of LTC. The servant leader focuses on taking opportunities to help their followers grow and develop. This leader argues that by serving the needs of their followers and providing extensive support, the care team is then better equipped and motivated to serve the needs of residents, rather than focusing on satisfying managerial needs to avoid negative consequences. Both styles result in higher employee satisfaction, and lower turnover. The difference between the two is the focus of the leader. The transformational leader's focus is directed toward the organization, and their behavior builds follower commitment toward organizational objectives, while the servant leader's focus is on the followers, and the achievement of organizational objectives is an outcome of their satisfaction. Although they are different, adopting transformational leadership with servant leadership creates the foundation for ultimately reducing turnover...

... As our textbook states on page 346, the National Labor Relations Act also known as Wagner Act requires employers to bargain in good faith over mandatory bargaining issues like working conditions, hours, wages, term and conditions of employment. Labor laws are authorized by the government to allow employees to not only join, but also to organize and/or create if they decide so. West University’s study shows that the Graduate Employee Organization (GEO) is affiliated with the United Auto Workers (UAW) union, and used it as the collective bargaining representative. Although the employees are in its majority unionized, the non-union employees are not required to join in because Arizona is one of the right-to-work states.my believe is that a union is as strong as the rights it fights for and the strength it utilizes to achieve its goals. Employers can decide to ignore the petitions of the unionists. 2. I do believe that teaching assistants should be considered employees, following the definition which is a person who assists teachers with instructions and responsibilities. In the case...
