...College offers students many fields of study, after they become college student, they can choose what they want to learn. But colleges requires students to select classes not inside of their major fields but also outside. As a college student, I want to be a nurse in future. I remember when I went for my advising, the adviser told me I had to do my pre requisite pass my TEASE test before I can enter the nursing program. I asked her the reason why I had to take courses that do not pertain to the course am majoring in. I was confused about what she was trying to tell me. The adviser then explained the reason why I had to do all this course. Some of the reason she said was for student to be able to express them self-better, for them to be creative and lastly to be a divergent and critical thinker. I later went to a seminar that explained the reason why student should take course that is not my major. I strongly agree that college should require every students to take classes that is not that is not the major and also should be graded pass/fail. This is the reason why; first of all, studying other courses gives students chances to make friends with other students in different major fields. In my field my faculty requires every students to take at least two years of pre requisites. I choose to study nursing, am making a lot of good friends while during my pre requisites I meet students from all fields which gives my some ideas on other fields. The second to support my claim is...

...Human Resource Development Fairness in the workplace is tied in with equitable and unbiased treatment which is very important to maintain a healthy work environment. Many discrimination suits and grievances arise from employee’s perception of unfair treatment. The study of procedural and interactional justice has come to forefront in academia because of their correlation with favorable work attitudes and higher job performance. The article Using Social Exchange Theory to Distinguish Procedural from Interactional Justice differentiates the importance and role of procedural and interactional justice in the workplace. The authors’ state procedural justice is normally associated with the relationship between the employee and the organization while interactional justice is the relationship between the employee and immediate supervisor. The predictions of the authors were field tested on 107 employees and supervisors. The purpose of the study is to determine if procedural justice will be associated with attitudes toward organizational decision makers and if interactional justice will be associated with an employee’s immediate supervisor. The researchers believe the outcome of the study will confirm their hypothesis on what each justice is associated with. First, we need to understand the foundation of social exchange theory. According to Miles (2012) “the theory assumes that self-interested parties transact or exchange with self-interested others in order to accomplish outcomes...

...------------------------------------------------- Research: Affirmative Action. Do you feel that affirmative action has a place in today's society? Do you support or oppose its role in today's politics and our lives? Why? Affirmative action is a term most Americans are familiar with, but a term that is not always well understood. To clarify, as defined in Politics in America by Thomas Dye, affirmative action is any government or private program designed to help offset the effects of “past unequal treatment of minorities and/or women by giving members of these groups preferential treatment in admissions, hiring, promotions, or other aspects of life” (Dye, 2009, p. 551). Over time, affirmative action has resulted in an array of policies or programs specifically designed with the intention to enhance employment and business opportunities, or educational programs for groups, such as ethnic or racial minorities, as well as women, who all, as a group, have suffered discrimination. However, the approach in which these policies or programs are employed, the forms of action they entail, and the far-reaching repercussions they convey for our society may deviate from one specific program to another. Since its founding, the belief in human equality has guided the American republic. Of the truths held to be self-evident in the Declaration of Independence, the very first and foremost is that “all men are created equal.” This certainty is deep-seated as we recognize intuitively the equality...

...Newkirk 1 Eric F. Newkirk Dr. Garber Evangelism 101/ C01 31 March, 2016, Spring 2016 “Methods of Evangelism” The importance of understanding the methods of evangelism, which are, the intellectual, relational, and confrontational, will determine the “effectiveness” and or the “ineffectiveness” in how the Christian believer will reach the lost, for the kingdom of God. During, a Thanksgiving gathering at the main family house for the holidays, the oldest of daughter of two sisters were preparing to place a ham in a roasting pan, when her sister suddenly “yelled,” you have to cut the ends off of the ham before placing it in the oven”! After a few moments of debating, the mother was called into the kitchen to settle the debate. “Mom, shouldn’t you cut off the ends of the ham, before it is placed into the roasting pan, asked the younger sister?” The mother thought for a moment and then replied,” I cut the ends because I did not have a big enough pan to place the whole ham into”! What an awesome lesson to learn from, especially when it comes to a particular method to evangelize, “the lesson should be” “what really works most effective for one person, may not work the same for someone else”. The LORD say to Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations” (Jer.1:5 NKJV). How comforting it is to know, that Christians can go the...

