...Based on my scores on the questionnaire, I have three areas in which I am strongest and they are motivating myself toward a goal, getting back on track after procrastinating, and understanding how managing my time can help reduce my stress level. I also found out what my weak areas are and they are after setting a long-term goal, breaking it down into short-term goals and recording tasks, events, responsibilities in a planner and checking it regularly. I feel by being able to motivate myself towards a goal I will be more likely to actually accomplish the long-term goal. I feel by being able to get myself back on track after procrastinating will be very beneficial for me because after I realize I am procrastinating I promptly get back to what I supposed to be doing. I feel by understanding how managing my time helps me reduce my stress level will be helpful because it encourages me to make schedules, plan events, and not procrastinate; when I was in high school I use to get home from school and just play video games or hang out with friends, now that I’m working for a security company I have learned how to manage my time and prioritize my task. I know I need to work on setting long-term goals and breaking them down it into smaller/short-term goal and recording tasks and events in a planner and checking it regularly. I need to change both of these because by setting a long term goal and not know how to get there can very daunting, and recording anything in a planner can help me...

...Business Planning Business Plan Introduction My idea for the business that I will be planning is a ‘dog grooming’ business, offering a range of treatments that can be purchased and used in order to care for dogs, ensuring that they are as healthy and clean as possible. This isn’t a very competitive market to enter as there aren’t many dog grooming companies that operate within the UK that can dominate the market nationwide; there will be larger ‘regional’ dog groomers that could possible dominate a specific region/county of the UK. I believe that I will benefit from creating this business and so will the community that is within the surrounding/local area. A lot of people own a dog(s) as pets, with stats from 2013 showing that there are roughly 8.5 million dogs kept as pets within the UK (25% of households) (app 3). A huge amount of people love their dogs and love to care for them, ensuring that they are treated the best way possible, so taking them to a dog grooming service is a great way of caring for them. * Aims & Objectives An aim is a specific goal or purpose, whilst an objective is a specific result that a person or system aims to achieve within a time frame and with available resources. In general, objectives are more specific and easier to measure than goals. Objectives are basic tools that underlie all planning and strategic activities. They serve as the basis for creating policy and evaluating performance. Some examples of business objectives...

...Obstacles contribute to growth in my experience, especially in academics and athletics. Which happen to be the two most important topics in my life currently. Obstacles, failures, or setbacks, are all defined with a similar phrase; an event that hinders success. Whether that takes place in school, on the field, or in the ring, I’ve had plenty of experiences with obstacles. I want to describe how a setback in my track and field athletics helped me determine who I wanted to become. Sports have always been my outlet and I struggled as a kid and early teenager to find a sport that was truly for me. Soccer is another favorite, but it’s not the same kind of rush, or sense of accomplishment that I feel from my track events. My events in track and field are rather, unique. I participate in throwing events, which means I throw different regulated items using different, but regulated techniques. My personal favorite is shot put- throwing an 8.8-pound metal ball into a pit of sand. Shot put has always come easy to me, until I was injured in my junior year season. My chances to make state were quickly slimmed. Facing this obstacle was difficult, annoying, and actually heart breaking. Shot...

...voice in the back of my head telling me “Push harder!” and “Keep up with the rest of the group!” As the gun sounds, I begin to run. As my run became a sprint, I felt my heart pounding and my lungs beginning to tighten. All I heard was the crowd of people starting to cheer as I began to take off. No matter how hard I pushed myself, I realized there was no way I could make my legs move as fast as I wanted them to. Once I crossed the finish, I found myself yet again disappointed. The next day at practice, my coach read off everyone’s times and I felt my heart sink. In that moment I had realized my times were not in line with my other teammates which frustrated me. Even though I got a fairly...

...WHAT IS HIP HOP? By: Mohammed Al-Salem Hip Hop is a cultural movement that developed in New York in the 1970’s, primarily for the African-American and Latino population. Hip Hop consists of four elements; MCing, deejaying, graffiti art and breaking (b-boy/b-girl). The cultural pillars that Hip Hop is founded on are comedy, rivalry, nursery rhymes, storytelling, poetry, and rhyming tendencies in humans. Hip Hop was born in the South Bronx at a summer block party. The father of Hip Hop, DJ Clive “Kool Herc” Campbell is a Jamaican that built upon the Jamaican tradition of toasting. Toasting is rapping the impromptu poetry over music, with this tradition in mind DJ Kool Herc created the blueprint for Hip Hop music as he began to isolate the instrumental portion of the record, creating the break beat; an isolation of one particular section of a musical composition to have a vamp for an MC or b-boy/b-girl. He then added another turntable and bought two copies of the same record to elongate the break beat – this technique is the foundation of Hip Hop and eventually led to the deejaying styles of a pair of legendary deejays, Afrika Bambaataa and Grand Master Flash. Since the first rap record in 1979, “Rapper’s Delight” by Sugar Hill Gang, Hip Hop as a culture has grown immensely and is continuously spreading around the world influencing so many lives. However, before Hip Hop music even existed there were music genres like jazz, rhythm and blues, soul and funk that have...

