...Strategies Lab 1 Mod 3 Well there’s always several good questions People are always wondering where good ideas come from how did the good ideas that reshape Americas future in the 1800’s come from? In the past before the Rise of Coffee and Tea was Beer and Wine where the idea processing was bad and always drunk all the time so when America went from a depressant to a stimulant ideas started rolling on the right track. Like a train track when the people relied on beer and wine for ideas was like adding Tons of butter to the railroad tracks the train always kept falling off topic. But when America switched to Tea and coffee the train tracks stayed on target and never fell of the track once. So what I’m saying is that America should have started drinking coffee sooner to help develop good water to eventually rely on the stuff for sources of good knowledge. But another most important thing about the ideas overall is the space the surroundings you finds yourself in like go to a coffee house talk with other people with different kinds of expertise. Eventually after talking with those people regardless of where you meet them just tossing a few ideas around eventually generates a good idea. But on the flip side of the coin they could also generate bad ideas as well as good ones. Sometimes hteres idea processes like the slow hunch where I person heard of an idea and puts it together like a mentally long puzzle and uses logic to put the puzzle pieces together. They happen in mere moments...

...Executive Summary Union Pacific is the largest freight railroad in North America. In 2007 they transported over one trillion ton-miles of freight earning revenues of $16.28 billion. They operate on 32,000 miles of rail covering the United States west of the Mississippi. Union Pacific is a successful firm both externally and organizationally. The Class I Freight Railroad industry encompasses the seven largest railroads in North America. In the U.S., where Union Pacific operates, Class I Freight Railroads move more than 40% of the freight transported per year, measured in ton-miles. The industry is in the maturity stage, experiencing slow consistent growth. For companies in this industry, it implies tightened operations and good human resource management are essential for success. The industry incumbents benefit from high barriers to entry due to the amount of capital requirements. Substitutes play a moderate role in the industry, while buyers and suppliers are on neutral ground with the railroads. Lastly, rivalry varies from area to area, but is average as a whole. This is shown in the analysis of captive versus noncaptive customers. Union Pacific mainly transports commodities in five primary industries; agriculture, automotive, chemical, energy, and industrial. These customers look for competitive pricing, on time delivery, and good customer service. In order to be successful in this industry, a railroad must have the resources to serve all the needs of these customers. Since...

...Class: Business and Social Responsibility Professor: Pete Macky Andrew Carnegie Andrew Carnegie was arguably one of the richest men in America. From his companies emerged the steel to build the infrastructures such as railroads, bridges, automobiles, and ships that would build a nation in need of direction. He played a major role in the transformation into the Industrial Revolution, producing the steels to make machinery and transportation possible. Carnegie built his empire from cost control, low prices, low profits, and high volume to make himself the richest man in the world. Some people call him a villain, some people call him a hero? So, was Carnegie really a business hero in American history? Andrew Carnegie was born in a very poor family from Scotland. His first job was at the age of thirteen; he was working as a bobbin boy in a cotton mill. It was his second job in which he was able to learn many important structures of business. Working most of the day, he never had time to go to school like other kids. Therefore, he went to the library to study whenever he has time. He later was hired by Thomas A.Scott to work as a private secretary and a personal telegrapher. When the Civil War came, he was the right hand man of Scott, who was the supervisor of military transportation for the North back then. Working as Scott’s right hand man, Carnegie was able to gain experience in the railroad industry. After the Civil War, Carnegie took Scott’s former position as superintendent...

...Automatic Train Track Switching System This system is a great idea for the rail road world because there is nobody operation the system meaning there cant be no human errors. And this system is also backed up with a lot of electrical safety standards like the sensing unit photodode that ensures the reliable detection of oncoming trains. And a low power DC motor is what the track switching devise uses, connected to a communication line for the main monitoring room and the switching devise, to put the train on the tracks it has to be in. the system is also a economical and beneficial switch with a micro-controller that is easy and has a less cost to maintain. What I personally like about the system is that is can also be controlled manually from the main control room to give the system a expansion of operation. Also how the system detects a train that is head towards the switching system amuses me as well. It has track circuits to detect the train and to see the condition of the train, all in a central room. I agree that this system is a great devise to put on the rail road system due to the fact that it is precise, reliable, low cost, no human error, low cost maintenance. Authors: Md. ...Ethics & Credibility in Business Communications: WMATA Rail System Gwenda Woodland COM/295 August 10, 2015 Sandra Norris Ethics & Credibility in Business Communications: WMATA Rail System The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (“WMATA”) has been plagued with various problems within its system and on the Metro rails lately. These issues are causing Metro riders much grief and they do not feel safe or find the Metro to be dependable at this time. The problems that the Metro rail has been experiencing are rails smoking due to electrical arcing, derailment of trains, and the constant malfunction of the Metro escalators. Metro riders are concerned that whenever there are serious issues taking place in the Metro system WMATA does not have things under control, or notify the riders in a timely manner so that things do not get out of control. Electrical Arcing Accident On January 12, 2015, there was an electrical arcing accident at the L’Enfant Plaza Metro station which caused the station and two trains to fill with smoke. Panic was definitely in the air because the Metro riders were not notified immediately of an emergency evacuation plan or how quickly the situation was going to be resolved. Unfortunately, there was one passenger fatality and two passengers were hospitalized in serious condition. (National Transportation Safety Board, 2015) Train Derailment On August 5, 2015, a derailment of a non-passenger train at the Smithsonian Metro...

