...the demands of the women of the 1956 march to the modern day woman? Research Introduction Women; resilient, fearless and intellectual beings that were created to aid, to care and to nurture those around them but along the way society, including the South African society they have been neglected and tossed aside and treated like debris, there to be used for whatever was deemed fit by the men, the superior sex in society. ...beautiful people. The list typically includes movie and television stars, musicians, British royalty, models, and television personalities. Every year the magazine crowns the year’s “most beautiful” and features them on the cover. Of the 22 most beautiful 19 have been women and out of the 19 women 16 have been White. This signals to People’s readers that beautiful means White and everything else does not equate beauty. However, this is not unique to People or even magazines like it, but instead represents a larger trend that is present in all forms of Western popular culture. In the various mediums of popular culture, ideologies about female beauty are exceedingly prevalent and constantly managed and reproduced. These ideologies carry with them the notion that in order to obtain ideal female beauty one must be very thin, young, have long hair, and wear expensive or revealing clothing (Stern, 2004). In addition to this there is also a raced definition of beauty, which predominates Western popular culture and dictates that White women with light hair and eye color can only attain true beauty. By looking closely at fashion magazines, television shows, movies and advertisements it is easy to see how Asian, Black and Latina women are underrepresented and misrepresented; and more importantly beauty is not typically associated with these and other nonwhite races. The power and importance of popular culture in today’s society has further supported beauty ideologies that are racialized. Feminist...

...Introduction The aim of this paper is to critique how the print media present contemporary human resource management (HRM) issues as part of an individual class assessment. HRM is basically how human resources are managed in an organisation. The chosen topic from the list is called Employee Relations. There are three areas within this topic that will be discussed and these are; equal opportunities, discrimination and diversity. Firstly the paper will summarise a recent media article on the related area, outline the reason for choosing the article and finally, critically analyse each one independently. The paper will conclude with a brief interpretation of what I have learned while researching Employee Relations. Now let the assignment begin with a look at the first of the three media articles. Media Article 1 Summary (Appendix 1) The first of the media articles According to Hennessy (2013, Oct 11th) is about a Consultancy Association which blacklisted many Irish people in Britain from the 1970’s to the 1980’s. The company was headed by a man called Ian Kerr. He had access to information which was confidential regarding certain individuals. It was details of workers trade union history, involvement in disputes and opinions about their health and safety. Construction companies used his services and it has recently been found that many of these individuals were discriminated against because of the confidential information that was provided by the association. ...

This practice is carried out without anesthetics and antiseptic treatments, using basic tools such as knives, scissors, scalpels, pieces of glass and razor blades. Many women in these communities still believe that FGM is necessary to ensure acceptance by their communities and are unaware that the practice is not done by the entire world. This practice has attracted the attention of the WHO (World Health Organization) and UN (United Nation) who have partnered to bring a stop to this menace through research work within communities and changes in public...

...Mohd Hashim BBC 401 Principle of Management Individual Assignment Summary I already watched three videos from Forbes about woman leader in an organization. The summary of three videos that I chooses, as women continue their upward trajectory in the business world, they have yet to be fully appreciated for the unique qualities and abilities they bring to the workplace. It’s impossible to respect, value and admire great leadership if you can’t identify what makes a leader great. As a leader of some organization woman was surrounded by strong-willed, hardworking and purpose-driven women. It is through their leadership that the traditions, values and legacy of our family have been upheld. They have taught that a woman’s instincts and emotional intelligence can be off the chart. For a man it so difficult to understand about what women thinking, because what woman thinking and what man thinking is have a little different. Also in woman act and innovation, unless he has been closely influenced by the women in his life. I’ve learned that women may process things differently and in their own terms. Fortunately for me, I’ve been influenced by great women who made me appreciate their approach towards leadership. I’ve grown to understand their decision-making processes, the dynamics and subtleties of their personality and style, and other special character qualities that women possess. ...Olivia's House Summary Roceatta McCurdy BSHS/332 January 6, 2014 Dalila Bass Olivia's House Summary Many women who are within the childbearing age drink some form of alcoholic beverage and/or willingly smoke cigarettes on a daily basis. Needless to say, both alcohol and cigarettes when used excessively may easily become addictive in nature. Although, these two are legal they both have been proven to be unhealthy to a woman and her child. However, there are also women who are prescribed anti-depressants and/or amphetamines in order to maintain their mental state, as well as drugs to relieve them of pain due to a physical ailment or injury. Unfortunately, there are also a large number of women who have been rendered powerless over their compulsion to use controlled substances whether legal or illicit drugs. This need to continue drinking, smoking, and/or partaking in the use of a controlled substance has taken precedence over the needs of the welfare of their children, families, and livelihood. The good news is, since 1994, Olivia’s House has provided a place for these women and their children to regain a sense of well-being through treatment for alcohol and substance abuse. Women come from all parts of the state of Alabama to become a participant in this alcohol and substance abuse treatment facility. Olivia’s House mission statement simply implies that all women with the disease of addiction are entitled to help. Unfortunately, the use of drugs and alcohol has caused...

...freedom facing greatest threat: Google founder Summary: The co-founder of Google, Sergey Brinn, said “the principles of openness and universal access that underpinned the Internet’s creation are facing their greatest threat.” Brinn said that the threat to freedom of the Internet came from various factors including government effort to control access and communication. The attempts by the entertainment industry to stop piracy and the rise of restricting platforms such as Facebook and Apple which determines which type of software can be released are also leading to greater restrictions. Facebook and Apple’s can contribute to stifling innovation and lead to the fragmentation of the webverse. Significance: Why is there a want for a free unrestrained internet? Why is openness good? The internet is abstract in its idea, an abstract form that encompasses the entire world connecting people from across the globe. The concept is so enormous and the possibilities within leads people to believe it to be as a sort of uncharted territory where the possibilities are endless. This realm can be used for entertainment, business, black market dealings, and innovation. Restriction on the internet closes the idea of the internet itself and for many who have been so accustomed to its freedom find it unsettling. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-0414-ucsd-harassment-20120414,0,5116422.story U.S. ends probe of racial bias at UC San Diego Summary: UC San Diego officials have reached an agreement...
