The past four years of my life have been chaotic, fun, and full of work. The most memorable thing was the very first class I had freshman year. My teacher, Mr. Kahler, was a former college professor, gave us a lecture on how important high school was. He wanted to make it clear that high school was a place to learn and to become successful. Mr. Kahler caught my attention and made me question myself about what I wanted to do when I get older. I asked him a question about it the next day and he told me to set goals for myself to achieve. So after that day I started setting goals for myself throughout my four years of high school. Freshman year, I set a goal to have at least a 3.0 grade point average every report card I received. I started paying …show more content…
I wanted to be the first person in my family to go to an sec college. When I set this goal, I wanted to go to University of Arkansas and make my family proud. I had one major step to achieving that goal and that was to make at least a 26 on the ACT. If I made this score then I would be eligible for scholarships. After setting this goal, I started going to an ACT prep class and studying every night. When I was ready, I took the test and scored a 24 and was so disappointed in myself. Even though I was feeling dejected, I did not give up and used that for more motivation. My second time taking the ACT I studied for a week before and made a 27. I completed the first step and waited for senior year to come by. I applied to University of Arkansas and was accepted two weeks …show more content…
So I decided to make it one of my many long term goals. I have to be able to make at least a B average and be apart of greek life for my first two years. If I were to major in biochemical engineering then I would be making a minimum of $90,000 starting at the age of twenty-three. I have also wanted to live in another country and to explore parts of the world. Learning a different language and exploring new places has always interested me, so thats why I made it a long term goal. When I need motivation to keep on going, I always think about my first day in high school. It has always help me keep one pushing through even when it is hard

Foundation Schools

...Problem Solution: Foundation Schools MMPBL/510 Problem Solution: Foundation Schools Foundations Schools is the largest provider of special needs education in the United States (UOP scenario, p. 1). There are three campuses, serving about 1000 students, increasing about 5% a year, but the board believes that number could be higher and has “adopted a new strategy that uses business development as the model to increase funding sources and revenue” (UOP, scenario, p. 1). They have outlined a three year program plan, with several new projects; however, they have developed some issues with formulating some aspects of the plan, because of the lack of strategic planning. The Foundation Schools wants to implement successfully the projects outlined in the business plan over the next two years. The implementation and process will need to satisfy the school’s mission and strategic plan for growth in both student population and revenue. The school’s faculty, board of directors and administration must be open to change and have the talent and resources to put these changes in motion. Successful program management creates both the structure and practices to: A. Guide the program and provide senior-level leadership, oversight, and control. B. Strategically, it encompasses the relationship between the oversight effort and the organization’s business direction. C. Foundation Schools will need to encompass the decision-making roles and responsibilities involved...

Personal Goals

...As a professional at Deloitte Pvt Ltd three personal goals that I want to achieve are, first is to complete my bachelor of science in business management in 2 years. Next is to become a better writer. Throughout junior college, writing has always been my weakest point and with the amount of writing assignments required at University of Phoenix this needs to be one of my top goals. Finally is to complete every course with no less than a B letter grade. With making the decision to return to school and taking on the considerable financial burden, receiving an average grade would be unacceptable to my standards.      While being employed full-time, The University of Phoenix has the rare opportunity for working professionals to finish courses in just 5 weeks. Having such a compressed time schedule for completing degrees will make it possible to complete my bachelor of science in business management in 2 years as long as I do not deviate from the program. I have decided that my number one priority in life is to complete my degree. I do not have other major commitments outside of work that will distract me from my assignments so staying focused on school will be realistic. Though I cannot predict the future, I do not plan on taking any time off during the two years that would result in interrupting my class schedule. With the option of taking CLEP test this will allow me to “test out” of some of the lower-division courses such as communication arts and humanities. Although this will...

