on all three questions because I am a people pleaser. I want to be accommodating and encouraging to others and let them feel like they are free to speak up. I would consider myself open minded and open to listening to changes, ideas, and opinion. For example, the human resources team changed the training program at Bethesda Lutheran Services to help out the new employees and the agency. The new training program requires a lot of my time, but it will be worth the time if it is successful at preparing new employees and getting them trained quicker.

Servant Leadership Servant leadership is defined as “The Servant-Leader is a servant first… It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings one aspired to lead” (Keith). This type of leadership is most commonly found in leaders who work for non-profit organizations (Daft). The whole idea behind the servant style is a leader who wants to help others. This could be directed at the employees, the consumers, or both. A servant leader focuses on high morals and standards that benefit the people rather than just the agency.
Strengths
The strengths I possess as a leader are time management skills, organizational skills, and strong interpersonal skills. Time management skills allow me to multitask, stay motivated, and complete tasks in order of importance. My organizational skills allow me to have a tidy appearance, a system to track documentation, and to manage my schedule between meetings and tasks. My interpersonal skills allow me to interview applicants, be friendly to employees and community members, and to communicate well with

Servant Leadership Thesis

...Servant Leadership at Work An analysis of servant leadership and how it applies to my work environment: identify what servant leadership is, what the differences are, and how it applies to personalities in the work environment. Questions: What is servant leadership? How does servant leadership apply to personalities in management? What are the positive attributes of servant leadership in a manager? What values are important in servant leadership? How effective is servant leadership in an organization? Servant Leadership at Work Spears (1996) explains servant leadership as one which is based on teamwork and community; one which seeks to involve others in decision making; one which is strongly based in ethical and caring behavior; and one which is enhancing the growth of people, while at the same time improving the caring and quality of our many institutions. The term “servant-leadership” was first coined in the 1970 essay by Robert K. Greenleaf entitled, The Servant as Leader (Stone). According to Dennis and Bocarnea (2005), “servant leaders are those who serve with a focus on the followers, whereby the followers are the primary concern and the organizational concerns are peripheral. The servant leader constructs are virtues, which are defined as the good moral quality in a person, or the general quality of goodness, or moral excellence”. This, I believe, is a very good description of servant leadership. What this says is that we must apply good moral qualities...

Becoming A Servant Leader

...Development Becoming a servant leader drives distinct momentum as well as creates an advantage to another team in an organization. One of the most important steps in becoming a great leader is being able to take the time to develop one’s team member. Jaramillo, Bande, and Varela state, “Servant leaders act in the best interest of the employee and prioritize their individual growth and development” (108, 2014). When a leader has the opportunity to cultivate a new way of thinking the reward is immense, since it has to do with the passing of one’s legacy. Developing and passing traits to team members is not easy, the task of making team members be well- rounded can be time-consuming and tedious. In spite of this, the accomplishment of a servant leader is to our development over the self-interest of one’s self (Jaramillo, Bande, & Varela, pg110, 2014). Once a leader grows other aptitudes and strengths true power is able to stand out in a team....

Emerging Theories Analysis: Servant Leadership

...Emerging Leadership Theories Analysis: Servant Leadership I sometimes wonder whether Robert Greenleaf, originator of the term “servant leadership” had any idea of the extent of the impact that his seemingly oxymoronic concept would have decades after he introduced it. He was the first to recognize it as a managerial model of leadership, where the highest priority needs of the follower are being served by the servant who is the leader (Greenleaf Center, 2008). This theory is one that is exemplified by the teachings of Jesus Christ in Matthew 10:43 NIV, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.” According to Dierendonck, (2011). one of the attributes of the servant leader is humility. It is an attitude by the servant leader that acknowledges that workers may have more knowledge and experience than they may. I have found that when people are approached in humility, whether in a workplace or community setting, the results are very interesting. People begin to empathize with management and an environment of trust and value emerges. This goes hand in hand with an environment where learning occurs in a give and take manner. I worked in a department where no one, except the executives had been there longer than a few years. Although I was not a manager, I emerged as servant leader by being humble and willing to help other workers attain the knowledge...

Comprehensive Leadership

...Comprehensive Leadership “People ask me, would you rather be feared or loved, um easy, I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.”, Michael Scott, General Manager-The Office. This was the first thing I thought of when assigned a comprehensive leadership paper, and I figured something funny always draws the reader in. I want to start my paper with my leadership interview. As I mentioned in class, I wanted to get more of an honest interview with my sweet, yet beleaguered new Plant Manager. He is not only a wonderful man, but also being assigned to our facility to develop and nurture a not yet defined “culture”; he has done so with patience and class. On his first day, he spoke to all of us in our break area, stating he wanted to know who we were, what our spouse’s name was, what some of our hobbies were, and where we saw ourselves in the scheme of our corporation. What challenges I foresee my manager facing is not the newer employees in our facility, but the manufacturers and line men that have been working for thirty plus years. It has been my experience that if you can really get through to the old timers, you have won half the battle trying to change the culture because they are the influencers. Do you think leadership develops with experience? Experience is the only way I have gotten better with anything I have done. To be more specific the more I failed, the better I got at what I had set my goal to. Are there one or two experiences you look back on...