...As awareness for suicide among college aged students rose, this research paper aimed to find the truth behind the matter. Collecting from many sources, he found varying views. Some proved that suicide is more likely when comparing the population as a whole to a single campus. Other times, the researchers believe that campuses skew their numbers by not reporting suicides of students off campus. However, one point seems to be more supported than the rest and this is that young adults who drop out of college are much more likely to commit suicide than those in college. Even though there is no clear evidence whether more suicides are being attempted or completed at colleges, it is know that the number of students enrolling in college with some form of psychiatric problems like depression and anxiety is on the rise, which can lead to higher suicide rates. ...pression Affects College Students How Depression Affects College Students Nikki M. Broadnax Elementary Education Major Abstract The age group of depressed college students is 18 – 32 many students find the adjustment from high school to college difficult. Even the student that seems most at ease with their new lifestyle will often confess to moments of missing their familiar high school friends, family and other comforts of home. A study by UCLA reports that more than 25-30 percent of college freshmen say they feel overwhelmed most of the time in the beginning stages of college. Some students, however, find themselves feeling much more than simply overwhelmed. 2006 college seniors surveyed, the numbers has increased 50% since the 1970s. Unthinking depression has its peak in females between the ages of 18-40, and for males between 21-40, emphasize that depression occurs at all ages. The difference between adult and childhood pictures of depression have been attributed to an inability of the child to verbalized his or her affective state incomplete superego development, and absence of consistent self-representation. How Depression Affects In College Students More than 18 million adults, almost a tenth of the United States population above the age of 17-23, have been found to demonstrate symptoms of a depressive disorder each year (Rosack, July 8, 2010) Depression is defined as a state of intense sadness or despair that has progressed to a level that...

...the past couple of years. Many college students spend late nights binging on their favorite television shows. There has not been much research done, on the effects that Netflix has on students, specifically those in college. Although, there have been several studies done on the effects media has on secondary students, as well as college students. Our study will try to determine whether watching Netflix while doing schoolwork will effect the efficiency, and accuracy of the task given to them. In order to get a better understanding of what we might expect from our study, we chose to analyze five studies that discuss media and technology in regards to secondary and college students. Watching Netflix, and working on homework is an example of multitasking. Multitasking is simply splitting attention, between two or more items. How can multitasking affect the everyday student? We believe that all media and technology can affect a student while he or she is trying to complete homework outside of the classroom. The studies below discuss data based on students multitasking with media and technology....

...the most common of the diagnosed mental disorders, is troubling the college students in an increasing rate. Psychologists define depression as mood disorder in which feelings of sadness, loss, anger, or frustration interfere with everyday life for an extended period of time. Although it may sound simple, this ailment should not be underestimated; it must be understood well to avoid grave consequences. Most of the college students fail to notice that they are afflicted by depression, which in turn greatly affect their academic performances. It is imperative that these students be aware of this disorder in order to survive their university lives. First, it should be known to all that depression is caused by many factors instead of believing that it is caused by a one-time event such as failing an exam. Depression among college students may be rooted on their inability to adjust to the culture of their university. Changes in their environment, being away from the family, and new peers and influences stress these students, and when they fail to adapt, they inevitably fall into the abyss of depression. The increased competitiveness in the universities and greater academic demands of parents add to these factors which push students to be depressed. Failure to accomplish these goals and responsibilities over and over is another great leap to sadness and frustration. The different lifestyle of being a college student is another factor due to chemical imbalances, lack of sleep, and poor...

...Abstract: The proposed research is designed to distinguish an answer to the argument that college sports participation takes away from the student’s academic performance. While several studies show that sports participation causes children to do worse in school then those that are not participating in sports, it is unclear if this affiliation is a result of negative academics from the child, or due to the impact of the sports on the kids minds and ability to participate in school. The general focus of this study is on how athletes and non-athlete’s grade are during the school year. The study will examine the effects of sports participation on many different measures of their academic performance. Participants (N-40) will be sent an online...
