Goal Setting

...what you did do. The point of setting a goal is to achieve a desired result, and work as hard as you have to, to achieve it. By doing this at your internship you will grow as a person and learn things you usually will not learn in a classroom setting. In my current internship my goal is to learn more about the “Real World.” I am an accounting major and I have spent most of my time learning about accounting from a desk. In the classroom most of what we discuss is conceptual, it is not real, but often what is referenced could be. From my internship I hope to take what I have learned and apply it to a real scenario. I want the “Real World” to be a real thing, not a distant concept. By bringing the “Real World” to real life my goal is to learn new skills and business practices. I want to learn what it is like to be an account from day to day. I want to know if it is really something I want to do for the next 30 plus years. I want to see how real professionals conduct themselves at work, and learn to do the same. I want to see the accounting process in action, what’s it really like. This internship will help me learn what I want to, and it will prepare me for my future career. Learning how to work and behave at my internship in a business environment...

Real Estate Project

...would want to help me in the beginning. After talking with professor, I changed my method by going to the agents. Citi Habitats is one of the largest real estate broker agents in New York City. I have learned this agent from the internet research I did during making the phone calls, so I decided to visit this agent first. I checked all the locations of this agent and listed them down. To choose the agent go visit is another tricky part, because people normally do not want to do extra works in a very busy environment. I chose a Citi Habitats on the upper west of Manhattan. This place is not very crowded and people there would be relatively easier to talk with. I went into the agent and stated my reason that I need to complete a project given by my professor. Fortunately, the lady in the front desk would like to help me to find a broker in the firm. She introduced me to broker Jason Kim Woodman, who is a senior associate at Citi Habitats. I used my English name Amy. Mr. Woodman is a very kind person and helped me to answer the questions in the project. 2. Basic Information for rough choosing For a real estate purchaser, people need to consider many facts before they buy a real estate. First is always the personal ability. Normally people rely on loans to buy a house or an apartment, so the monthly income is very critical for choosing a real estate. From the talk to the Mr. Woodman, I have known that people could get 80% to 90% percent of the whole real estate payment from...

...flexibility and strong interpersonal relationship it manifests are both in line with my values as long as potential incongruities are mitigated. 1. The high degree of flexibility at Bascom Group is in line with my values as long as the work is predictable and well planned. 2. Strong interpersonal relationship at Bascom Group is congruent with my personality. However this may also becomes an obstacle for me to integrate into the company if the strong culture does not welcome new entrants. In order to better fit in Bascom Group for internship, two initiatives must be taken: 1. Make sure my one-to-one mentor at Bascom understand that I prefer to set a plan for my internship in advance by communicating with him/her directly. 2. Gain the trust from future coworkers at Bascom by promoting the mutual understanding before internship starts. HIGH DEGREE OF FLEXIBILITY High Degree of Flexibility is Enjoyed by Employees: According to my analysis, the flexibility that employees enjoy at Bascom Group stems from three reasons. 1) Project-based job responsibility. Being a boutique private equity real estate investment company, Bascom Group focuses on acquisition transaction as its core businesses and outsources other business to its selected partners. (Exhibit 1) Thus major job responsibilities at Bascom are all project-oriented, which allows its employees to have a flexible work style. Bascom does have manual book for newly hired employees or interns. However, according to Mr. Han Jang, the Acquisition...

Ball Girl

...The Amazing Catch I will use the three stages of the perception process to identify the process I followed in determining whether or not the situation shown in the video is possible. The video shows a ball girl scaling the back wall of a baseball field and catching a home run. I believe that the ball girl catch was real; I will explain how I used the three stages of perception to come to my conclusion. I will also describe the characteristics of each step, and information I focused on. Before I begin with my conclusion I feel it would be best to explain the perception process, and how the stages work together. I will later define the stages and characteristics of each, and explain how they pertain to the ball girl catching the ball. The first stage of the Perception process is selection. Selection is when something sticks out from normal, and is brought to your attention and you decide it warrants further investigation. Once something is brought to your attention, the second step of the Perception process is organization. Organization is how you categorize and quantify the information that is brought to your attention. After you have organized the information your third step in the Perception process is interpretation. Interpretation is your final conclusion on the information or situation you have observed. The first step in the stages of the perception process is selection. Selection is defined as the process of attending to a stimulus (Kory 109); this means something...

Discrimination Against Heavy Women

...Discrimination Against Heavy Women Women all over the world are living up to the pressure of looking like the typical magazine or billboard model, where larger women are rarely seen as the center point. In recent years, it has been questioned if the way people perceive larger women should be changed by putting more of these women in the media. W. Charisse Goodman’s excerpted chapter titled “One Picture is Worth a Thousand Diets,” from his book The Invisible Women: Confronting Weight Prejudice in America and Meghan Daum’s article titled “Those Unnerving ads using “Real” Women,” published in the Los Angeles Times, both gave me insight to this debate. Although both Goodman and Daum identify the problems of how women are portrayed in media, Goodman believes it to have a positive influence, whereas Daum sees it as a public indecency. Both articles made me question how we portray women and how we should portray women and persuaded me to believe there is a lack of larger women in the media. In his excerpted chapter “One Picture is Worth a Thousand Diets,” from his book The Invisible Woman: Confronting Weight Prejudice in America W. Charisse Goodman debates the hardship of being a heavy woman in America, where everywhere you look women are persuaded that thin is the only beauty and the key to happiness. Goodman starts off by telling the many ratios of thin women to heavy women in the media, with thin women always at a much larger number than heavy women. He then goes on to explain that in...