...several weeks I have analyzed my current diet and exercise habits, as well as reading up on the USDA Food Pyramid Guide and their exercise recommendations. I have taken what I've learned in this class and what I have learned by doing a little research and I was able to personalize a nutrition, diet, and exercise plan for myself. For starters, I will need to take a good look at my current habits and that affect my nutrition and exercise plan. I like to believe I eat pretty healthy, but there is always room in improve. I'm not big on candy or sweets. I also have a hate for milk, so I only drink milk when I eat cereal, and milk is a needed for calcium and vitamin D. I love the sun so I tend to believe I get enough vitamin D from the sun. My diet consist of chicken, salad, vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Since I have an office job and the only time that I have to actually get away is during my lunch hour, so I'm not very active at work, so that kill eight hour of my day right there. I like to ride bikes and take walks, and every now and again I will roller blade. I can honestly say that I haven't been doing too much of any of this, as it's been pretty busy for me. These activities I do take part in aren't really stimulating, and my heart rate is raising much, because I do it at my pace not as if I'm racing someone. When developing a plan for myself I need to be sure that I have activates that will make my heart rate o up, and breaking a good sweat. Running, yoga...

...Responsibility and College Success Being a mother of two while going to school can be overwhelming. Daily tasks such as taking care of my two girls, house chores, and balancing school work is hard to squeeze into a day unless you learn to manage your time wisely. In order to manage your time wisely you must take charge of your actions by practicing self-discipline. Making the right choices can lead to many rewards, but holding yourself accountable for failures will help you make better decisions in the future (Haskins, 2009). Time management, self-discipline, and accountability all comes down to personal responsibility. In my opinion, personal responsibility is setting an attainable goal, taking the actions needed to reach your goal, and holding yourself accountable for those actions. In short, personal responsibility is the key to college success. Self-discipline Planning to go to college is a big step that requires a lot of self-discipline. Self-discipline is about setting attainable goals and being able to follow through until reaching said goals. Setting attainable goals will help you succeed. Attempting goals that are unattainable not only sets you up for failure, but will discourage you from setting new goals in the future. Using a planning strategy of taking a long-term goal and breaking it up into short-term goals will keep you on track (Ellis, 2010). Most people get overwhelmed by a long-term goal and do not see the many minor goals along the way. It is important...

...is portrayed as an excellent thing to practice, there is the possibility of too much perseverance. Throughout my running career, I’ve had some run-ins with “too much perseverance”. There was a time when each and every run was a struggle due to the pain in my shins. As I began my run, the sun’s warmth creating a sticky feel on my skin, the dirty-socks-mixed-with-body-odor smell of my sweat was the last thing on my mind. Pain searing through my shins with each and every teeny-tiny step dominated all the thoughts in my brain. It felt as though my muscles were being torn off of my bone; my bone that was also breaking from the pressure. Tears welling up behind my eyes, I began to search for a distraction from my never-ending pain. I had to pull it together before my “running-buddies” noticed how much pain I was experiencing. I could hear the little giggles as...

...Bad habits interrupt your life and prevent you from accomplishing your goals. They jeopardize your health — both mentally and physically. And they waste your time and energy. So why do we still do them? And most importantly, is there anything you can do about it? I’ve previously written about the science of how habits start, so now let’s focus on the practice of making changes in the real world. How can you delete your bad behaviors and stick to good ones instead? I certainly don’t have all of the answers, but keep reading and I’ll share what I’ve learned about how to break a bad habit. What causes bad habits? Most of your bad habits are caused by two things… Stress and boredom. Most of the time, bad habits are simply a way of dealing with stress and boredom. Everything from biting your nails to overspending on a shopping spree to drinking every weekend to wasting time on the internet can be a simple response to stress and boredom. But it doesn’t have to be that way. You can teach yourself new and healthy ways to deal with stress and boredom, which you can then substitute in place of your bad habits. Of course, sometimes the stress or boredom that is on the surface is actually caused by deeper issues. These issues can be tough to think about, but if you’re serious about making changes then you have to be honest with yourself. Are there certain beliefs or reasons that are behind the bad habit? Is there something deeper — a fear, an event, or a limiting...

