...The company quickly expanded to other states in the US and various countries around the world. Over the years, Baskin-Robbins developed over 1000 ice cream flavours along with other novelties like milk shakes, smoothies, cakes, etc. In the summer of 2003, Dream Works Pictures Ltd. released their animated children's movie; Sinbad: The Legend of the Seven Seas. To promote the release in an innovative way, the studio tied up with Baskin-Robbins, a well known ice cream chain in the US. As part of the promotion campaign Baskin-Robbins developed a range of ice creams and novelties based on the theme of the movie. Ice cream flavors like Sinbad's Triple Punch Sherbet, Deep Blue Menace Sundae, and a Sinbad themed freeze frame cake were brought out by the company. The flavors effectively captured the ethos of the movie and generated immense publicity for both partners. The summer of 2003 was the third summer in which Baskin-Robbins had taken up the promotion of a Hollywood movie. "We've translated Sinbad's courageous spirit into a bold new line-up of flavors and desserts," said Joe Adney, (Adney) senior director of marketing at Baskin-Robbins. Analysts felt that Baskin-Robbins had hit upon a novel way of partnering for mutual benefit as the hype generated by the movie release brought publicity for Baskin-Robbins and Baskin-Robbins, in turn, helped publicize the movie. Approximately 2400 Baskin-Robbins' stores participated in the promotion, which was supplemented by extensive television...

...President George Walker Bush had a very interesting life before becoming the president of the United States of America. Bush was born in Grace-New Haven Community Hospital the summer of 1946. Growing up he had a passion for baseball and wanted to be a professional baseball player, as it was his early passion. Bush went to high school at the Kinkaid School in Piney Point Village Texas for two years, and then finished up in the Phillips School in Andover, Massachusetts. Graduating in the class of 1963, the class thought of Bush as a young person of considerable skill and charm. After high school he entered Yale University in 1964, with a SAT score of 1206. Even though his score was a bit below average, he still graduated in 1968 with a grade point average of 2.35. After that, he entered in the Texas Air National Guard with a shaky military career, because he never wanted to fight in combat. His participation was so low he didn’t qualify for combat duty, or an honorable discharge. However, he managed to work out a deal and was honorably discharged even though he did not earn it. He then applied to Harvard business school with a grade point average of 2.35. Compared to today it’s relatively low but managed to graduate with a MBA degree and below average grades. He was elected Governor of Texas in 1994 and was reelected in 1998. When George Bush took office in the very tight 2000-election campaign, it really showed that in office presidents need to be ready for the unexpected. After...

...A Brief History of Music in Film Going to the movies is one of America’s top favorite pass times; and no movie-going experience would be complete without the accompanying sound tracks. The music in movies often heightens the suspense and deepens the drama. The right background music can make us fall in love with a character, be terrified of the villain, or even adore an unlikely hero. Starting with Silent films and continuing until today, music has been an important part in the movie industry. In the beginning, movies had no sound and eventually the studios figured out they needed something for their movies to be more entertaining. Very quickly they figured out music would supplement and go along well with the action on the screen. Music has always been able to affect people emotionally, so it made a perfect accompaniment for movies. In the early theaters, pianos quickly became a well-recognized fixture. Organs quickly followed and music became a permanent part of the movie-going experience. At first, it was up to musicians to choose what music they would play during the films; but the music still didn’t have a true designated purpose, other than used as filler. Eventually the studios began producing music for the musicians that was more suitable for the film. The music became more and more specialized based on what the studio wanted, until music was specifically written for each film. In fact, Charlie Chaplin composed his own music for some of his films...

The first time you do this you’ll need to register and then after that you can, you know, continue adding stuff. So that’s how it works. That’s the technical stuff. One more thing before we start and right now you’ll notice the video quality is so-so. It’s not great. It’s not terrible, I hope, but it’s not great because this is going to all of the Internet right now. So, you know, I apologize. We’re...

...As of 2014, more than 650,000 children were involved in foster care. More than half of these children were non-white (Foster Care - Children's Rights). The numbers continue to rise as years go by and we are seeing these children become products of their environment. Once they age out of foster care nearly a quarter are homeless, sixty percent of males have been convicted of a crime, and more than two-thirds of women have a child (Fessler). With all of these children under the care of the states, these children will soon age out and become members of our society. With almost forty-seven percent of former foster children being unemployed (CR Staff) they are contributing nothing to society, thus making this a huge societal problem. So, what happens...