...Economic, Technological, Political, and Sociocultural Trends in strategic development CSX is one of seven class 1 railroads operating in the United States. The railroad industry doesn’t compete in a real free market. They tend to be somewhat monopolistic due to their size and scope, and for this reason they are regulated by the government. But as with any other business, the state of the economy is a factor on their profitability. With a continuingly slow economy the railroad services will remain lower in demand than CSX would like. As with mostly all of the other transportation services, the cost of fuel is a major contributing factor towards CSX’s bottom line. CSX and much of the railroad industry have implemented and continue to implement new technology to help keep their costs down, which allows them to be more competitive. According to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, freight moved on trains would cost shippers an additional $70 billion on standard trucks. Fuel efficiency is not the only technological advancement being made in the railroad industry. As with many other businesses in the field of logistics, GPS and other wireless technologies continue to add efficiency. New technologies are being applied to increase safety. Over the last 5 years CSX has had a 40% improvement in the rate of train accidents. Being a regulated industry, railroad is at sometimes more than others, highly connected to the political environment...

...out these plans. 2.) The company recognizes good employees and work well done but lacks in the reinforcing rules and guidelines across the board. Kenco has some very well written policies but needs to reinforce them. 3.) New ideas need to be sought from and used in all parts of Kenco. 4.) The upper management needs to get feedback and suggestions on decisions from people that are affected by the decisions. For example a new rule on being late or absent was implemented without any input from employees who it affected. The new rule on being absent did not bother employees that much but the rule on being late met lots of resistance from employees. Our facility is located in between two railroad tracks so in any direction you come in you have to cross a railroad track. This is a big problem with getting to work on time in the mornings and getting back to work from lunch. 5.) Teamwork could...

These prefabricated stands were brought on the spot Installed in a dozen days, in the style of a huge construction set. Stands were 32 meters long weigh each 4 tons. This stadium counted 3200 places and is encircled by a cycle track of 666,66 meters in length with no lanes. The realization of this track was made according to the rate of clay in the ground. If there is an average rate of clay, the ground is moistened until become a thick mud which is spread. If there is a strong rate of clay, the ground is used such as removed from the ground and compacted with feet. If there is a low rate of clay, we add straw and droppings. ...Assignment 1.2: Industrialization After the Civil War David T. LaPradd Strayer University After the Civil War, the mass production of steel helped shape America. The mass production of steel allowed the country to increase the manufacturing of the equipment. This was significant in the production of the railway tracks and allowed the country to grow. This growth provided jobs for the working class, the ability to move the goods produced to the marketplaces, and moved the people for the expansion to the west. The early production of steel was costly and time consuming. In England, Henry Bessemer developed an inexpensive way to mass produce steel. The key principle behind his patent was to remove the impurities from the iron by oxidation with air being blown through the molten iron. The iron heated up with the oxidation and kept it in a molten state. This new process changed the manufacturing of a rail that took two weeks to produce down to 15 minutes. Andrew Carnegie brought this process back to the United States. Carnegie saw all of the possible uses of this mass produced steel but before he could realize the materials potential he had to convince the public of its strength. He was charged with building the first permanent bridge to cross the Mississippi River by Tom Scott. Building the bridge utilizing this new processing of steel was what he needed. The bridge took four years to build and had many cost overruns. When it was finally...

...Stand By Me “Stand by Me” is a film about the journey of four boys from Castle Rock, Oregon, USA in search of a dead body. The film is directed by Rob Reiner, based on a book called “The Body” by Stephen King. I am going so concentrate on, and describe the main character of the story, Gordie LaChance who is played by Will Wheaton. I will show you how he is coming to terms with adulthood throughout the film. I will use camera techniques to show you this. The opening of the film enters with a long shot of ripened cornfields and a car placed at the side of the road. It is clearly autumn with winter on its way this matches Gordie's mood and time of life. The lighting in these first images suggest sunset and the day being over. The music is peaceful and full of emotion. The music straight away indicates loneliness. This environment tells us that the man in the car, Gordie LaChance is feeling lonely and sad. The emotions on his face and his body language tell us this also. A close up of a paper, which he is clutching in his hand, is the reason for this. The headline on the paper reads, “ Attorney Chris Chambers fatally stabbed in restaurant.” Chris was Gordie’s best friend when he was twelve years old. The directors have two boys cycle past the Landover and off into the distance in a point of view shot. This camera technique is excellent as it shows us boys cycling into the distance takes us to the past, as the structure of the film is a flashback. There is a zoom in from a medium...