Factors Affecting Study Habit

... Approved December 17, 2013 www.ala.org/aasl/slr Factors Affecting Students’ Information Literacy as They Transition from High School to College Jana Varlejs, Professor Emerita, Rutgers, 612 S. First Avenue, Highland Park, NJ 08904, 732846-6850 Eileen Stec, Instruction & Outreach Librarian, Douglass Library, Rutgers, New Brunswick, NJ 08901, 848-932-5009 Hannah Kwon, PhD Student, Rutgers SC&I, New Brunswick, NJ 08901 Abstract Despite the considerable attention paid to the need to increase the information literacy of high school students in preparation for the transition to college, poor research skills still seem to be the norm. To gain insight into the problem, library instruction environments of nineteen high schools were explored. The schools were selected based on whether their graduates did well or poorly on information-skills assignments integrated in a required first-year college course. The librarians in the nineteen schools were asked to characterize their working relationships with teachers, estimate their students’ information-literacy achievement, and provide data on their staffing and budgets. Findings suggest that school librarians are seldom in a position to adequately collaborate with teachers and that their opportunities to help students achieve information literacy are limited. Introduction The study reported in this paper was inspired by observations made by students in the Master’s in Library and Information Science (MLIS) program at Rutgers-The...

Survival Guide

...Writing academic papers or just your normal day to day school work can be very intimidating at times. As long as I have the determination and the drive to succeed, conquering these obstacles will be a relatively easy task. Unlike traditional college where you go in and sit in a class and have months before you finish, online schooling is much more demanding. It requires that you have the motivation to complete your work on time and learn the material that is presented in front of you. A lot of knowledge can be carried on from one’s high school experience but like many people, polishing up those skills you learned years back is much needed. What I hope to accomplish with my survival guide is to develop much needed strategies that will help me in my studies in college. Conducting research for academic papers or even discussion questions is not just an option but a requirement. There are many ways to conduct research and with all these sources at your fingertips. Because of the many sources the task can seem overwhelming at times. One powerful tool at everyone’s disposal is the internet. This is a very valuable tool because there is a wealth of information available. Be warned because not all the information on the internet is creditable. A good way to get accurate information is to cross reference several sites and exempt information that is not correct. Another way to conduct research is through the University Library. Much like a search engine on the internet, the University...

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) results showed that my personal career strengths fall under the area of teaching and counseling. Currently, as a school counselor for a high school in Duncanville, Texas, a suburb outside of Dallas, I find the results of the assessment to be very accurate. Making the decision to become a counselor is a rewarding and exciting career choice. In the world of counsling, there are many individuals who place emphasis on not just basic implications, but also on theoretical studies that usually are a part of their professional and personal experiences. As times have change, so have educational curricula. Counselors and educators, their philosophies, and educational standards continue to change; therefore, educators have to take on responsibility and think more about their chosen roles within the educational system and the various means of combining theory and practice. The general examination of the different roles in counseling, personal career assessments and ideological relationships each play a role in the area of education and counseling. As a result of the choice as having a career as a counselor attaches the decision to continue to research theories and then integrate them into areas of education helps to build a solid foundation, which will...

For several decades, researchers have documented the gap between high school and college expectations, noting that even students who complete a college preparatory curriculum in high school are often poorly prepared for college. This lack of alignment contributes to high postsecondary remediation rates and hinders college completion. Over the years, state policymakers and education leaders have responded with a variety of wide-ranging and costly efforts, including the development of state-level content standards and assessments. However, these standards vary widely among states and generally lack sufficient rigor to assure readiness for credit bearing courses in college. It is...