Hitler - Leadership

...At some point in our lives, we have all heard about Adolf Hitler, the Austrian born German politician and the leader of the National Socialist German Workers that led the Anti-Semitic movement in Germany in the early 1900’s. Looking back through history, people would differ in opinion when deciding if Adolf Hitler should be considered a true leader. Leadership is the action of leading a group, but in today’s society the Leadership concept has also been associated with positive, beneficial, and ethical actions. True leaders are people that others want to follow. In Hitler’s case he was initially able to connect with people through his charismatic oratory and Nazi propaganda and convince them to join him in his cause. It is unfortunate that his cause became an obsession and led Hitler to recur to constant threats and brutal actions to instill fear within his troops and avoid desertion. My impression of Hitler is that he was initially a true leader but his leadership was very poor as it relates to developing the people under his responsibility. Hitler did not focus his efforts into positive actions. He achieved many of his goals and made history. But what good does it make to be remembered by the atrocious actions he committed against the Jew community. Opposed to Hitlers practices, leaders must communicate faith to their people, not fear. Fear paralyzes people while faith moves people to action and infuses them with courage and hope. Let your people know that you believe...

A charismatic and articulate speaker, he is passionate about the topics that he speaks about – usually food and customer service. A firm believer of Servant Leadership, a contemporary leadership style to Transformational Leadership that is propounded by Robert Greenleaf and practiced daily by Weinzweig and the other managing partners of ZCoB. Using a Leadership Style survey from Don Clark’s Big Dog & Little Dog’s Performance Juxtaposition website, Ari Weinzweig’s leadership style has been determined as primarily participative. This survey assesses three types of leadership – Authoritarian (autocratic), Participative (democratic), and Delegative (free reign). The premise is that the highest score is indicative of the style of leadership that is normally used. A score of 40 or more is a strong indicator of the normal style. The lowest score is indicative of the style least used. The accepted view is that the best leaders operate out of the participative (or democratic) mode and use the other modes as needed. Leaders, who want their employees to grow, use the participative style of leadership. As they grow into their jobs. They are then gradually given more delegative authority over their jobs (Clark, D. 2004) Based on the scoring, Weinzweig primarily utilizes a Participative Style with a Delegative Style as a close second. Using an Authoritarian Style...

Leadership

...What is the first picture that comes to mind when you hear the words “good leader?” Maybe you picture William Wallace, leading his band of Scottish rebels in a war where they are heavily outnumbered against the numbers and tyranny of England. Maybe you picture Michael Jordan, pumping his fist right after he knocks down the shot against Craig Ehlo in the 1989 playoffs. Or you might even possibly see Adolf Hitler, although what he stood for will always be atrocious, he did do an incredible job of getting others to follow him. So the question is: What makes a good leader? Susie Shellenberger, the 2010 recipient of the Reed Leadership Lifetime Achievement Award, would say, “A good leader is one who doesn’t compromise integrity or character when no one is looking. A good leader maintains the same high standards in private as seen in public.” Let’s unpack what she meant when she said this. First, a good leader doesn’t compromise integrity or character no matter what. Webster gives such definitions for character as “moral excellence and firmness,” and integrity as “the quality or state of being complete or undivided.” When you put these two together, the sum is a person who is firm in his convictions and who lives under those convictions no matter what the circumstances are. A good leader does not live a two-faced lie. As its definition states, to be a person of integrity means that you are complete or undivided. You are unwavering. You do not act differently around different...

Leadership Challenges and Opportunities

...Leadership Challenges and Opportunities Rita Ludeman Grand Canyon University PSC-410 February 23, 2014 Companies today face a number of issues or challenges that can have drastic effects on the company if not handled correctly. Two of the issues are; finding the right staff and keeping up with the changing regulatory environment. According to Conner (2013) one of the biggest challenges faced by organizations today is, “finding the right staff, retaining them, and ensuring they buy into the vision of the organization” (Finding the right staff). The key is to figure out how to deal with individual personalities, what motivates each employee, and develop the management accordingly. The other problem is the changing regulations regarding environment. According to Conner (2013), “the problems to be solved are to understand the meaning of regulation in your industry, its implications for your business, and to develop the skills necessary to deal with it. Two key areas are taxes and health care” (Regulation). The hiring process within an organization is one of the most important tasks to be fulfilled. The difference between good employees and great employees can make a huge difference in the effectiveness of the company. Great employees possess a habit of success and find ways of completing their jobs where good employees see an obstacle as a dead end. Competency is a must for a great employee. They must have knowledge and understanding of the position they are being hired for...

It is a unique leadership philosophy that places the followers as the top priority. The attitudes, dimensions, characteristics, and virtues of a servant leader in the discussed publications all have shared themes. Self-interest of the servant leader is not important and does not motivate this type of leader. The motivation of the servant leader focuses on the needs of others.