...break my future career if I act immorally, it will start a pattern that could be hard to be broken and could possibly deter future potential employers from hiring me. The seasoned officer could be rewarded or penalized as well. The reward could come from showing that he has done a good job with expressing to me, the intern, how important ethics and morals is when it comes to being a juvenile probation officer when it comes to decision making. As far as the probationer goes, if something is allowed to be swept up under the rug, they are not learning from their mistakes. They may continue to act in the same delinquent behavior that got them on probation in the first place and could possibly face more serious trouble in the future. Even though a violation may set them back a bit from some of their accomplishments, it is one of the consequences of violating probation. As an intern, I am expected to act as full time employee of the company and to abide by all of the company’s code of ethics. As a probationer, they are expected to abide by all of the rules set forth by their probation officer. The moral issue: I am out at a bar and I see a probationer that is definitely in violation of their probation. Knowing the consequences that she is faced with, she ask that I not tell her probationer officer so that she will not be violated. She has had several violations in the past and if this violation is reported, it is sure to get her sent to a detention center. This request puts my loyalty...

...Privacy in Today’s Society: The Government is watching ENG 122 Prof. Shannon Bilunas 02/28/13 Privacy in Today’s Society: The Government is watching The thought of someone watching my every move is not only scary but also annoying. It's like living in a house with no doors. Everyone needs privacy in his or her life. I've always heard people refer to the government as "Big Brother". Big brothers are supposed to protect their younger siblings. Is "Big Brother" protecting us? Or just out right being nosey & invading our privacy? In our society today everything we do is being tracked. There's video surveillance everywhere we turn. Every click of a mouse or push of a button on the Internet is being tracked & logged. Almost everything today is GPS enabled. The government can access these records, videos, and locate people from their GPS enabled device without their knowledge. Scott McNealy couldn’t have said it any better “You have zero privacy anyway. Get over it” (Sprenger, 1999, para.1). The evolution of technology has made it easier for Big Brother to watch us. Our privacy against government intrusion is virtually impossible because technology has provided more access than our judicial, legislative and political systems have developed restrictions. After 9/11 The Patriot Act was one of many surveillance laws that made it easier for the government to keep an eye on us. The change in this law gave the government more authority to check any citizen’s Internet...

...Delaney Lim ENGL 134-07 10 April 2012 Breaking Free Do your homework, don’t go to bed too late, do this, don’t do that. Raised in the typical sheltered, strict, and old-fashioned Chinese manner, my mother and father have always been the type to nag me about everything: grades, boys, clothes, chores, etc. Both immigrants from Singapore, they have always pestered my sister and I to work hard, since they came to this country with almost nothing and struggling their way up. In high school, they were members of the PTA, and participated in a majority of my school events. They also attended all of my volleyball games and track meets, whereas most of the girls’ parents hardly ever went. I rarely saw my friends’ parents around and every time that would happen I would think to myself, “Why are my parents always here?” It’s not fun as a high school teenager to have your parents participate in every aspect of your life. I compared my life constantly to my best friend Marissa’s life. She lived in a white household, with deaf parents. She ate what she wanted to eat, while my parents put me on a strict diet. She had fun and went to sleepovers, while I stayed home and did homework. She had permission to stay out late on Friday nights with guy friends, whereas I was forced to lie to my parents because I could not have “boyfriends”. I wasn’t even allowed to highlight my hair like Marissa, without getting a lecture about how my natural hair is pretty already and that I would regret it in the...

...levels of marijuana initiation and decreases in rates of alcohol use over time; females had significantly greater rate of increase in alcohol use over time.” This sample is very useful to notify the reader that the use of alcohol and drugs is commonly used with adolescences in today’s sports world. By knowing this data it makes the readers question, why is todays athletes still so great at what they do and arguably the top athletes in history are performing today, and are constantly breaking records and entertaining the sports world? While alcohol and drugs should normally slow down athletes and keep them from performing at their best. For instance Usain Bolt the fastest person in the world from the Jamaican track team admits to using marijuana on a daily basis due to his cultural back ground and still yet, he performs better than athletes who don’t use marijuana. This article is very informing and as a college athlete I can relate to this and understand where the authors are coming from. Throughout my time of playing competitive sports I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly of players and teammates of mine. In high school I have seen firsthand alcohol and drugs ruin teammates of mines lives...
