In the 21st century, transformations are now occurring globally. The social structure and quality of life are now becoming important issues raised everywhere in awareness of how these aspects are predominantly affecting everyone. In light of the transformations occurring now, in the 21st century, the relationship between leisure, work and society is even more interconnected than ever. For example, the technological breakthroughs in this century are far more than ever. Some of the new technology made now has enabled people to do and make things faster; and yet people are still complaining of working long hours and not having “time for oneself.” Time management, in simple words means prioritizing or controlling the time for all activities in the most efficient way possible. Time is also said to be “managed” upon reaching the highest possible productivity in any task/activity. This time managed benefits the individual in various ways such as being able to fulfil all tasks productively, keeping the individual organised and de-stressed, having a low feeling of pressure and as a whole personal enrichment from added value resulting from the managed work/activities. At the same time, leisure is important whether or not time is managed as this is the main factor that enables people to de-stress. Yet, this is becoming a “monotonous activity” instead of time to relax and rejuvenate oneself, i.e. de-stress.

From my experience in making a time plan and keeping a time record, I discovered not only how work, society and leisure are connected but how the social structure and quality of life is affected. From my time keeping, it was evidently I was not on either side of any extremity, being either too lazy or too busy. My “work” consisted of studying my university subjects and leisure was in the form of sleeping and going out with friends. After planning and recording what I