...When a new song is released, depending on public opinion, the record could sell thousands of copies and as a result be played on the radio several times a day reaching hundreds of thousands of listeners. Unless parents have the ability to strictly monitor all of their children’s music choices and I don’t know many who do, the young people today are hearing all sorts of gender messages through music that may be subconsciously shaping who they are. Even though there are many different genres of music I am going to focus on the rap culture and the messages they emit. Many of the rap songs portray women as weak and submissive. Several of the songs include violence against women whether it is sexual, mental or domestic which displays an overall lack of respect for females. While at the same time the man is portrayed as strong, wealthy and powerful and overall domineering of the woman. Rarely in rap music, is there a song that paints a picture of the woman having power over the man. The first song that came to mind when given this assignment was Eminem Love The Way You Lie featuring Rihanna. The song received 5 Grammy nominations and was number one on 26 weekly record charts including Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks. The single sold more than 5 million copies in the United States alone. I remember hearing the song for the first time when my, at the time, 13 year old...

...Tier 3 signifies that the government in Venezuela has done very little and won’t comply to fix human trafficking issues. Even though they are not making significant changes, they have still managed to arrest seven individuals who were suspected of human trafficking. Although Venezuela hasn’t put in much effort, they still have serious laws on the topic. The trafficking of women and girls would result in the person getting fifteen to thirty years in prison. Another law states that group organizations or organized criminal groups that are involved with human trafficking get twenty to thirty years in prison. In 2016, Venezuela did not report a total number of cases for human trafficking, individuals prosecuted or convicted of human trafficking. There were about five cases that Venezuela pursued during the entirety of a year. Having five cases in one year is not realistic for Venezuela, which would lead people to believe that their government is hiding a significant number of...

...television per day”(Levine). For kids under the age of six the time spent in front of the television is also around two hours while kids and teens tend to spend as much as four hours in front of the television. The violence depicted on television has a major effect on children. “On an average, American children witness around 200,000 acts of violence in television by the time they turn 18”(Odec). This makes them less sensitive and increases their aggressiveness since this television violence is often portrayed to be fun and acceptable. Children, particularly girls, are much more likely than adults to be portrayed as victims of violence on TV, and this can make them more afraid of the world around them Some of the most violent TV shows are children's cartoons, in which violence is portrayed as humorous and realistic consequences of...

...Children as Consumers: Advertising and Marketing Children as Consumers: Advertising and Marketing Sandra L. Calvert Summary Marketing and advertising support the U.S. economy by promoting the sale of goods and services to consumers, both adults and children. Sandra Calvert addresses product marketing to children and shows that although marketers have targeted children for decades, two recent trends have increased their interest in child consumers. First, both the discretionary income of children and their power to influence parent purchases have increased over time. Second, as the enormous increase in the number of available television channels has led to smaller audiences for each channel, digital interactive technologies have simultaneously opened new routes to narrow cast to children, thereby creating a growing media space just for children and children’s products. Calvert explains that paid advertising to children primarily involves television spots that feature toys and food products, most of which are high in fat and sugar and low in nutritional value. Newer marketing approaches have led to online advertising and to so-called stealth marketing techniques, such as embedding products in the program content in films, online, and in video games. All these marketing strategies, says Calvert, make children younger than eight especially vulnerable because they lack the cognitive skills to understand the persuasive intent of television and online advertisements....

...History Creating ABC From the organization of the first true radio networks in the late 1920s, broadcasting in the United States was dominated by two companies, CBS and RCA's NBC. Before NBC's 1926 formation, RCA had acquired AT&T Corporation's New York City station WEAF (later WNBC, now CBS-owned WFAN). With WEAF came a loosely organized system feeding programming to other stations in the northeastern U.S. RCA, before the acquisition of the WEAF group in mid-1926, had previously owned a second such group, with WJZ in Newark as the lead station (purchased by RCA in 1923 from Westinghouse) . These were the foundations of RCA's two programming services, the NBC "Red" and NBC "Blue" networks. Legend has it that the color designations originated from the color of the push-pins early engineers used to designate affiliates of WEAF (red pins) and WJZ (blue pins). After a three-year investigation, the FCC in May 1940 issued a "Report on Chain Broadcasting." Finding that NBC Red, NBC Blue, CBS, and MBS dominated American broadcasting, this report proposed "divorcement", requiring the sale by RCA of one of its chains. NBC Red was the larger radio network, carrying the leading entertainment and music programs. In addition, many Red affiliates were high-powered, clear-channel stations, heard nationwide. NBC Blue offered most of the company's news and cultural programs, many of them "sustaining" or unsponsored. Among other findings, the FCC claimed RCA used NBC Blue to suppress competition...