...surprising than the transition they experienced when they moved from high school to university. There is more reading, more lab time, and more writing. The ideas, discussions, and questions are at a higher level. There’s a reason that not everyone does this! Entering your studies with a clear purpose and sense of direction, informed by a thorough understanding of new responsibilities and expectations, can help you to adapt better to the new demands of Masters and Ph.D. level research, organization, presentation, and writing. Perfectionism. Many academics would characterize themselves as perfectionists. To a certain extent, this is a healthy trait that promotes self-awareness and hard work. However, perfectionism can also be crippling as it can make you feel as if you can’t write a paper or make a comment unless it is absolutely brilliant. Remember, you are a student, not an expert. You are discovering new terms, concepts, and areas of study. Your first draft or class presentation will never be perfect, so don’t put too much pressure on yourself. ...behavior to help people with their numerous troubles and concerns they experience during the course of life in their relationships, emotions, and physical selves” (Plante, 2011). The paper will discuss the history and evolving nature of clinical psychology and how psychology is still changing overtime. Next, the paper will discuss the roles that research and statistics play into clinical psychology. Lastly, the paper will include the differences between clinical psychology and other types of health professions, such as clinical psychology versus social work, clinical psychology versus psychiatry, and clinically psychology versus school psychology. History and Evolving Nature of Clinical Psychology Clinical psychology has changed over the last 25 years. For starters the DSM-III was published as well as the APA standards were revised. The American Psychological Society was founded, as well as the APA published the findings from the Presidential Task force for evidence-practice. Two of the main evolved approaches would be the Cognitive-Behavioral Approach as well as the Humanistic Approach. The Cognitive-Behavioral Approach was popular in the 1970s and they were used for depression as well as “treatment focusing on changing thinking, feeling, and expectations became as important as the goal of changing overt behavior” (Plante, 2011). The Humanistic Approach was more based off of philosophy and the theory that humans can grow from understanding experiences and behaviors...

Every aspect of this work has been appropriately referenced using the APA referencing format. Executive Summary Table of Contents Contents of the report with page numbers, list of tables, and list of figures. Introduction to the Research Topic Education and gender equality are critical components of societal progress and development. They reflect basic rights that require no economic justification. This notion is reflected in the inclusion of gender related developmental and propagative objectives in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Yet it is also a case that education and gender equality has broad and positive implications for economic as well as social development to any nation. A significant decline in child illiteracy and maternal mortality remains somewhat elusive and thus the Millennium Developmental Goals initiative that has been deemed to reduce child illiteracy and promote gender equality coupled with the establishment of women empowerment within all regions of the world is poised with inconsistent progress rates within some certain countries. To deliver such Millennium Development goals and MDG3 and its supporting targets which promotes specifically gender equality and empowers women, it will be critical to elevate...

Procrastination Gen200

...Research Strategy Paper Malcom McDonnell Gen/200 September 14. 2010 Anthony Boccia Research Strategy Paper A problem that I have identified in which I have in my academic life is procrastination. Procrastination has been an issue for me since my years in high school and it is time I develop a strategy to deal with this “catastrophic” issue. In this paper I will develop a research strategy to find a solution for my academic procrastination and will incorporate these solutions into my academics. Have you ever received an assignment or project and you are given a few days to complete it. You tell yourself “ok, I am going to start working on the assignment tomorrow”. Now tomorrow has come and you know you have to start working on your assignment but then you’re going “well I still have two more days to do it” so you tell yourself “ok I will start tomorrow because I still have another day before it’s due”. Next thing you know it’s the night before your assignment is due and now you are stressing out, pressing for time, and up past midnight trying finishing your assignment. This what I have been doing for the last three years in school, waiting till the last minute to start a paper or study for exam. By me procrastinating when it comes to school work I feel pressured, stressed, and also feel as if I am not creating work that is to the best of my ability, this has caused me to receive grades that I was unsatisfied with and really has just made me an average student. Why I Decided to Return to College

...something many young Americans feel is out of their reach. In order to be able to provide yourself or your family with a short at a better life college is something that must be accomplished. When you are able to fulfill your goal of finishing your college education it makes looking to the future a little easier. In this particular research paper I will tell you how returning to college the best decision for my life was. How earning a college degree will make life easier? When you think about college and a career you want to choose a career that will bring you joy and that will never seem like you are tired. Some of us think that earning lot of money is the most important thing when choosing a career. It’s not, being able to enjoy what you do will make life easier and seem as if you are not working but doing a hobby. Remembering back at my high school days a teacher told us to find something we are good at and enjoy and make a career out of it. I am learning the importance of not picking a career that has the highest earning potential because it could be a job that I am miserable. Choosing something you love will never feel like work. When a person finish college and obtain a degree they are more than likely able to earn more money than a high school or GED graduate. A person should never get into a career that will have them stressed out on a daily basic’s. If we keep in mind that working should be awarding and fun, then there will be no time for stress. Finally...