Blissful Ignorance In Barbara Kingsolver's The Bean Trees

...world. Yet, the real world always catches up. No matter how much some people do to protect blissful ignorance, something will always corrupt the peace. This relates to me and many others, who have had parents that try to shield us from the dangers of the real world. However, we are not able to completely avoid the evils in the world, and we are never ready for it. No matter how much some people may try to shield our eyes, somehow we will always learn about what really goes on. In the Bean Trees, Taylor is unable to protect Turtle from the real world’s evils, try as much as she does. When Taylor receives Turtle from a random stranger after leaving home, the real world has broken Turtle already. “I thought I knew about every ugly thing that one person does to another, but I had never even thought about such things being done to a baby girl.” (Kingsolver 24) Even...

Personal Narrative: A Beautiful Mind

...do not have delusions, but I have intense thoughts, worries, and other emotions over unnecessary things. Anxiety is basically your body’s way of feeling like it is in danger when it really isn’t. Part of my brain perceives the feeling of anxiety while the other part knows that there is no real danger to me, that it is just anxiety, and that is also a living nightmare at times. Throughout the movie, John realized that his delusions are not real; he still perceives them but no longer believes that they are real. Similarly, before I was diagnosed with OCD, I did not understand what the anxiety was making me feel like. Now, I still feel the same anxiety, but I know that what my anxiety makes me think is not true....

My Interviwe

... My interview and research Being in real estate business is a great opportunity to make money and become debt free for good. From my view of the Real Estate industry there are the Pros and Cons in the real estate industry. So many people take the wrong path and end up in a deeper hole then when they started. I think it is wise to start a real estate with a partner because of the long process of starting any business let alone a real estate business. On Aug 01-2014 I had an interview with Abdulwhab Abashaar a former reals estate agent and business owner. This Father of 6 has built his 3 story home from the ground up. Amazed with his story, I asked him, how he managed to accomplish so much. He replied by being organized and with a whole lot of dedication. In this interview I asked Mr. Abashaar about his experience with starting out in the real estate business, and he told me that it is a lot harder starting alone. He then continued to explain about the cost of starting up as well as the stress. Mr. Abashaar decided to invite a close friend become a partner. He told me that it was a relief to have someone he could trust to do business with. The advantages of the real estate business * Less stress Once everything is planned out the money is flowing, there will be no more worries about money or jobs as long as everything is planned out carefully. * Choices Being in the real estate industry creates more opportunities...

Mns Real Estate, Current Events

...MNS Real Estate As I was walking home, I saw an ad that caught my attention. There were no pictures or catching images, but as I read their logo I giggled. As I mentioned in the Super Bowl paper, ads or commercials that make me smile or laugh are more memorable to me than others. The advertisement, located on 6th avenue on an old phone booth, stated in plain text, “I don’t remember his name, but his apartment…” This is a real attention-grabbing headline. MNS real estate uses sex as an advertising tool, something that is usually not associated with real estate ads. Moreover, by choosing to not include any images and instead emphasize the text, the message is clearer. Based on MNS real estate ad, their target audience is people between the ages of 20-35. They are probably young professionals seeking to buy or rent an apartment in the city. The ad is targeted towards a younger audience because the subject matter is something that is easily relatable to them. For me, the advertisement worked. I understood their concept, their joke and the company left me with an unforgettable impression. This type of “teasing” campaign wouldn’t perhaps work in other parts of The United States, but it definitely suits the New York aesthetic. This shows how important it is to not only think about the consumers but also the location where you are advertising. It is hard to define what type of marketing management philosophy they are using, but it is closer to the market orientation...

The Last Leaf

...mail from students who try to write theses about it or requests from Japanese dramaturges to turn It into a sort of Noh play. It seems likely to survive, while other works of mine that I value more bite the dust. This is not an unusual experience for an artist. Rachmaninoff used to groan because he was known mainly for a Prelude in C Sharp Minor which he wrote as a boy, while the works of his maturity never got into the programmes. Kids cut their pianistic teeth on a Minuet in G which Beethoven composed only so that he could detest it. I have to go on living with A Clockwork Orange, and this means I have a sort of authorial duty to it. I have a very special duty to it in the United States, and I had better now explain what this duty is. Let me put the situation baldly. A Clockwork Orange has never been published entire in America. The book I wrote is divided into three sections of seven chapters each. Take out your pocket calculator and you will find that these add up to a total of twenty-one chapters. 21 is the symbol for human maturity, or used to be, since at 21 you got the vote and assumed adult responsibility. Whatever its symbology, the number 21 was the number I started out with. Novelists of my stamp are interested in what is called arithmology, meaning that number has to mean something in human terms when they handle it. The number of chapters is never entirely arbitrary. Just as a musical composer...
